Many of these choices are just way way too old. These VFcharacters are in thier 20's and 30's

we cant have 5o year olds playing pai, and akira and lei fei

I think it would have to be a bunch of unknowns. And the casting would mean nothing without a solid script and director. VF the game works from the inside out, no frills , no flash, all substance, so i would hope the same for a movie.

Akira isn't in his 20's or 30's. He was born in 1968, making him 45 years old. Having an actor in their early 50's playing him wouldn't be totally rediculous. And Pai isn't in her 20s, she's 38. Thats as near 40 as makes no difference. Although Michelle Yeaoh is probably still too old to paly her at 49.

The characters aren't as young as I think you two think they are. Remember the VF series is 20 years old and the character bios haven't been changed to keep them the same age.

Here are all the characters' ages that I can find bios for, in order of age:

Really only Aoi, Jean, Lion and Eileen are too young to realsitically be played by anyone 40+. And I'd argue the ones 45 and over could potentially be played by people in their 50's if you got the right people. I mean I've met plenty of people in their 50's who could pass for being in their 40's.

 

Bolo Yeung? Although he is 66 so definately too old. And he looks nothing like Akira, not even slightly. He has a face made for playing villains.

I know she's in her 50's now, but if someone made a VF movie back in the late 80's/early 90's Cynthia Rothrock would have been perfect for Sarah...

 

He he!! For Sarah, Cynthia Rothrock was the first name that popped into my head but, as you say, she's pretty old now and also currently looks like a transsexual.

 

I don't think those fictional birth dates are relevant, the VF5 series is just a few years shy of being 10 year old and none of the characters have changed visually since Vanilla. Ignore the fact that these characters are fictional and half of them were created in 1993 for a sec, does it look like Akira aged 8 years from Vanilla to FS to you?

Anyway, Pai being played by someone in their 40's or 50's would look wrong. Visually she's no older than late 20's and if anyone were to play her in a movie then the actors similarity to the character would be more important than a fictional number someone made up to pad out an instruction manual.

No, true. But nor does he look like he's still in his mid 20's (which he was in VF1). To me looks mid-to-late 30's, possibly 40 if he was one of those people who aged really well. Even Pai looks older than she did in VF2, although admittedly she doesn't look 38 either.

Also, within the game's story I don't think 8 years is supposed to have passed between VF5 and VF5:FS. They might even be the same tournament, but I'm not sure about that. I don't know how much time is meant to have passed between VF1 and VF5 but I'm guessing more than 5 years considering how much they aged Lau's appearance, even taking his illness into account. But yeah, that would make the characters at least 8 years younger than their bios say. I'm not sure what my point is now exactly...I think I partially agree with you whilst also partially disagreeing with you lol.

As far as I know, between VF1 (1993) and VF4 (2001) the time of game release was the same as time of respective VF tournament fluff-wise. But then it stopped working. VF5 (2006) is supposed to take place "few months after VF4" (2001). VF5 and VF5FS are probably one tournament, as well as VF4/VF4E/VF4FT are.
What means the "VF-time" is still 2001, maybe 2002. What changes few things and make chars age match their in-game appearance
