As far as I understand the issue, tiers only assume two players of equal skill level, the amount of skill is irrelevant. It's totally plausible to have shit player tiers or average player tiers, but nobody cares about those levels so only the good players are consulted when "official" tier lists are made. Of tiers mattering at any other than top level, I think that that one should not follow tier lists blindly and let them dictate their choice of character on the level of beginner to intermediate, it's after that when character matchups and weaknesses come into play, however they still are an valid ranking of characters and shouldn't be totally disregarded, but more like using them as an indicator, I still think it's much more important to just find the character you like playing than considering who is strong.

Aoi - 43p, as already said, 13f mid goes under highs causes stagger on crouch and its SABAKI PROOF...it almost completely replaces 2p for Aoi

Akira- 3p+k , slow yes...but its a true low that leaves you at +7 on normal hit, most lows leave you at negative or very low positive at best.

Kage - K+G , (Furikakato Otoshi) very versatile meaty, plus 1 on guard +4 from max distance which makes a mistimed meaty into a good situation, good range, deceptively fast even at 22f. Great backdash launcher

It's a worse version of Pai's 46K+G so surely can't make the cut.

Just to clarify, the first one, Aoi 43 p+k is the move I actually think is the best in the game.. the other two are simply honorable mentions, Furikakato Otoshi is my personal favorite...

Kage is a ninja , Pai is a daddy's girl.. there is no comparison :p

Pai's is better on paper, but she cant use her 46k+g as well as Kage can use his k+g.

Its a close call, but I'd take Kage's over Pai's. In any case (hit or guard), I think Kage's post-meaty options are better than hers.

Pai doesn't have much of an OTG game, so she has a tough time encouraging opponents to tech.

Lion was actually ranked the lowest in the tierlist for VF5 vanilla but the reason was solely based on his damage output. For the most part I believe that there are some areas of a tierlist in fighting games (Virtua Fighter especially) which are purely subjective. A lot of Japanese top players actually have their own opinions of what the tierlist is and they aren't shy to tell you what they believe if you were to ask them.

    1. Akira [6][P][+][K][+][G] Guard break. Beats guard/fuzzy and doesn't get blown up by reverse-nitaku launch. Considerably faster than everyone else's GB.
    2. Jacky [6_][K] Fast, half circ, plus on guard, launch on hit and makes all his combos dumb.
    3. Taka [4][P][+][K][P] Can make a sandwich after the first hit and still have time to check it for the launch. 16f so great nitaku launcher, also works on crouch hit, also works on NORMAL HIT. Also works if only the 2nd hit connects....
    4. Akira [6][6][6][P] There's no reason for this to be -5 on guard. Also knocks down on nh unlike many chars nitaku launcher.

Cant decide between a lot of things after those 4.

Aoi is a mindless abare machine, no need to defend, just use your get out of jail free move- tenchi, oh wait, your opponent has correctly decided to limit his responses to the 3 moves that are tenchi/sabaki proof, well no problem, now just reverse mid(for kage) or high for most others(roundhouse) or better yet, now that they MUST use only sabaki proof moves you can just abare out with p or 2p....arrrggghhh

and her sundome/cancel /delay string mixups work wonders online

If i used Aoi I might not hate her as much, but she is just full of powerful tools, BT throw, full circ low that becomes un-punishable with her tenchi, 2 K+G~(guarded)~into tenchi~8 or 2 (tenchi evade) evades the tenchi proof follow up unless you have the full circ roundhouse (i dont) and lets not forget she can reverse literally every move in the game , literally. There are situations she can find herself in (like BT) where she can no longer reverse everything, but there is no single move in the game that can not be reversed...and her window for reverse is significantly longer that akira's.

Sorry, Aoi rant over ...for now...

...O_O wow someone had one too many badmatch ups with aoi
i could write an essay defending her but.. we all have characters we dislike mine is lion yours is aoi and i'm okay with that........ i think

also no aoi players barely use the high reversal the mid reversal is the one i spam

I'll just leave you with this
you should have took a chance to think things over before implying that all aoi players play their character mindlessly. If all these problems were as as bad as you say aoi wouldn't be c tier im sorry to resort to the tier list but i really don't feel like writing an essay before i got back to school

Some people that shall remain shameless have suggested that dealing with Aoi's Tenchi is as simple as K+G (they're refering to the full circ high that a bunch of characters have) my point is this is at best a 50/50 cuz aoi can just snatch that full circ high out of the air... but yes in general, mid reversal is the far more popular, since people have to protect against the abare 2p.

please don't go calling aoi defenders shameless it makes you look like an asshole which you aren't
look you obviously just don't know how to deal with aoi
i suggest you try to fix this by asking for help or pinpointing the problem before you take out frustration online
also yes aois tenchi isnt just stopped by a simple k+g
but think of all the other options bodycheck lows double handed double feet shoulder
and throws hell kage can tft her lightweight ass for hella damage

Anytime Aoi goes for any sort of reversal, it's best to try to skew this risk/reward of her doing so into your favor. In most matchups, these risk/rewards are generally not good for her.

Try going into Training mode, setting Aoi to do a set string into yin yang or reversal, and try to find the best way to punish her for doing so. Even better, if you can find an option that covers more than one of the reversal/inashis Aoi uses, abuse these.

Aoi has a fairly low damage output, and D- tier punishers. When combined with her weight class, Aoi is a risky bitch.

My relection on tier lists: Every character has ceiling of potential in any given situation. Characters that can nab solid damage, limit the opponents options, or are just too safe; they're the best.

    EDIT: Aoi cancels are stupid.
