Virtua Fighter 2 and other games returning?

I think I was lucky that Portland's own Lloyd Center Tilt arcade had a Fighting Vipers machine!

That said, I am jealous that Sega Gameworks in Seattle had Last Bronx in the late 90s!

So I get the feeling that these will be in a 3-pack like the recent Sega Heritage collections. Which unfortunately means I doubt they will have online play.

I do hope they have Fighters megamix come out eventually (maybe in another triple pack with Last Bronx and... something else, maybe Anarchy inthe Nippon!?). I would definitely play a Fighters Megamix side-tourney. Janet's 4,6+P+K all day. FIRE FIRE FIRE! RELOAD!

    Dear Sega,
I will forever support you, and will buy your HD remake games, and am eagerly awaiting FV and VF2 even though I will barely play them... if only for the nostalgia. But I really want VF4evo arcade port in HD. Please. And maybe Sega Rally arcade HD. Please. Those 2, I will play my fingerprints off.

So what's up with the older SEGA games? We should try to get behind these as well. People still play ST, why not VF2, when it becomes more widely available? Same goes for Fightera Megamix.

I'd like Sega to do a proper Golden Axe Co-op action RPG type game.

Beast Rider was an ok game.....but really, that game could have been called something else, and it would have been just ok.
Not worthy of the Golden Axe name.

Also, I'd like to see a possible in-depth co-op game (along the lines of said Golden Axe game) using the Streets of Rage name...damn that was a fun series back in the day.
Though I do understand that these days players want more than just 'beat up Guy A...proceed...beat up Guy B...repeat.'

Still, with all the tech, gameplay, and graphical advancements, I can't help but think that Sega CAN revive these two series in a proper way.

Do it Sega! I'll buy if done right..

Maybe my inexperience with the VF scene is showing, but I always felt that in most cases each new VF game has trumped the old one to the point of making it obsolete. Kind of like SF3 New Generation vs SF3 Third Strike. Why would anyone play NG?

Maybe I'm wrong completely, but is there anything that VF2 does better than Final Showdown? Having said that, I would play it casually sometimes but that would purely be nostalgia value.

Fighters Megamix on the other hand, bring that shit on, it's so hilariously silly and fun.

Could you imagine a Streets of Rage with Yakuza's fighting engine? Hnngggg...

Well, I've never played Yakuza, but from the way you make it sound, it would be a sweet thing indeed.

I was thinking something like characters who move in full 3D space, but have movesets and depth almost like a one on one fighter...using environments and stuff you find along the way to your advantage.
Also have the enemy AI do more than just stand there, throw a few punches, block, then stand there again.

I'd even go for less enemies on-screen, if it meant that the fewer enemies behaved smarter than dozens of mindless fight fodder characters on-screen.

They tried doing something like a Streets of Rage style game back in the PS1 days, but the tech simply couldn't handle all the variables...i am sure they can now...or if not, then whenever the new playstations and xboxs come out.

What I know now about VF 2 then to what I know now, I would like another crack at it. Before I had fun but now, I think I would have more fun with it especially with more people to play. Same goes for Last Bronx and Fighting Vipers. It not that the newer games trump the older ones in the same way 3rd Strike does to NG, it's just despite the flaws I feel like I could still have fun with these. The only old VF I couldn't get down with again is the original VF5.

I have more fun with ST than 3rd Strike.

Final Showdown is awesome since its a throw back to the older VFs meaning damage, Throw Escapes, speedbut still builds upon them using the Bound system it started back in VF 5 to keep the combos even crazier than before. Sure some stuff has been made easier but the game is still forcing your opponent into hard guesses and them trying to find a way out.

Edit: by Throw Escapes I was meaning a simplified version.

... This is totally unique to Final Showdown.

We "old-timers" like the nostalgia of it, well, at least me. It's fun to play a game from back in the day. Sometimes, the simpler version of the game is more enjoyable... maybe not better... just more enjoyable (just give me 5 options instead of 50 in situational thinking). It cuts to the essence of the game, without all the filler. The only thing with VF & VF2 is the high jumps were just ridiculous.

But if you could, do yourself a favor and buy a PS2 if you already don't have one, and buy VF4 Evolution. Play the training on that game, and COMPLETE the training for a character. You will find Virtua Fighter nirvana my friend. Your understanding and appreciation of VF will jump 10 fold, and you will become a much better player.

A lot of techniques are passed down from previous games, so this training in VF4 Evo will be useful in playing VF5 FS. You soon find that VF5 FS is a dumbed down and simplified VF4. Some people think that VF4 Evo is better and VF5 vanilla or FS... like me.

You've pretty much described Yakuza. You have a huge number of moves and can use an obscene amount of weapons and parts of the environment in the fight (slamming heads into parked cars, swinging someone into a lamp-post, kicking them through windows etc). Do yourself a favour and check out Yakuza 3 on PS3, I think you would like it :)
    (Sorry for going off topic!)

@Catch22 and Femto, I see what you mean about VF2, and yeah in terms of some casual play I would definitely play VF2 as well. I used to play the crap out of it back in the day, but I was never really serious since I was only young and didn't get into the deeper aspects of it. Would love to go back and try to apply what I've learnt to it.

And yes, I should make an attempt to pick up VF4 Evo on PS2 sometime. I missed it the first time around since I didn't have a PS2 until a few years ago, but I would like to go back and try it again.

Dude, VF4 EVO is a dirt cheap game, has tons of extras, and hands down, THE MOST COMPREHENSIVE "HOW TO PLAY" A FIGHTING GAME TRAINING MODE EVER DEVISED.

Again, I cannot stress enough to go through that training mode. It'll take your play in FS to another level.

EVO is still awesome, I like doing the Throw Break trials in it, and it comes with a revamped VF 1, which is awesome. I wish SEGA, put back the VF 1 models in Final Showdown. That would been cool as well.

I prefer the movement in FS to that of the 4 series. Gonna pick up 3TB again and mess around with Korean Step.

This seems cool, great arcade games.

(Plus I won't have to worry about my computer not responding)

Maybe a few years down the line, SEGA will start releasing plenty of the Model 2, 3 and Naomi games onto the modern online HD networks. Arcade perfect, lagless multiplayer, reasonable pricing etc.
Games I would love to revisit in this way from previous decades would include VF3, Scud Race, Last Bronx, Confidential Mission and that shark hunting one they did. I think Japan PS2 had a few of these on the AGES packs, but obviously offline for most people now? I just about remember VF2 in the arcades, standing miles out from stuff like Roadblasters, Rolling Thunder and Double Dragon, but was a bit too young at the time to embrace what was patently a highly complex title. My understanding is that both the Saturn and Dreamcast ports of VF were fairly cut-down, so a loving refresh for a wider audience today would be a most welcome move by the company.

This is just awesome. Man, I can't wait.

Confidential Mission was on Naomi. :)

Yup, and Cosmic Smash along with Jambo! Safari, where are they now? Ten years may as well be one hundred, looking back today.
Virtua Cop of course, back on M2, fantastic music and scoring. After Ghost Squad on Wii, shame they never ported over 2 Spicy as well. NiGHTS HD... now that has to happen

EDIT: My goodness, go on holiday for two weeks, come back, and the world changes
