The newsletter can and will be catered to the community. The more people get involved the better it can and will be. I just chose green because it's my favorite color.

I'm unilaterally nominating WEIAND and Air Jacky for profile articles.

Yeah Rod , I was thinking one reason VF isn't a household name is because Sega never tried to push the fiction of the backstory, with cinemas , endings cutscenes and such. I suggest you guys pool your efforts and make a fan-made VF manga. If that's too ambitious , you should include a comic strip in the newsletter . Maybe something satirical about VFs story. Maybe something like "Curb your Enthusiasm" but featuring VF characters. Besides all those other great things they do Penny Arcade is best known for their comic strip.

I really think you could capture the hearts and minds of gamers with that. Look, you could get them in the door with the comic strip / manga, and they could come across the more technical side of VF while they're checking that out. A really sneaky thing would to sneak some VF technical jargon in-jokes in the comic strip. SF and Mortal Kombat compounded their popularity by doing so many comics and anime that they became more than just games, they became part of pop culture . ( Yes I know about the VF anime, but that was over 15 years ago. Memories are short , a reboot of sorts is in order.)

WEIAND turned me down. Air Jacky I still need to ask.

Maybe we can do an article on the character specific stepping (and stepping in general) in VF5?

    Shame to hear about WEIAND!

I like the idea about the stepping article. One of the things I've wanted to do for a long time is to explore the evade and dash cancel mechanics and differences among the cast. So this might give me enough motivation to finally use the programmable controller I picked up from KoD back in 2009! Will keep you all posted.

Ok I'm finally gonna have a decent amount of time this weekend to start work on the next issue of the newsletter and also try to learn about wiki authoring. I'm a slow learner so everyone please be patient with me.

I need a little help from you guys.... I know who I would like to interview next and while I would like to get everyone involved by allowing you all to choose the questions, for this person. I also really like the idea of surprise and the anticipation that builds from you all not knowing who it is until the issue is released.

So how do we go about this? Would you all like to always know who is up next or would you prefer to be surprised? I can go either way. I just want to build something that causes a little excitement around here.

Also is there anyone here on the board who is a creative writer and wouldn't mind working on a monthly project for the newsletter? I just need someone who is willing to produce a 1 to 2 page article. In the future once we get tons of people involved I would like the newsletter to be either a weekly or bi-weekly release. And with the last release of each month the project I would like to pass on to a creative writer be published in that issue.

If anyone is interested then please PM me for details on what the project is. If I can find someone I would like to include it in the 3rd release of the newsletter. FOR THOSE CONTACTING ME ABOUT THE PROJECT, PLEASE DO NOT DISCLOSE WHAT IT IS WHETHER YOU WERE PICKED OR NOT.

    Thanks!

LOL this is like a GF: "I want to be surprised, but I also want to feel safe. I also want somebody confident, but sweet. Tough, but in touch with his sensitive side. Kind, but also rough in bed"

I started writing a Jacky guide a while back. Never really got around to finishing it but I do have part 3 almost finished on my computer. I know I've shown parts one and two, to a couple of people here.

When I get my computer back I'll try and wrap it up although it will need to be made less offensive to the eye at some point.

Konjou - I have been dabbling with making interactive pdfs. If you ever want to make the newsletter with button interactions, movies, etc. I can help with that.

I would love to help in anyway possible, gotta keep the community alive!

-Maybe you could add a moves sections and include things like extremely useful moves and explain their properties in detail and how to use them efficiently (Like Aoi's Ryoushi [4][3][P] or El Blaze's OMPK) for people who may be learning a new character.
-Maybe adding polls and posting the results onto the Newsletter.
-Adding a "Character Section" where all players of that character can comment as to why they enjoy playing them/favorite playstyle/bad player habits...

Just random ideas, I'll post more when I come up with em'.

STL would be great for that. Also, take a look at what Leonard_McCoy put together in regards to stepping.

I'd be interested in helping with this community newsletter. I saw podcasting in the other thread and thought i would mention i have some experience assembling one. There's many ways to do it, and all of it is hard work and the final product is best when multiple people are involved in the workload.

