At last! All the character costumes have been released here: up0110.jpg:

All in all I think Goh came out the best with his B and D costumes imo. Sarah and Lau's D costumes are...out there, but I appreciate that Sega went to this length of development. Extra costumes are one of the features I appreciated in other fighting games like the DOA series.

Is it just me or does Brad's D costume look similar to John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever? /versus/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I think the new bounce feature is…interesting. It can be perceived as a novelty but new features often are by their very nature. And when you start being overly critical of something as implausible as bouncing your opponent off the ground then you’re also faced with questioning the validity of moves like Kage’s TFT, all the moves that cause flop stuns and even float combos themselves.

I think games are at their most entertaining when they tread the fine line between reality and fantasy. Otherwise, in this instance I’d just spend more money on Muay Thai lessons.

Dragon Punches, SPOD’s and the like just aren’t feasible in the real world. So I appreciate the opportunity to administer them to my heart’s content in games.

Besides, is it any different from using [2_][P] to scoop your opponent off the ground for more damage? I for one think that Jeffry player had excellent special awareness and used the stage to his advantage. The part at the end where he threw Wolf into the wall and used his air catch to slam him back down was great imo.

well i believe bounce combos cause more harm than good.
Combo characters, with large strings benefit tremendously. Akira can 90 points of damage in an easy do do 4 hit bounce combo, the "difficulty" normally associated with akira is now much more toned down (which im sure some akira players dont like). Jeffry can do >100 pts of damage from a DOUBLE bounce combo and his new strings. On the flip side, throw characters like Wolf and Goh will lack to benefit from it. Because of their limited moves list and lack of quality strings, even if they can bounce characters, there is not much available to certain characters for them to exploit.

So combo and string characters get better and slower characters and throw types get worse because they cannot benefit from this "feature". This disparity will probably cause Tiering in VF which is an ugly sight, especially when it comes to new players.

like you said theres a fine line between fantasy and reality, bounce is a bit too much fantasy for me. especially when they lauch a whole character length high. Low punch scoop is definately not the same thing, because you need to discuss everything in relativity.

Again I dont see any benefit in the tennis ball bounce feature, and it only causes more balancing problems.

Theres always this game called tekken if you like bounce and flashy nonsense. I hear they have some boxing kangaroos and pandas too.

I see your point with Wolf and Goh not being the type of characters that would typically excel at “bouncingâ€Â, compared to say Jeffry and Pai (from what I’ve seen so far anyway). Yet I have faith that Sega wouldn’t implement a system that would blatantly ostracise some characters but improve the others. I think they learnt their lesson with Taka in VF3.

My guess is that these bounce combos will either be scaled down in damage or certain moves will be tweaked to lessen their combo potential. Maybe the weight system will be applied to characters like it is in regular float combos...

Heck, Sega may remove the feature altogether before VF5 is released. It’s similar to my gripe with Eileen’s damage potential; we just have to wait till the game is officially released…

Then we can make clear judgements one way or the other. If you don’t like the look of bouncing from an aesthetic perspective too, then I feel for you.

There's a really entertaining Lei v. Lei clip up, along with some interesting stepping from Edo Maru (either failed DM is really short, or it can be cancelled by just about anything).

is is just me, or do most of the costumes seem pretty similar in nature?

I'm sure that once items/colors come into play, we'll see a lot of variety, but for now, it just seems like there was a lack of creativity making these. No lumberjack or fisherman costumes for Wolf/Jeffry, no real racing outfit for Jacky? Something more feminine for Vanessa maybe? Some are pretty neat, I just feel they could have been more creative

Since they bothered to break w/ the long tradition of only 2, I figured they'd have gone all out. It's a lot of work for basically a mundane showing IMO. There aren't even any funny versions.

I don't wish to be offensive, but... If you think that that reason is double bnounce in one combo, then ok. If you think about the damage... Jeffry can do minimally the same guaranteed damage (108 pts) from this throw in VF4E.

about 50 releases on HK vf site.
can anyone find the source of the ZXX clips

about the costumes, i think they're a good starting point to work from. In a leifei vs sarah clip i saw today, she has a completely different leather outfit shown from the original 1p

    mystery gator 1p outfit

    3p costume with jacket removed

hopefully there will be more unique costumes to unlock, like the shirtless items for guys.

