You said MOST animes have BAD/slow pacing. This is not true, even when you look at it from a western perspective. Like I said, I don't believe you saw enough anime to make such a statement.

Depends on how you look at it. If you think western pacing is the one speed that's good, then you could say eastern pacing is bad (and slow). If you, however, don't dig western pacing, then you could reverse it and say eastern pacing is best. You could also like both and say you don't care. It's all a subjective thing.

Then again, you could also say something like: if you have a certain pacing speed in one filmindustry, then aren't the movies that use a different speed the ones that stand out?

Having seen loads of anime series, I have to agree with NGK that most do have pacing flaws. Lots of anime is simple cash in stuff aimed squarely at the fandom. Saying you shouldn't watch it doesn't discount the existence of it.

Worst are the 'mainstream' anime shows with obligatory hot springs, beach, summer trip, first date/carnival, obon festival, recap and whatnot eps that usually bring absolutely nothing new to the table. The very fact anime fans speak of filler eps at all is a (size Mars) hint of bad pacing.

Sure, there's great stuff out there, you won't hear me (or NGK) denying that. But if I have to make a call on most anime, then I'd probably have to agree with Fulan that, yes, it sucks. Just like most movies suck, most Western cartoons suck, most books suck, most comic books suck, etc, etc.

Maybe I'm just a cynical bastard though. I've yet to meet a perfect ten in anything I've heard/seen/done.

    Fulan:
Really, I can probably point you to something you'll like. Just like Hollywood movies, there's so much out there that there's no way you can dislike all of it. Unless of course you think drawn characters are shallow, unrelatable and immature or something ^_^

    General remark:
Slow pacing is not bad perse, no matter what your medium or genre is. As long as you can keep your stuff compelling you can move like a bloody slug. Noir, good show, brought some people to sleep, Der Himmel Uber Berlin, good movie, I almost fell asleep multiple times.

All said and done. Let's end this debate right here and now before the incoming shitstorm.

More importantly, why has no one noticed my new signature yet?

Other good examples of slow pacing, but good results, are "Anna Karenina" and "War and Peace" by Leo Tolstoy. Even though these are books, essentially it's pretty much the same concept: slow story progress, but it still keeps you reading.

So on saturday: Are we gonna meet up at Rotterdam Centraal at noon?

I hope it's possible to play some casuals after most matches are over, not very likely, though.

And on something completely different (and way more VF related), I read somewhere (forgot where exactly), that some players felt that doing one throwescape during ETEG was best, because of the risk of failing an input when you do more and thereby whiffing a throw. This does make some sense to me, also because doing multiple TE's is kind of a hassle which I don't think is really something I wanna be thinking of every match.

What is your take on this?

edit: nice stuff in your sig, spoon. Is that some random japanese chick or someone that's actually cosplaying?

do one throwescape till you feel you are comfy with it, then try 2 in casuals for kicks and fun till you feel comfy with it.

random japanese chick, Aoi is real! =p

If not, 5 man die het spannend gaan maken..

'You don't have to win the first lap, you've got to win the last!'

    In other news:
Capcom is producing a Fate Stay Night fighting game. No idea if you guys heard of this. Gameplay seems to be a lot like GG, but its in 3d cell shaded.

    Youtube linky to trailer

Moeten heel erg uitkijken met overstap in Amersfoort.
