Al, wtf are you talking about movie? Can you post a direct link to an evo movie?
Or did you just mean famitsu's usual movie section, with devil may cry 2 and all that junk?

Does anyone else think that Goh looks like a vampire.

    Well, the link doesn't work.

I like the new look. It seems that AM2 have upped the style of the series which is something I believe they touched upon with the first version of VF4 but not to this extent. One of the things I've always thought Tekken had over VF was glitz, everything else within VF is superb, now finally VF can look "cool" too. Shallow I know But as I said everything else is to my taste.

Hopefully this quest/mission mode will go some way to fleshing out the characters and story. The alternative looks are so appealing, especially Sarah and Akira. With regard to the inevitable console conversion I'd be happy with the Xbox. The PS2 has had it's shot and while it was very admirable the Xbox can reproduce everything without cutting back and more from both a visual and mechanic perspective. If Microsoft can land the license then they'll have their Soul Calibur. I'm already saving my pennies for Panzer Dragoon Orta so this would be a great load of icing on my cake.

I just want to clarify this talk of techniques having a new look to them. Does this mean that characters now play completely different then before? Does a dashing elbow still look like a dashing elbow? Changing the commands of moves isn't a real problem as long as they retain their properties but new animation is another thing altogether. I'm really excited.

I just don't understand gaming websites these days. "We go to not-so private show, record a movie of a game we own no copyright to -- but you gotta pay to see it.". And the game companies don't seem to stop them. I see if it's an exclusive they paid for -- but that was a share holders meeting for christs sake.

Anyways, as for the moves looking 'different'. The game is supposedly played the same, except for the "Ver. D" move tweaks. It just looks different -- maybe they recaptured some motions or something... I don't know. That's just what they're saying. /versus/images/icons/smile.gif

In regard to a console conversion, at this point I actually have my doubts. It seems like Evolution is being geared more and more towards the use of VF.net, as the Mission and Quest mode seem mostly created for the sake of getting items and other fun stuff. Personally I think they're an OK addition, just as long as the main game itself doesn't suffer any.

That being said though, I think if a conversion was in the cards, X-Box would be the first logical choice. But since they've got programming libraries ready to go for the PS2 and GC, it's anyone's guess.
I'm going for an XB anyways... with JSRF, Gun Valkyrie, Spikeout, and Panzer on it, it's a definite buy just for the Sega stuff.

    Crosspost: VF4evo news

All of this is from a short clip I dled.
    ---------------------
...naturally I get it when I'm not anywhere near the PC that houses my FTP server, but have a look there later on anyway /versus/images/icons/wink.gif

I may also clean the movie up with tmpgenc or something, it's REALLY dark.
Edit: cleaned up. It helps a lot to be able to see things.

    New junk:
Backgrounds get the pallette swap treatment.
Akira: I think I'm seeing bamboo in the BG through the windows, like VF3. Maybe wrong. The streaming-sunlight effect looks stronger than the daylight seen in the current version.
Kage: Is at night. Should be nice.
Jacky: The tiny patch of sky visible here looks like it has clouds, like overcast late day. Helicopters and overall feel seems the same.
    Sarah: Can't spot anything new.
Wolf: Where the overall theme color of the stage was blue/green before, it is now light brown.
Jeff: Sunset, pretty yellowish/orange clouds in the BG.
    Pai: Not shown.
Lau: Rainy, with a nice grey cloud background and a grey haze over everything. Hard to say if it's actually RAINING or not during the fight, but I suspect it is.
Shun: No immediately noticeable difference. Too daaaark.
Lion: Hard to see with all the camera whirling, but I think everything outside the ring is different. I'm seeing a tall square gothic castle with towers on each corner, a tree with no leaves, and some snowy hills with evergreens.
    Aoi: Dunno.
Lei Fei: It's now midday and sunny. Rather than being too yellow, it's a generic blue sky. It seems like these stages should have been reversed... the blue sky as the 'normal' VF4 stage and the yellow tinted version as the Evo.
Vanessa: Hardly shown. I can see the sky is pale and cloudy, not utterly dark.

