i just recently got the game too. I would like to make a gripe about the text size. Not just in this game, but most new games seem to be going with smaller and smaller and smaller text. A lot of the newer games i can't hardly read the text on and i have a pretty good sized TV. Not everyone has a 48 inch high def TV, and game makers don't really take that into consideration. (lol, i named my guy Oklahoma Buffaio on accident, and cause the l and i look so much alike on a non-high def TV i didn't notice til like 3 days later).

quick question, are u saying u did choke out mir, or do u mean your stats are just as good and ur subs still don't work as good?

The small text thing is definitely a continuing trend.... its really bad on capcom games like Dead Rising(smallest text ever), Lost Planet, and even on newer ones like Bionic Commando.

This is seconded! Several games are basically unreadable on my old CRT TV. Specifically UFC2009. SF4 text is readable only on my monitor. I dont understand why developers have to make small text even WITH the high resolution, because the extra space isnt used for anything at all in these games. Theres just eeny teeny tiny text and huge tracts of empty space around it.

I choked out Mir, my submission stats are almost as good as his. I suppose there are thresholds below which it shouldnt even be attempted. Also gassing out the character propably has huge effect on the stats.

Let me clarify: I guess I started noticing how simple it was to choke out someone using lvl 3 BJJ. But even with the correct amount of stats-dependency, more than that I felt that it was the case of the game simply throwing dice whether I succeed or not, with a little effort on my part.. Ultimately, I think this is the case with flash KOs as well. Game throws dice and decides whether you were awarded with a KO or not. (I dont know if the submission difficulty has already been adjusted without me noticing it though)

And I noticed how little tactics or skill was required for me to get into that position too.

    1. Opponent takes me down -> hold their head down -> rubber guard -> triangle choke

    2. Single collar clinch -> pull back to guard -> rubber guard -> triangle choke

    3. I takedown opponent -> Either I proceed to mount to pound them or if they reverse me -> pull their head down -> rubber guard -> triangle choke.

Im thinking that in several cases it was the case of opponent not knowing how to rotate right stick.. But in case of for instance Brock Lesnar, he is definitely more vulnerable to subs.

The striking/standup in this game is OK... IMO where this game really shines is the ground action. Im loving rubber guard..Triangle choke for the win!

I have a question about UFC online mode. Is your record kept on a per created fighter basis? or is it like vf5 and ur record is just kept for your profile as a whole?

i have another question. How many points are u guys usually getting on ur sparring trainings? And i have never rocked my sparring partner, any tips?

P.S. Here is a site i googled on how to build a high rated fighter:
    http://www.gamershell.com/faqs/ufc2009undisputedfaqstrategyguide/1.0/?gr_i_ni

I've read it and applied a little bit. At about fight 6 i started just doing the speed, cardio, strength until i got them high, now only do sparring...but never got more than 76 points. never 144 for sure

What difficulty are you on? most if not all of the people with fighters rated over 95 and so forth are playing on easy. The highest I was able to get on experienced was 85.

    Online record per profile.

I play easy. Since careers purpose is to create a custom fighter for versus, theres no point in playing on high difficulty since if affects stats.

If you come across 144 average rating characters in online, those are cheat characters. You can tell if they have 0-0 MMA record. Theres a glitch that allows spending of basically infinite amount of points to skills in CAF, but they cant play career with them or stats would be reset.

i meant 144pts from a sparring session to allocate to your stats. Anyhow, recently i've been blowing it up and getting 144 every training. The trick is kinda gay, but like u said, career is to create a fighter. So u lose intentionally, then fight the lowest ranked opponent u can, and lose and repeat. Why? Because the sparring partner is supposed to mirror your next opponent and therefore is really really weak. I get in sparring, muy thai clinch, Knee knee knee, til he is rocked. Then jump in his gaurd and mount. Punch until rocked, then body punch til recovers, then punch until rocked and do submission. Wa-la. 144+ pts (149 was my highest) and my guy is now sitting at a 98 overall. I think my record is 28 and 6, but that's with 4 or 5 intentional losses. Well, i don't know how many losses cause i can't read the damn text on my tv [IMG]

I didnt do that. Although I avoided the strongest fighters when I thought I wouldnt be up for it. I finished career with 91 overall.

Yep, I averaged between 44-60 points during sparring sessions. No intentional losses. I ended up 33-6 (something like that)
and my guy was 90 overall. I level 3 on Muay Thai and Judo
and can submit anybody in the game. I never try to submit early in the match. I use the striking and the kicking game to bring their stamina and health lower than mine. Then I start the ground game. [IMG] I still haven't played the game on the highest possible difficulty yet. Once I'm finished with the highest possible difficulty, then I should be ready to go online and see what I can learn there [IMG]

The only thing that really sux about retiring, is that you cannot go back and change hair styles, knee, or ankle equipment.

I can understand why they might not want you to change body types, But if I want to get rid of my mohawk WTF [IMG]

Haha. I have a mohawk, thanks for letting me know, i've been lazy and never changed out of my default white gear. Well, also the text is so small that i didn't bother to try and read who my sponsors were, or what it prompted me to do at the different option screens. Honestly, because of the small unreadable text, i've completely skipped the customization/sponorship part of the game. I've never read an email on it, i don't read the pre or post fight memos....etc. Hopefully this is something future games could address

The text isnt THAT small man, its definately readable. Either you have a very small tv or bad eyesight.

My TV is 32". Its not the size, its the resolution. I noticed that recent update made PSN shop use the same nearly unreadable small font. Its readable, but only barely. I bet its been some time since you have played on CRT TVs.

If you did'nt do the e-mail thing, customization thing or sponsor thing, you missed out on about 1/4 of training mode [IMG] Although it wasn't necessary it did add to the immersion!
and you can design some pretty slick looking trunks with Sponsor patches. After U retire you can change trunks and create new designs. Just no hair style changes, body type changes, knee or ankle support changes.

You are right. They make that text with the assumption that game is connected to at 720p. SDTV which I think is 640x480 res is gonna treat that text real funky. some SDTV it might be small and readable, others it my be small and fuzzy (unreadable).

Dude, you need to get to Walmarts, Bestbuy or somewhere and pick up a HDTV , UFC 2009 and VF5 look like completely different games on HD. Not exaggerating. I've seen them both on SDTV and you're missing a lot. Really!

And I think Fight Night Round 4 can take advantage of 1080p. So if you get that on SDTV its really gonna suck. [IMG]

Nah, I have a small shitty SDTV and an old CRT monitor that I use when the woman is watching TV.

The text size is readable for me in both Fight night and UFC 2009, the only game I remember having troubles with the text size is Dead Rising.

The people having troubles should either get to the opticians or buy an HDTV [IMG]
