lol everything lau does gives good damage :p, i'd to learn to punish -14 things with 46P over 3PPK though as i think it gives better damage(and ofcourse oki with a potential to even more).

Yeah, of course (3p is 15 frames anyway). But as a normal move up close I'd rather use 3p than 46p. Dunno, I just like it now.

    Oh wow, someone new!

    Welcome here!

Have you been playing Virtua Fighter for long? We're always willing to answer any questions you might have (others are probably better at this than I am..).

We could play online some time if you want, I don't really like playing online, but it's better than nothing. Looking forward to meeting you in person.

    Welcome to hardcore VF ;).

    Thanx guys!

I`ve seen your posts across the board, thank you for your support!

I`m getting to know the game now, the only VF I played, was 4 EVO (NTSC version). I played Lion a lot. I couldn`t find any competition then and I quit(I knew there were lots of good Soul Calibur players in the Netherlands (know one of them, Euchen) as well as Tekken players, but didn`t know anything about the VF community).

Last year I saw an episode of the 1UP show focusing on the VF 5 phenomenon in Japan. That really made an impression on me. Young and old, going to arcades after work, competing like it was a sport. It was like SFII all over again.

Now with the enabled online play, I decided it was time to dive in (Live=Competition=Getting better!). Like I wrote before, I played Lion a lot (in SC I`m a mean Mitsurugi player and I use Feng Wei, Asuka and Bryan in Tekken) but I chose El Blaze and Wolf to start with here. I can see the potential of El Blaze, especially his ability to press almost all his moves with RD and his possible combos (that rising knee is just ridiculous as far as juggling power goes /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif!). I do find it strange he does not have more `standard` combos like /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif that mix high and low. Wolf is a monster in skilled hands, I can just feel it!

I`m purposely not looking at the combo or black book threads now, just fooling around and getting used to the `feel` of the game, but thank you in advance for not laughing at me if I ask any noob questions /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/blush.gif!

    El Blaze and Wolf!

Nice choice, there's some players that can show you the ropes with those two =].

I'd advise you to dó look at the combo/black book threads. Because having some ways to dish out some nice damage (combo's) and knowing some setups to put some pressure on your opponents (black book) makes the game a lot more fun (imo). If you're just playing without really having any chance of winning rounds (just hypothetically speaking here!) it'll make you hate the game after a while.

I'll send you a friend request as well!

like krye said, the black book combos are essential. Don´t learn em all, but try and learn a few key combos that will work on every character. After all, the game is about doing damage. But yea, get a feel for the game and the technical stuff will come with time.

anyways good to have you dude, we have like what? 10 or 9 players now that are willing to meet up offline. Hope to see you at a meetup soon. Trust me, that´s where the real fun is.

And if you want some offline practise I´m not that far away from Amsterdam.

@masterchief: about your comment here and in the blaze thread about high low mixes: i don't understand it fully.

firstly, since when is high and low a mixup?, you can duck both

second:the emphasis of lows is a lot lower than in namco fighters, in tekken you could have 50%bar launchers on a low, in vf you should be happy it comes out as neutral on hit. nearly all lows are unsafe and give negative frames on hit and often 0 on ch. just looking at the frames shows that lows work differently than tekken/sc.

then in third place: blaze isn't a mixup character, he focusses on delays, crushes and staggers to pressure the opponant. a string like p2k only works to annoy the opponant into whiffing something or trying to interrupt blaze so he can get a ch or stagger.

I play a lot of blaze, so if you have any questions that aren't being answered(boards can be slow) send me a pm and i can maybe help you answer your questions.
if you feel the need to pressure the opponant with lows 1P and 2K+G are good options and 1P crushes highs and gives + on ch and 2K+G gives knd on ch. 46pp2k isn't that good as there isn't a mixup involved, you can always duck(and punish) the 3rd hit of the string.

for both wolf and blaze i don't think you need any blackbook lists, it's easier to come up with juggles for yourself, el blaze has pretty straightforward juggles at the end of the day and wolf is pretty easy stuff to find for yourself too.