New intro CG - Lion does eddie gordo-like handstand twirls. Akira does the usual elbow posing stuff. Shun di, I kid you not, breakdances with lots of leg flares or whatever they're called. Kage does hoppy crescents and is generally whirly. Sarah does a crescent kick and a bit of FL stuff, including the FL reversal, then adopts a JKD fighting stance.

    New moves!
Akira: I hate to see it, but I think I'm seeing a canned sgpm --> DE combo. Definitely some sort of 2 hitter ending in DE. We also have a new 2 hitter shown after a shrm - A standing knee (looks just like the second hit of the AS3) followed by an elbow drop (looks like jeff's b+P). The elbow drop slams during the float.
Also, the knee is shown hitting independently, and it floats. Another new attack: Akira sort of ducks in close and delivers a body blow, then quickly skips back. This is shown baiting lei fei into a reaction and then akira crouch dashes into that sgpm-DE combo. Think of the second hit of akira's PP, but a rushing attack.

Jacky: some sort of canned punch/elbow combo, it reminds me of d/f+PPP but the final hit is an elbow strike that causes the same flipover animation. Pounce.
Jacky is also shown in the midst of the 'new moves showcase' doing a very generic knee, P, shot knee, kickflip combo.

Aoi: LOL! bodycheck reversal! She sort of looks like she's blocking the bodycheck, then she plants a quick knee in his back and proceeds to flip him over her shoulder, same animation as the D/F+P hit-throw. It's hard to see, but I swear I also see akira's b,f+PK getting reversed. Same over-the-shoulder flip animation. Then we have a reversal of akira's QCB+P. You'll never guess what the animation is. It looks like aoi has been made capable of reversing any attack, including 2-handers.

Lei: is shown doing something that looks a little like kage's ..??? .. the move where he steps forward and does a horizontal chop, it pushes you back far if it hits. It also looks a lot like ling in tekken 3 doing b+1 (I think). He sort of holds his hand out for a half second in a deflection pose.

Wolf: Face down, head towards pickup is shown going smoothly into backdrop (his back throw). The damage is maybe 30 points. This is after a f,d+K mc. I guess a nice alternative to pouncing.

Pai: A forward flip attack with both legs that looks similar to f+K+G (maybe a new animation for the old move?) ... she is left backturned. From the backturned position she does the same attack twice, it doesn't turn her towards. It's a sort of half turning slap to the belly. Looks a little like Tk3 ling's d/f+1. Also seen after this move is a hooking TT kick that's very similar to ling's back turned 4, and also scrapes the opponent off the floor in a situation where the flip attack knocked down. Also of note is pai interrupts lei fei's arrow punch with something that looks like u/b+K, but has a different, quicker animation. Sort of a grounded version of Kage's d/f+K+G.

Lau: A violent uppercut, followed by his b+P elbow drop.

Sarah: a kick to the shin with one foot followed by a typical FL n+K. Maybe a new way to get into stance quickly.

Nothing else in the way of new moves to report. Sadly for vanessa players, she's shown in the midst of all this new stuff doing a generic lightning elbow -->PPK combo.

    New modes:
    Quest and 'scramble'.

Quest looks like you're presented with a specific challenge for beating your opponent, and as a reward, you get a treasure chest. It's almost like the same system you use to acquire the weird treasures now, except the game tells you the condition prior to the match, and the condition is shown at the bottom left or right corner during the bout. Having no japanese, all I can see in one mission is: KO 2(something).. probably win two rounds? Another has "50" in it. Maybe something about 50 pts of damage, or guarding/hitting 50 times successfully.

Scramble is less clear. You get a "title match" screen before the fight, like you would if you were on the verge of promotion/demotion. Then on the bottom right corner of the screen is a bunch of text during the match. After successfully completing the mission, there's more title match kanji with a picture of a glowing treasure chest and the words "player 2". So I guess pl.2 won an item, yaaay!