Yeah, with that amount of customization, you don't need the greatest variety to begin with(even though it's nice). What differentiates the basic version of these outfits from the ones in other games are that they're still fitting the style of the character. I'd love to see Aoi with another bottom, but the hakama is important in aikijutsu and that's why it's always there.

I have to agree that some of them are very similiar, though...like Eileen C, D and Brad A, C and so...

If anything im more worried about the US home release. They will limit customization for sure /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I have a feeling this costume wont make it to the US home version

should we already somehow start a petition against SOA?

Yeah, I was thinking along those same lines too. Though, it’s not so for everyone in my opinion. Some characters have a range of sorts, as I’ve always wished for; Akira, Brad, El Blaze, Eileen Goh, Pai, Sarah and to a much lesser extent Vanessa each have an outfit for a specific occasion.

By this I mean they have a “combat†costume that reflects either the traditions of their martial art or something that they could feasibly fight in:

    Akira: <font color="green">A</font>
    Brad: <font color="blue">B</font>
    El Blaze: <font color="green">A</font>
    Eileen: <font color="green">A</font>
    Goh: <font color="green">A</font>
    Pai: <font color="green">A</font>
    Sarah: <font color="green">A</font>

Then you have the "fancy" costume; something flashy or iconic to the character’s design:

    Akira: <font color="blue">B</font>
    Brad: <font color="green">A</font>
    El Blaze: <font color="red">C</font>
    Eileen: <font color="yellow">D</font>
    Goh: <font color="yellow">D</font>
    Pai: <font color="blue">B</font>
    Sarah: <font color="blue">B</font>

Third, you have the "casual" category; “jeans and a t-shirt†or whatever the character’s would wear day to day if you will:

    Akira: <font color="yellow">D</font>
    Brad: <font color="red">C</font>
    El Blaze: <font color="blue">B</font>
    Eileen: <font color="red">C</font>
    Goh: <font color="red">C</font>
    Pai: <font color="yellow">D</font>
    Sarah: <font color="red">C</font>

Finally there’s the "outlandish" costume; something bizarre and/or overly fancy in nature:

    Akira: <font color="red">C</font>
    Brad: <font color="yellow">D</font>
    El Blaze: <font color="yellow">D</font>
    Eileen: <font color="blue">B</font>
    Goh: <font color="blue">B</font>
    Pai: <font color="red">C</font>
    Sarah: <font color="yellow">D</font>

With the above character’s you have a decent selection depending on your tastes in relation to the character’s personality. While on the other hand I believe the other characters follow more closely along themes:

    Aoi: Kimono/Hakama/Japanese themed.
    Jacky: Racer/Casual themed.
    Jeffry: Rugged beach-ware/NHB combat themed.
    Kage: Ninja gi/Ninja armour themed.
Lau: Ornate Kung Fu pyjama/Ancient Chinese military themed.
    Lei-Fei: Shaolin themed.
    Lion: Casual themed.
Shun: Ornate Kung Fu pyjama themed.
Vanessa: Military/Law enforcement themed. However with the exception of a casual costume in the form of option <font color="yellow">D</font>.
    Wolf: Native Canadian/Wrestling themed.

That’s my take on the costumes. To be honest, it’s not so bad, in fact I think it’s great that we have multiple costumes at all beyond the old <font color="blue">1P</font> and <font color="red">2P</font> choices. I made little use of the character items in VF4 because I found them far too zany and crass (What the heck do I want with a squirrel on my shoulder?!).

At least in this instance there’s greater variety or, if that’s your bag; more of what you already appreciate. I’d hope that Sega would add an additional <font color="purple">E</font> costume for each character in the PS3 version that’s completely different from what’s currently available, but that would probably be asking for too much…

wolf and jeff now have a full circular(?) high roundhouses.

actually it's probably the first full circular move they ever had.

so, seems catching evaders has come into play better, and it looks nice on guard, from what i remember which im too lazy to check again~ /versus/images/graemlins/smirk.gif, i assume it's the same way you use goh's~

the dash-in evade looks like it cant have much ..... use o__O, mabye to get a quick side attack / throw? i guess seeing as side hit propoties have come into play more also

    P.S, ~ wolf's new barge move looks sweeeeeeeeet, it's like his VF2 b,fp~

EDIT: OMG~!!! wolf vs kage ~~ wolf grabs kage and throws him low launch ~TFT style hahahahhahaa~!
