While the demo show cases a few features of the game, it really doesn't give you a true picture of what the possibilities are in any given situation, because the move sets available to the demo characters are not representative of those that are available through CAF, or in considering the complete fighting roster.

Also the help that is given in the demo, doesn't get you where you need to go on things like transitions, reversals, etc.

And when you take to ppl in real life that don't know what they
R doing and put them into a clinch transition scenario, they are likely to be sloppy too [IMG]

You've jumped to several incorrect conclusions based on a very small subset of the product.

Lots of players of other fighters (e.g Tekken, SF, DOA,etc)
jump to outrageous conclusions about Virtua Fighter when they pick it up and just mess around with it for a while. But we all know VF is the best fighting game on the planet right?

This UFC game is far deeper than initial impressions. It is deceptively deep.

The move lists available to a fighter, + fighter attributes, + cardio, strength, and speed attributes + given situtation UR in + your knowledge of transitions, submissions, takedowns, grappling, and striking are only 50% determiners in what the outcome will be in any situation. The other 50% is these same things from your opponent's point of view.

Yea dude, you jumped to the wrong conclusions.

Not that the game doesn't have problems, they're just not the ones you listed [IMG]

They fucked up the ground game.

A lack of sweeps from the back unless someone has rubber guard for BJJ.

Auto transition blocking and making it a lot easier to reverse means it's too risky to transition against someone good, but your best bet is to pound the other guy until he moves and reverse all the way to mount.

I don't know if I agree with the subs because the majority of my wins online so far have been subs.

Also, everyone's ground game is almost the same. Fucking Kimbo could reverse a black belt in BJJ as long as you flick the stick in time.

It feels like striking improved a hell of a lot while the ground game devolved.

    Not a good comparison IMO...

Unfortunately, this game remains a "sports game" and hasn't evolved into a "fighting game", that's the problem...

Good. I enjoy a good sports fighting game. Fight NIght used to be it, and now it's UFC. I'm someone will thing of another, but to me, if not for these, then it's an empty genre. And why should UFC attempt to be a fighting game (where it would not excell) instead of a sports game where it is unique and (for now) by itself in the genre. Sorta.

Wait, so sweeping is only available for bjj guys? What sweeps are available? Elevator, scissor, butterfly, etc?

Sweeping isn't available, really. It's only for the guys who have rubber guard, so far as I know, likely just the omoplata and flower sweeps from rubber.

Some guys can take butterfly guard but essentially sit flat on their back and can only use it to go for a triangle or push off to get to open guard, so hell if I know what the point is.

Whoever they consulted with for this game apparently didn't tell them that one of the most common sweeps (mountain climber) is from freaking regular guard. ><

Really, the best option is playing someone with an Omoplata from guard, using that sub, then letting go. You stand up for free.

So it's a wannabe fighting game without the depth of a fighting game. Yay... [IMG]

How could the game suffer by being deeper??? You couldn't capitalize on as many half-gamer scrubs who would give up after 5 minutes?

I'm just saying, any 'sports fighting game' would be better off as a fighting game. Otherwise it's a scrub fest. Let me see, Superman punch, Superman punch, Superman punch, is he knocked out yet? No? Superman punch, Superman punch... That's better.

...And how is DM P+K x 1000 any different to Superman punch x 1000?

Also, i've yet to play much of these UFC games but im betting they work as a competitive fighter just as well if not better than fighting games like MK or DoA.

You're entitled to your opinion. I was just stating that Undisputed will never abandon the fighting/sports hybrid strategy it utilizes now. At least, not while I'm designing it.

All games alienate people based on the design decisions they make. You play Virtua Fighter, you should already know this. [IMG]
