I'm liking this game a lot. I went online 3 times and got beat down 3 times, I gotta get better.

There's a ton of strategy to this game. One guy just destroyed me cause I wasn't defending against his take-downs, another guy knocked me out cold with a head kick. I thought it may have been a flash knockout but he hit me really cleanly in the side of my head. After the match you can see how much damage was done and my head had taken 100% damage so the KO was definitely legit.

I'm not good at all right now but I'm inspired to put some work in and get better.

    Bye bye SF4...

Yea, I made the same mistake once /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif which led to getting KTFO
30 seconds into the first round /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif I have taken my created fighter into exhibition and he hasn't retired from career mode yet, but his stats are so low compared to the regular fighters, that every round required a miracle for me to survive and I can only win in easy mode and if I spam the power moves. So even if you could take your fighter online you probably wouldn't want to
do so until he's at least level 3 in all of his signature moves.

Totally awesome game, however the card girls in Fight Night are
    better /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

I'm waaaay to green to go online. I wouldn't want to waste my opponents time /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif How was the lobby? How was the lag?
I'm assuming that you can't save replays of online matches either
is that correct /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cry.gif Have a lot of people went online so soon? I at least have got to get might fighter into the top 3 b4
I think I know enough mechanics to go online /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

The lobby is just a list with a connection speed indicator, plenty of green bars.

One thing that is not good that they're gonna have to patch is it lets you try to join a game that someone else is also trying to join so as it's loading it suddenly says, "This game session is no longer available." That is annoying.

My skills are bad enough that people can just spam shit on me and I don't know what to do. I kinda started to realize at the end but it was too late.

I think the standing reversals are gonna be huge. Let's say the dude you're fighting is just throwing slow, strong attacks to your head, you've gotta tap up on RS to bust out the single leg take-down and work from the top. I think the first step to learning ANY fighter is learning how to defend and punish spam tactics. <- I have not reached this point... (that's good cause I have relatively little play time.)

If someone keeps shooting in on you, you have to remember to sprawl by holding back on RS. One dude just whooped me with Kenny Ken-Flo Florian by taking me down and just going for a submission right away. I broke the first few but he did end up getting me. So... here's a question for you guys:

How/when do you decide whether to try to "brute force" break out of a submission by mashing buttons and when do you try a "technique" break by spinning the right stick???

Does it depend on who you're using and their ground fighting skills?

The other thing that just smashed my face was an Anderson Silva guy getting me into the Muay Thai clinch. He just brutalized me by the time I broke his hold, but my guy was just totally worn out by the time I did.

My favorite thing that happened last night was mounting someone and just pounding on them until the ref stopped the fight, it's just awesome!

There's sooo much left me to learn though... I can't wait to get back home and play more!

I want to work on my Michael Bisping some more /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I'm like 15 and 3 online, most wins by submission, and most of the rest by ground and pound.

I think some people are taking the "Real men keep it standing" mentality online, and I'm there to feed on them.

    Fox love ground!

    Edit:

Yeah Gerns, if I'm playing someone with high sub offense I go for a technical escape, and I'm playing a high strength character I go for brute force.

However, in desperate situations, brute force is better because I think it's higher percentage. You just don't tend to end up in a good position from them, as opposed to tech escapes.

If anyone online whines about you going to the ground with them, tell them to shut the game off and go buy a boxing game. Retards.

Ya know what this game really needs? Ducking. If someone is throwing a slow-ass leg kick at me, I don't much care for the fact that all I can do is block or reverse it. If I could duck it, I'd at least feel like a hugely powerful move was hugely punishable. I've been KOed a few times trying to backstep out of a head kick only to have it connect even more cleanly than if I had stayed in the pocket throwing jabs like a rabid badger. Or at least let headkicking throw your balance off. I think a well placed push kick during a head kick counter should result in a knock down. I've seen flat sweeps do it, but nothing else.

Still loving the game. My custom fighter is the current middleweight champion, and I'm about to go online for the first time and try it out.

Oh, I know. I'd love to get a lucky slip of a headkick into a takedown or something, but eh, can't have 'em all.

And yeah, I don't give 'em mercy online. I'm sure I've been called a faggot a few times, but I don't care. It's just that its way easier to deal with spammers when you've got 'em on the ground.

Undisputed's ground game is the perfect anti-masher weapon.

edit: Also, one thing that's missing that I wish was in it? Wall clinching. A lot of matches are spent working the clinch along the cage. Hell, I feel like the cage should have more of a factor in matches, as strategies revolve around pushing a guy's head on the cage to block his hips.

Eh, the wall clench thing I understand. A proper wall clench works by the fighter on the outside holding on to the cage, but thats illegal now. Its kinda like all NHL games back in the day not having fighting, because its technically against the rules and strongly discouraged. I agree that you should be able to use the cage as extra leverage in a clench though. We can probably find a laundry list of things we'd like to see improved in this game for the sequel.