    The possible Sad News:
There's a section of the demo that says "new challengers" and during this you see blurred fighting in the background while "Challenger Comes" is in the foreground. To make matters worse the blurred BG is darkened.
I remember saying a while ago "ahhh they'll never make new characters." Well they made new characters, but it looks like my suspicions about recycling may have been correct.
The hooded character does aoi's 3/4 circle throw.. ending with a stomp on the face. I also see one of shun's b,f+P strikes followed by lei fei's knee, then lei fei's low kick. I see a new-ish generic shoulder slam throw. Then we have the kickboxer holding wolf and doing repeated knees to the groin. His ground attack is jacky's soccer kick. He does jacky's b,f+K+G without the wiggle animation at the end. In his alternate outfit, bare skin + boxer shorts, he does kage's helix (or maybe it's vanessa's lightning elbow) into a canned kick that looks like kage's jumonji K.
In short, I can't see anything new. I hope that changes.

You can say that again. I've dreamed of Spikeout for so long it's almost as good as getting Streets of Rage 4. I see your point with the libraries for PS2 and GC but Xbox won't have a problem with anything the Noami 2 can produce. And who's to say they don't already have a good idea of how to use the Xbox, after all as you said Sega are using the console as its base for many class A titles.

If Microsoft have any common sense they'll thrown in a free toaster to get VF. VF, Shenmue and Panzer Dragoon would be something I could not resist. I have no bias it's just that Xbox can produce the best visuals, simple as that.

Recycled moves: No way, they can't do that. I already hate the faces and now we also get tekken1-TTT style recycled characters. Okay if it is one or two moves( aoi's Judo like move: bd P+G), it's okay, but more......no thanks.................and i thought Taka wasn't ready for the first VF4 Version and that he would come back in VF4 Evolution... /versus/images/icons/crazy.gif

Almaci: Let's not get into it here, but I think you know where I'm coming from. I see why Sega allows them post, but not charge -- videos of a game is still copyright infringement.

Anyways, has anyone heard a release date yet? That's what I'm most curious about.

Also, here's the worst coverage of Evo yet, or their Flash designer just flat out sucks -- courtesy of AM2. (Guess they're letting everyone else do the work).

quick correction: The brief vanessa shot we see during the 'new moves showcase' is in fact something new. What I previously thought was a lightning elbow is actually a different elbow strike. Vanessa doesn't rush forward as she would with the LE. Thanks to Zerochan for the pointer.

    While I haven't seen the movies yet;

I agree (with various people) that the character's faces are pretty wack from what I can see. I'm especially disappointed with the Judoka (having been one myself). I mean, a face piercing? Yeah, that goes well with matt-work. Maybe they figured there were too many straightforeward Japanese types already? That's why I was wishing they'd go with any of the other nations that do really well in judo: Cuba, Korea, France, Poland etc. Oh well, it's cool that he's big, at least. Looks like if he stood up straight, he'd be taller than Wolf. Maybe we'll be able to take out the face stud and change the hair.

Kickboxer... no offense to anyone, but are Goh and Brad coming to the World Fighting Tournament after all night at a gay rave? "okay, I'm ready to fight, now that my sideburns are perfectly groomed into 1/4" lines".

But, these are all appearances, I'm just really stoked they're making Judo. I hope they keep it traditional (no strikes). I'm also betting they've used other characters' moves as filler for now; remember how all the early footage of VF4 was recycled shit? And if they've made all these new moves for the old guys, I can't imagine they wouldn't do so for totally new characters.

Stages seem cool, as do the new modes and enhanced customizing. Too bad everyone here will most likely have to either shell out thousands for an import board or fall behind the curve roughly 6 more months while waiting for the Jap ps2 ver. before we even get to TOUCH the game.

    Pyrexia updated again...

they're talking about how the animations of the moves have changed. It shows a sequence of what they think is now Jacky's knee, showing how it's been de-generified (maybe there's 2 knees for Jacky, since I think Creed said he saw the old one).

Says Goh can hold the character, then Throw (like Wolf's Catch, or Ryo in ShenMue 2).

They also seem disappointed with the character design, saying that it doesn't look like Sega, and that Brad seems Tekken-ish.

The vid I saw (Creed's "corrected" vid) makes it look like Jacky's knee gets the Lion Knee treatment (going from traditional lunging knee into standing poke knee). But what I'm probably seeing there is db+P+K, but it does look different (actually, to me, it looks like Lion's VF4 knee).