I'll add you, I live in Tilburg so that's pretty sweet (FINALLY SOMEONE WHO LIVES CLOSE TO ME!). I'm going to start playing a lot more soon guys. I'm still waiting for WCG to give more information on what games in NL they are sending out to germany, if Guitar Hero 3 isn't there I'm going to be inactive in that game and I'll pick up VF5 again. I have been talking a little bit with Fulaani about changing characters and I'll keep you posted /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

You can count on Guitar Hero being there. As far as I've heard, America is far above the rest of the world, but other than them, everyone is pretty equal.

Are you only gonna play if GH3 isn't in WCG? VF5 is so much more fun than GH3 =[.

    Thanx for the replies guys!

@Fulan: I`m willing to meet up, you guys have a good thing going, just give me 2 weeks to get accustomed to the game, so I don`t overly embaress myself /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazy.gif and I`ll be in touch soon.

@NGKrush: Let me explain better, I used a Tekken term for a VF moveset, my mistake. What I meant was, there aren`t a lot of movelist combinations like /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif that end on a low move for El Blaze. After practising yesterday I see that in this game, you do that stuff manually. I noticed /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif (+ on CH). The rising kick (rising from crouch, as this game has another definition for `rising` than I`m used to /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif) after that is a launcher, but that`s a really slow move. I like using /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif. I thought switching games would be easy but it`s going to take some work and a lot of practise against other players to get anywhere. Thanks man for the help, I`ll contact you if I`m stuck.

@akebueno: Thank you, I`ll be in touch soon. I studied 2 years at the VU /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cry.gif!

@Deepoe: I`m gonna add you too.

I'd only go to the tournament for Guitar Hero seeing as i actually have a shot at winning at that game :p. I know I'm not very good compared to the Americans but that's not the point, i want to meet players who can actually beat me at my game and i don't see that happening in NL :<.

And no I'm not only going to play if GH3 isn't in WCG :p i'm just saying i'll play VF a lot more if GH3 isn't on WCG /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif I'm playing either way :p

    That's what I wanted to hear /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif .

There's plenty of time to practice, though. I wouldn't expect the NL qualifiers to be anywhere before the end of May, unless they're gonna do multiple pre-qualifiers (which they were talking about), but that just gives you more practice opportunities =p.

BTW Rock Band is way more fun than GH3, played it a LOT in Germany and I can't wait til it's finally released in Europe =].

I've been waiting for rock band since it was released in the states, it's been delayed 2 times and it's pissing me off that they don't release it here yet

And more players enter the fray.

Hello, I'm the resident theory-nut who sometimes dabbles with actually playing the game /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I'm a ps3 bound Brad player and travel for my games (when work doesn't interfere), so I won't see you on live.

    MasterChief:
NGKrush didn't misunderstand you, he just said lows are different in VF. You can talk to him in Tekken terms as much as you want, since he's got a mean Jack-5 going on in that game...

I recently picked up Lion as a secondary character and am still trying to dig my way through him. Funny to see someone do the opposite.

    Deepoe:
Well hello there. Made a choice of character(s) yet?

    @Spoon: Thank you!

@Vortigar: Well, I see what he meant, lows are almost all unsafe on block (!). If all the people here meet up regurarly, I`m in on the party, just give me 2 weeks to get accustomed to the play mechanics. (I picked Lion back up as well last night, his moves are still very much the same, slightly different `feel` though.)

As far as Tekken goes....(I did secretly promise no other fighting games than VF, at least until SCIV, Tekken 6 and especially Street Fighter IV and HD Remix get out)....I got a mean ol` Bryan waiting for that Jack any day /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif (that`s my war face by the way /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif )! I`m just kidding, I really like what you got going on here on this board (on this site too by the way), all these friendly people willing to help out newcomers, respect! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbs_up.gif

(P.S.: I bought the game for PS3 too, the JAP version with the way cooler Akira/El Blaze cover, but that`s a version B based game, right?)
