I had marz and it was fun, not quite as deep as the old school VO though. The duel sticks worked great though. It felt close to what it was like using duel joysticks like the arcade.

yeah it was released on PC. they hype needle almost got to the "ehn" point which was surprising.

here's good news: it's an M2 game and therefore nicely emulated by Nebula! It is also a verified LAN game, having native network support that has been adapted for use in both linked and internet play like Daytona.

Hang on, back up. Netplay Daytona? I'm so there.

Or better yet, Sega release it on XBLA.

honestly you'd be better off getting the emulator and then rigging up the twin sticks for it.

    A) you can find the emulator and roms, really hard to find the PC version (if I still have my copy you're welcome to it)
    B) the emulator is more accurate
    C) it's online, son. I can't remember but I don't think the PC version is.

VO Marz was a home port of "VO Force" on the arcade, a much slower team battle orientated version of VOOT with a few new characters and some tweaks to the existing cast. What made Marz stand out was its story mode and the addition of character variants that had different stats or even weapons that the player could choose from.

I never played it myself but friends who were into VO at the time said that they preferred VOOT by far. I personally didn't like the look of the designs (Cypher>Myzer).

Does anyone know for sure if we're getting a port of the arcade version or rather the DC version with a v5.66 upgrade? I've seen some screenshots and they don't look like arcade quality to me (the lighting isn't as detailed imo).

Regardless, this is a nice surprise! And considering how much money I use to spend in the arcade 1200 Microsoft points is a steal.

If VOOT can get a port then perhaps there's hope for other old gems like Last Bronx...

A lot of people feel like that about Marz.

I never played anything but VOOM...so I can't comment on anything that came subsequent. VOOM was on the DC, right?

    YAAFI.

VO-OM was on the Saturn. VO-OT was on the DC.

I loved both VOOM and VOOT. The VOOM scene in Sydney was pretty huge actually (old schoolers may remember SydVOC), and I remember starting from the very bottom and had to learn everything the hard way. I got to the point where single frame cancels were next to nature (my main was Temjin), and would be lucky enough to win a tournament now and then. We pretty much had an expert with every character in our scene, and Friday nights in the arcade, playing VOOM for hours, was a blast.

There were certain cheap things in VOOM that were sorely looked down upon, and probably had an unspoken-ban placed on them. Particulary, crouch rifle against Viper and Feiyen in close/medium quarters was pretty much a guaranteed hit, and then the dreaded crouch grenade/bomb against Viper and Fei in close quarters did massive damage due to their low armour.

When VOOT came out, many people didn't take a liking to it for one reason or another, so the scene suffered dramatically until it was no more. But I really liked it and, to be honest, struggle to remember the things I didn't like (was it easier to play machi?). VOOT had some advanced close quarter sword techniques that, just as I was getting the hang of, everyone stopped playing.

I had it (VOOT) on my DC with twinsticks and enjoyed some local matches for a (way too) short time. I was even geeky enough to take my winter white temjin on my VMU with me to the arcade!

Now I look forward to perhaps reliving those great experiences again.

Well, to be honest....since VO series has more or less been DOA...I am looking forward to playing any incarnation.