Here's a podpress site i built and host for a mud i frequent (http://bat.org) podcast site here: http://www.batmudpodcast.com. i'm also one of the hosts on the podcast. I go by Dvough over there. I have a server and audio editing software for anything we might need to facilitate a project like this.

I'd be happy to help start the Virtua Fighter Podcast (VFPC) if there's enough interest in it.

MotorCityJacky, just wanted to say thanks for the kind offer to help with the VFPC (haha). I think it'd be great if we could eventually get into the routine of producing podcasts on a semi-regular basis.

Hopefully the newsletter effort will gain enough momentum to serve as a logical lead in!?

BTW, do you have any experience with web hosting in general?

I'm currently exploring podcasting at the moment and as Myke mention I too am aiming for a semi monthly release. It doesn't seem to difficult to put together. Honestly the hardest thing so far seems to be coming up with the right personality to not bore your listeners.

I'm testing a few things out with the equip I currently own, but it looks like an upgrade for better mic etc maybe in order. I'll keep everyone posted.

Re: VF Newsletter... get involved! - COMMUNITY EFF

Sorry for double posting this from the other thread, but I just wanted to provide everyone with some sort of an update. Ok have to get to work!

<span style="font-family: 'Arial'">Ok well I still have not received back Marly's responses so it looks like issue #2 is on hiatus until he responds.

In the meantime I'm going to release this as a filler. It's a test run podcast that I was doing with Denkai over the weekend that I didn't plan on releasing, but fuck it why not. I recommend you listen to it via headphones as it can be a little hard to hear Denkai's responses through normal speakers.

It was my first time using Audacity so I didn't know how to amplify the volume for the person I'm recording. While listening to the audio you will hear at times the sound level increase and decrease. That's me tinkering with one of Audacity's amplify features that you can use after you have recorded something.

If anyone uses Audacity and could provide some feedback please feel free to PM me. I wanted to do some more testing yesterday, but unfortunately I couldn't due to work. Hopefully I can look into things today and really get this recording thing under my belt as I'd like to start doing Podcast more frequently. It was actually a lot of fun.

A few things I learned on my first attempt at making a podcast:

    1) DON'T SIP OR DRINK THINGS DURING A RECORDING LOL. I totally forgot that I was recording our conversation so you will constantly here me sipping on hot tea for like the first 15-20 minutes of the recording. Sorry to anyone if this gets annoying.

    2) Be mindful that when you get excited and your own volume raises that could be annoying to the listeners. Playing back the recording there were so many times that the volume spiked from me going " mmmmmmmmmmmm " or just getting excited about something... sorry guys!

    3) You need decent equipment to negate background noise! Living in a NYC apartment can be pretty rough especially for me because I live on a main street where a lot of bikers like to ride there motorcycles, dirt bikes, etc down the street doing wheelies etc. As a matter of fact while doing the recording some guy riding a dirt bike doing a wheelie got knocked off his bike by a car making a turn onto the main street. OUCH! I'll try to make a recording of when these bikers roll through cause sometimes it's crazy to hear the roaring of engines and then you look outside and it's like 100+ bikes rolling by with some of the guys doing the most insane tricks or variations of wheelies like sitting on the handle bar while the bike is up in the air.

    4) Setting up some sort of structure so conversation is flowing in a specific order and not jumping all over the place. Sometime this is fine, but I think to not lose the topic of each Podcast I should create some sort of structure. It didn't have that often, but we did kind of jump around in some places.... Suggestions anyone?

There is a few more things, but it's early and I can't remember.

Anyway, I've uploaded the file to MEGAUPLOAD so feel free to download it and provide some feedback.

I got to give it to you Rod, you beat me and Frankie to it. We've been planning on doing a VF podcast for over a year.

I haven't listened to yours yet but I know mine will be better. [IMG]

Going to listen now but the one thing I will say (before listening) is just having a bullet list of the topics you want to cover is helpful because then you can have an organic conversation but still be able to circle back to any point prior to a tangent being explored.

    Good work, Rod.
