Is it normal to charge $5 bucks for entry? Don't forget another $5 for the tournament fee.

I will check with South Town Arcade about the casual pay per play (That is definite for Saturday). Unsure if that is true for the pre-tournament play.

Update: The STA website just posted that VF5FS tournaments will be on a monthly basis (Subject to Change).

    3.1: February 10th
    3.2: March 23rd
    3.3: April 27th

@southtownarcade Thanks for reply. Is the pre-tournament casual play also 75 cents per play or does the $5 venue fee cover that?

@Akai_JC Casuals are charged per play; venue fee covers the tournament (cabs will be on free play from tourney start until SEGA leaves)

$0.75 per play??? What is this the days of VF3 again? I remember arcades charging $1.00 per play for like the first 2-3 months when that game came out. When I finally got the nerve to drop my first $1.00 on the game I ended up spending $71.00 on that day and about 2-3 times that amount by the end of the month. Thankfully I was working, lived with my mom and had no bills.

No offense, but I'm glad I'm not going. I am happy for everyone who is going though and I really hope you all enjoy yourself. As for me, I'll wait for the demo or final release.

Rod you're stuck in nostalgia and have not thought about inflation.

Arcade operators have to pay rent and other expenses. They can't afford to keep afloat on .25 a game like in yesteryears.

Would you rather have an arcade or nothing at all?

We might be able to smell some pheromone about the released date.

SEGA wants to do FS promotion and also covers his spend. If they really rely on the incomes from VF arcades, they can handle the setup in the store since day 1 they had.

Monthly basis looks good for promotion, but I doubt VFDCers can actually handle this kind of cost in one day play.

Thanks for the post up! It actually make clear that how many people might come to this party. I'll bring my FS guide of course.

Yeah I guess you are right. I am stuck in yester-years. Despite inflation my mind is still stuck on $0.50 cent play days. It wasn't to little and it wasn't to much.

I was talking to this Mortal Kombat player about why people don't play VF and he said "the reason why VF isn't popular is because the VF community does support VF." why did you have to prove him right with the 75 cent is to much money conversation I just read.
The USA needs to thank California for not only proving a mortal kombat player right but failing to represent VF because it a 75 cents to play.

I have family in the San Francisco area that I plan on visiting, so I definitely will try to plan the visit around one of those future tournament dates.

If South Town Arcade does have monthly VF tournaments, I would like to create a thread similar to the KSVI and VFR summary threads.

Do the math bro and you will see where my gripe came from. It's gonna cost me about $300 or more to get there and that's not even including a hotel room. If I payed a dollar for VF3, I'm sure if FS was closer or in my city I don't think I'd have a problem paying $0.75 cents. Plus I honestly don't know the cost of arcades anymore considering they are non existing in NYC. I haven't been to an arcade since the release of SFIV at china town and before that I honestly couldn't tell you because once our VF4evo machine was kicked out of china town fair there really was no reason for me to go back considering I had stopped playing all other fighting games except VF. I used to be a pretty decent 3s player, but I loved VF more.

I think this is a huge factor. entry fee (minimal), hotel, food, air fare/travel ... all large investments. and then you get to add pay per play on top of it.

community support isn't about open pockets and a blind eye to savings. I would have preferred to see a flate rate (day or weekend pass), wrist band and free play set up to .75 a play.

I may be wrong here but aren't these sega's machines, that sega imported? Do they still own them or did the arcade purchase or was forced to lease them? Because if they are sega's machines still then all of this should fall under marketing and promotions. which means that the most the arcade should have to recoup is the loss of space a promotion like this might eat up. Best arcade I ever went to was in Oakville, ON. we'd pay $15 and get the machine on free play, play until the place closed (which was usually when people left) and buy full price burgers, fries and drinks. The place made money off of us and we saved scads of cash.

.75 a play seems like a very shallow approach to what could be a great promotion.

Lol, maybe I'm oldschool but I'm glad it's pay to play. Makes the matches count more. [IMG]

Agree $0.75 feels high but it is a new game!

    Sigh, I miss arcades...

With tekken.net trying to clear a path stateside this would be the time to show support. I remember all.net being up for a bit here, but never tracked it's progress. The only way I can show support at this time is for sega to lift their lease only rule, so I can buy a FS kit.

    Goodluck Cali!!!

see, it's the old school in me that thought it would be okay at .25 a play.

$0.25 would have been a very classy (and classic) price of entry.

If any old timers are coming in, you can crash at my pad while you're here. Bring your sticks and a sleeping bag/pillow [IMG]

Send me a private message or email/facebook message as I don't check in here as often as I used to.
