there was a period when Zeng was really strong. Were you in Singapore during the international VF3 competition where they were selecting the Singapore representative? It was a really big event as I guess it was the one and only sega sponsored event in Singapore where the winner will fly to Japan and compete.

During the time, there were a LOT of VF players and everyone was training pretty hard. And it was during that time Zengzi was really good. Too bad he lost in the finals to the Aoi.

I played him many, many times during the TB era and right up to the year before VF4 came out.

P.S. Yup, the period you described was for Maximum Battle. I signed up at Orchard Emerald, but they didn't notify to me that the tournament time had been moved because they thought I was Japanese, and thus ineligible. WTF!??!!?

I defeated the Jeffry champion there three times in a row with my Wolf. And I wasn't very good then, either. Sigh. Memory of that day still pisses me off.

Aiyah, please read my post properly lah. I did not say untouchable, I said 'ALMOST' untouchable OK.

To many of the mid-level/top players here, Zeng was damn good at that time, but to 'godly' players like yourself I know it's no big deal lah.

Perhaps if you were in the VF3 MB finals, you could beat Zeng 3 times in a roll with your wolf too, yah?

    Summers: I think he's in Korea working/studying!

virtua_kage_2: Ahh, who are you again? Zeng Zi knows me, so where ever he is he knows I'm not dissing him. But let's not exaggerate OK? Zeng Zi is not the Ryan Hart equivalent in Singapore. He doesn't dominate the scene here like Ryan does in the U.K.; he doesn't get double digit wins every time he inserts a coin. That said, Zeng Zi was definitely a top-tier player in Singapore VF3....but I don't think anyone is contesting that.

    Sheesh...this is just plain stupidity.

Maybe I did not use the most appropriate of words. But when I said Zeng dominated VF3 in Singapore, anyone with a clear mellow mind knows I don't literally meant he was indisputably untouchable or was he the God of VF3.

Oh yeah, allow me to quote this :

"When someone tells you to Xerox something, it doesn't necessarily mean to go use a Xerox machine....it just means to photocopy something. Get my meaning?"

    Familiar?

Zeng knows you...and your point being? Geesh, as though I care.

Ahh..who am I? Well, I am definitely not the "usual snotball bratty ass-who?".

    And that's another quote.

Edit : This is in reply to Ice-9 (I clicked on the wrong post).

OK forget what I've said earlier.

Just realised that you are part of the Team Hydra together with IMF and Blonde_One.

Just concentrate and kick some asses there and hope you play better than you could brag.

    Good luck guys!

ZENG was that good? ... ouch, last time i played him, he did'nt even attempt to use lau.. but i would'nt say he's almost untouchable now, guess i'll take your word for it... also to be anywhere near a Ryan equivelant, you'd also have to be as good as Odu Moudu (who is almost or probably as good as Ryan Hart), lol, tood bad he does'nt get as much recognition.. but he sure is an obstical.

but hey, power to ZENG too, he's a class player.. /versus/images/icons/laugh.gif

The winner of that tournament went to Japan for work or something. I think he is in Japan now. He was not that strong during that time, around my standard.

Seriously, ice-9, I think Zeng WAS very strong during the maximum battle. I remember the day b4 the final competition (I won the AMK prelims /versus/images/icons/smile.gif ), I lost like 10+ times in a row to his lau. Hey I was pretty good and was like almost on par with anyone during that time. Maybe he doesn't really dominate the VF3 scene but he was the best VF3 player during that time, IMHO, as in he has like 70+ win percentages against almost everyone.

But all this discussion is based on stuff like years ago... I have never seen Zeng for a long time. and the last I heard is that he seldom play VF4 cuz he is far away from london or something.

No problem--I mentioned the Zeng Zi knowing me thing to clarify to people that I'm not trying to diss someone whom I don't really know. We've played each other a lot, and he's sparred with me at home as well.

Basically, I didn't want you to get defensive on the premise that I was just trying to tear down a stranger's reputation, because I'm not.

What I am trying to downplay is a perception that Zeng Zi is far and away the best that Singapore has to offer, because I don't think that's necessarily true. For example, Leonard (the Aoi champion) may be a machi player, but there's no doubt he was a strong competitor.

C'mon, you don't win major tournaments by being average. Napoleon, for example...doesn't look impressive in normal play, and his winning percentage is an earthly 70-something%. Yet this guy makes deep runs in tournaments.

Finally, I asked who you were so that I could maybe get a better perspective where you're coming from.

Alan: Zeng Zi does play VF4 and played quite a lot when he was back here for the summer. He is still a strong player and top tier, but I don't think he's necessarily better than Danny, Wilson, Zhifeng, etc.