Something I'd like improved via a patch: the matchmaking. I think Gernburgs already hit on this point but the online system is a little obtuse. If I search for a custom match, I can find plenty (read: hundreds) of matches with good ping, but selecting one of them almost always results in "cannot join match" for whatever reason. Then the game goes to ANOTHER loading screen, and kicks me back to the player match options screen. Shouldn't it shoot me right back to the opponent list, after a quick refresh?

I just KTFO'ed some kid online with "The Spider" Sylva. I managed to hit him with a flying knee from probing range while he was throwing random punches. Counter-hitting-flying-knee after you've taken 10 headkicks already? KTFO! Then he whines at me like "oh thats bullshit! so thats all you gotta do with anderson sylva? flying knees?"

Um... not exactly. But I'd recommend trying to defend against flying knees. Ya know, whenever possible /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

How do you stop the Superman punch SPAM???

The flash knockouts/superman spam kinda sucks hard...

It does damage eve when you block it... After playing a few more games online I can see some serious issues.

I'm gonna stick with it but there's some moves I'm really not feeling already.

Ducking Hook (Boxing)+ Superman Punch (Kickboxing) = KTFORAGEQUIT

I just take them down. Right now I'm very one-dimensional in how I play the game, I'm gonna try to play more stand up fighters so I get better at the up game.

Thanks for the reply. I actually started to figure out how to stop it, I fully agree it's [BOXING] LB+punch... The way the hook ducks, if timed properly, lands a hard-ass shot to the face if they try to Superman punch.

I figured out a little more about the game through like 4 hours of play last night. I started trying to play more to my characters strengths (I've been using Bisping almost exclusively... Don't know why, I just think he's a cool dude /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif ) I pulled off 6 wins in a row after trying to ground and pound a lot more (mount position = severe facial damage!) and use my transitions better.

The interesting/different thing about Bisping is he does not have any throws; he can only drop down into guard. From there, it's all about his BJJ style and using Rubber Guard to flip over and gain the top position. I've had a lot of luck with the Rubber Guard, it's a great move in this game. Without it, I don't know of any other way to mount any real offense from the guard position.

Ranging is so important, like most fighting games. You have to know the range of your punches really well to exploit reach advantages and land your shots more squarely. Ducking hook to the very tip of their chin can drop them right there.

On the ground, I'm trying to remember to block transitions more and learn the timing of the reversals/sweeps. After winning 6 in a row I ran into a guy who had ran off 11 in a row and we mixed it up pretty freaking nicely.

First match was Forrest Griffin vs Michael Bisping. I manged to do some nice work standing up and when we went to the ground I ended up mounting him for the TKO. He then requested a rematch (a feature I did not know about until he did it. Just press start after the match, at the stats screen, and choose request rematch from the menu.)

He then brought Rampage and pounded me out like 3-4 times in a row and I just went to bed... Good game but I gotta figure out how to defend better on the ground. It was too easy for his Rampage to pound me out.

    More to come tonight though.

Outfxd - Let's get some serious games in dude!

Another quick question on the sub game. Say I have someone in an armbar and they begin to defend, can I switch to a triangle...or visa-versa...can I go from a triangle to armbar, or triangle-armbar?

I've been able to luckily side step (if you can call it that) superman punch several times on the PS3 quick tap of L2 + analog stick in appropriate direction. I'm finding that fighting
at an angle just offset from the opponent very effective, I have a little ground game but my mix in Muay Thai + Judo, So I do a lot of damage in the Muay Thai clinch and the running reverse kick combined with judo take down (very effective).

I noticed yesterday somebody already had over 200 wins online.
the game had not even been out 24 hrs. Whoever that was had to
totally skip single player /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif create-a-fighter /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif build-your-gym /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif and go straight to submissions on line /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cry.gif

I'm diggin the mini camps, photo ops, I just got my gym updated from the mats to a nice cage , finally go my Judo to Level 2
and Muay Thai to Level 2. The sponsor feature is a trip too. At first I didin't realize that the sponsors had level too. Opened up some of the vids from the classic fights. Some crazy stuff U can open up. I guess I'll get online after I got both striking and grappling to level 3 and get my transitions a little more
consistent. Right now all of my transitions are hit-or-miss.

The canned comobos are also pretty good the ones that are listed
right under the action list, if I can pull those off in a real match my opponent is going to find me very problematic /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Unfortunately, switching subs didn't make it in. Probably too complicated this time out. I wish, I'd love to switch from a triangle to an omoplata sweep.

Come to think of it, I don't think anyone actually uses omoplatas for the submissions in this game, just the sweep. Then again, it might be so low percentage they just did away with it for now.

That stinks. I know people who sub with it...although I use it to get to the back usually or set up a guillotine choke.

    Outfoxd Well-Known Member

Yeah. it sucks. I actually got one of the newer guys with it last week as he powered out of my triangle attempt.

Who knows, maybe next edition will have counter sub-attempts against brute force escapes.

  20. Shadowdean

    Shadowdean Well-Known Member

Yeah. Brute force escapes usually lead you open to a counter. If you brute force your way out of an armbar, it is easy to sweep the person, or crank on the armbar.
