Myke, what did you think of J2ME Virtua Fighter Mobile (Virtua Fighter 3D Mobile) on other cellphones created by Southend in Sweden?

I tried to buy it yesterday(the 240x320 UIQ3/S60 version), but could only try it for free for my (ageing) SE P1i and thought it was actually quite good; especially after I forced the keypad into number mode(pressed ALT twice) and was able to play it with punch, kick and guard.

It has an introduction, training, practice and arcade mode, beginner, normal, expert controls(with 3 different crouch modes, sticky by default); and Kages TFT is definitely in the movelist as he executed it against me more than once.

If anyone knows a uk based url that sells the game on SE P1i so I can buy it that would be much appreciated. I tried sending it from SE PlayNow website but it said my phone is nolonger supported [IMG].

Never even knew that existed! The iPhone is the first smartphone I've owned, so I'm pretty much ignorant of mobile games on any other device.

But I'm curious how Southend got the rights to do this port, and (if it's any good) could they be contracted to do iPhone games?

Right now, the idea of playing (any) VF on my phone is pretty powerful that I find myself tinkering with this absolutely shitty genesis port more often than not. Fuck.

On the PSP and PS3 you can usually access downloaded game's manuals by press playstation button, but I'm not sure if iPhone has something similar. But I image this move list from one of the gamefaqs for the VF2 genesis version will still be correct.

As for Virtua Fighter mobile 3D, it has the feeling of a real VF(3 AI settings) and has entertained me on easy, if a little bit difficult on my particular phone's bi-function qwerty keys. But I bet it works really well on a Nokia N95, etc; although 240x320 version seems better than the other two versions I tried. If I can get to buy a copy and get competent on my phone, I may do a video of playing it for youtube.

The iPhone has no such (universal) feature. It's really left up to the app creator how much help to include in their product.

Thanks for the gamefaqs link. Lo and behold, looking through it I notice Kage has no [IMG][6][K] knee listed, along with a bunch of other moves. Explains why I couldn't do it after countless attempts at trying. I was left with the thought that my input timing was all jacked up, but -- and I never thought I'd say this -- the GOOD THING is that this fucking piece of shit version is actually worse than I thought!

OMG. I bought the game as well and echo all your thoughts -- this game is so shite and has "budget" written over it. Compare/contrast to SF4 and it just makes me want to cry.

I was trying to do [bk][bk][k]+[g] for what seems like ages but could never get it to come out. Then I realized it's not there. Want to know how limited Kage's movelist is in this crappy port?

    Yep, that's it.

Also, in defeating the AI, Kage's sped up [p] probably contributed at least 50% of all damage I inflicted.

You're doing it wrong. Jeff, mash [6][6]+[P] and do a down attack when you get the Powerslam. Then repeat until you win.

"doing it wrong" in this case means you're playing VF2 for the iPhone.

For anyone with an iDevice who is looking for a great pocket fighter to make up for that poor excuse of a VF game you should check out Bruce Lee: Dragon Warrior. Trust me you won't be disappointed!

I downloaded the Free version for iPhone after reading some reviews and I'm really glad I tried it. Man is this game fun! The combat system is simple and works really well for a touch device fighter and while it does seem simple the game has lots of depth to it hidden in it's combos, counters, throws, blocking and finishing blows.

The game currently cost $2.99 for iPhone / iPod Touch, but for those who have an iPad the HD version is currently on sale right now for $0.99. Luckily I own an iPad, so I immediately bought that version and just can't get enough of it. It helps me kill time while traveling on the subway to and from work if I can get a comfortable seat on the train that is hehehe.

I kind of wish there was a console version.
