To commemorate the 20 years of Virtua Fighter, Sega has started a new website - http://vf20th.sega.jp/ From the first blog post of the site (rough translation) - "20 years have passed since the release of Virtua Fighter. Thank you very much to our fans." This special site will be sequentially updated to celebrate this milestone, looking back at every step of the path to present day. From AM2's website and Famitsu's article, the anniversary site will subsequently give a glimpse to the development of the games in the series along with tournament history, something for both new and old fans. The 20th anniversary site starts off with the opening movie from the original Virtua Fighter.

Sega of the past was pretty bad as well. Hence why they aren't in the console biz today.

It's sucks being a fan of their work, and not living in Japan. When I get a PC I'll have all their games for free, but still...

VF, as an IP, not just VF6, should be on every possible platform, current gen, previous gen, portable, Steam Machines, Steam, Mac, etc. VF for everyone, if you please!

I haven't been a fan since '86 (I was 2 years old...) but I feel your pain man and share your pessimism.

I want to love Sega, I want to get my hopes up and start getting excited about the next newest game. But, then Sega does what they always do. Ignore us and put out yet another Sonic themed game.

Have you been to Sega's facebook page? Everything they post is inundated with comments from users about Shenmue, PSO, Yakuza, Skies of Arcadia, etc etc etc....and still nothing from Sega.

They'll announce a Sonic game for iOS, then turn their back on the fans that are screaming for ANY news on their favorite franchise...

I want to hope that this lil thing they are doing on the 26th will make me happy. But, I won't be surprised if the 27th rolls around and we are still left wondering if Sega still cares about the VF franchise...

Sega cares about VF, just not it's fans outside of Japan. They have thrown nice gestures(EVO, Sega Cup) but with the way the economy is, these business are going through acquisitions and need to bet on sure things.

However, Japan will still get Sonic even though Japan has always hated Sonic, while outside Japan, we don't get their awesome titles because of low sales.

This 20th Anniversary is awesome but Japan centric for a reason.

The saddest part about Sega's situation is how many great IPs they're just sitting on, even though I'm far from the first to notice this. You just don't see many companies with great franchises that are just screaming for new material like Fantasy Zone, Chu Chu Rocket, Jet Set Radio, and Virtual-On doing absolutely nothing with what they've got. How hard would it have been for them to bring Virtual On: Operation Moongate and Virtua Striker to Western XBLA and PSN? It's just...strange.

Either way, I second the notion that I'd go absolutely nuts for VF1, 3, or 4 online (Even though I haven't found anyone on VF2 online for months).

Not quite, you'd be surprised...Sonic Adventure was Japan's number one top selling Dreamcast game.

^That's an outlier and one example up against many. Sonic was always more popular in the West, which chapped Yuji Baka's lame ass.

I totally get where you're coming from! I hope that reply didn't come off as snarky. Lately a few Sonic games haven't been released in Japan (even though some were only released in Japan; the whole thing's a mess). I just think that there is a common misconception that Sonic is unpopular in Japan just like there is that VF is unpopular in the West. I think that the reception for VF5FS on consoles more than warrants any new console material to be released worldwide. Sega's "game plan" is just absolutely baffling. I will say that VF is actually a franchise the Sega handles pretty well with Western releases (console, at least) in comparison to some others. I feel like the main problem is that VF is mostly an arcade community in Japan. The arcade scene in America is, sadly, nothing in comparison. Things like interviews with the Tetsujins would just get lost in translation here, but a re-release of VF1/3/4 definitely wouldn't. I'm optimistic that any new console material would make it to Western shores.

      Watching the Denjin Getcha stream.

Chibita, Bunbun-maru, Itabashi Zangief and others are there, they are playing a few games.

I dont understand anything at all...LOL but I think they announced a Virtua Fighter 20th anniversary event, in Tokyo Joypolis:

12/14 (Sat) 15:30 "20th anniversary celebration Virtua Fighter Festival"

They're making a big enough deal out of this that I'd be surprised if they DIDN'T announce VF6, or at least a new game in the series.

First post updated with information from the Blog #3 entry today on the site. As mentioned already by Joanot it is about the December 14th event.

A rough synopsis of the VF portion from Today's episode of Denjin Gatcha:

      - Some fan art of VF at the very beginning. At the ~1h25m mark - VF 20th Anniversary intro (just quickly going through the 5 VF titles). Itabashi Zangief and Sexy Saito was doing most of the talking for the Sega VF representatives. Itabashi was introduced as a pro player and someone that won Sega Cup Europe recently. A powerpoint slide going through the history of Virtua Fighter with the first slide starting at 1982. Then the Tetsujin crew and Chibita crew came in. Not much history of them was presented, but from what I understood - Ikekuburo Sarah is turning 50 or already is. So he started playing VF in his 30s. Chibita on the other hand started playing when he was a kid, in his early 30s now I think.

The show is catered toward the casual audience, even more geared toward the younger audience. Then they did some promoting of VF5 on consoles and had a "Denjin Gacha" vs "Dream Team." It mostly was a show of different level of people playing and "having fun." Imo, the first match showed someone can spam in the game and still have fun :p The second match had Kyasao - where he stated he will win with a ring out, and did just that for one round. Third match was with a former model (now one of the show's host) so there was that. Fourth match was some playful taunting by someone that actually play VF (had his own VF Card) against Bunbun. Then the fifth match, Denjin team recruited Itabashi Zangief to play for them against Chibita (with the two girl hosts jokingly luring Zangief to their side).

Then came the information of the December 14th event at Tokyo Joyopolis (as posted in the latest blog 3 entry). One noticeable inclusion in the show is Katsuhiro Harada being one of guest at the event. A person I'm not familiar with, that also will be present at the event, Ryou。@Ojogiri dā (someone very talented with a deep voice and also the high pitch one) she played against Sexy Saito.

Is that too much to ask for a VF HD Collection, VF4FT for PSVita, VF6 and Tekken vs. Virtua Fighter?
