Does anybody know if it'll be possible to download VOOT from the japanese marketplace, and then unlock it on an american GT?

You might be able to if you already have a Japanese account, however Sega has confirmed that VOOT will be released in the West.

Yeah, I'm finding it real hard to connect to anybody. I'm guessing 80% (maybe even 90%) of people playing now are from Japan.

Trying to relearn how to play using a twinstick method (I used to play this on default DC setup). Analogs for movement and buttons for turbos and triggers for weapons. Holding the controller in this fashion is so foreign to me. I really hate the X360 pad. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif

I've played it now for two nights and I'm really loving it. The biggest pain was getting the hang of the joypad. I'm using the dual analog setup for movement, and it's really painful using the index and middle fingers for turbo and weapon, rather than thumb and index. The clunky xbox joypad just wasn't designed to be held this way. After the first night I started to get cramps in my fingers, but on the second night it felt a bit better and I was getting more used to it.

I really like the online lobby system they implemented and it would have been great if VF had something like this! I'm also really surprised at how playable my 1-bar connections are to Japan.

Seems to me that the entire online lobby interface is the same as VF5's. Only difference is they made it so you can see other people hosting games while you are and it sorts them by connection.

Also i've been really suprised at how playable matches with Japs are, they come up as grey bars but hardly notice much lag.... Wish VF5 was like that /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

Yeah, I know what you mean. The great thing is that you can host and search/browse for sessions at the same time. Such a small thing but immensely valuable IMO. I used to hate hosting in VF, and still do, because you can't do anything in the meantime to reduce the amount of time it takes to actually play.

As for the lag, well, the demand on frame dependent inputs in a game like VF is much higher than something like VOOT. I'm sure the lag is still there, but I just don't think it's as noticeable in a game like this.

I've only had one match with Japan where the lag was noticable, and even then I've seen far worse in other games.

My biggest gripe with the online is that there's no quick rematch option when you use the Xbox Live Party mode in Player Match (or at least I haven't seen one). You have to keep sending invites to the other players which gets a bit tedious. Hopefully they might sort that out.

I cant seem to get the hang of this game and therefore Im not very excited. Its nice that old games like this get published again in xbl though.

I like this game a lot, but I don't seem to *get* it in the slightest. No matter how much I play or how many advanced techniques I learn about, I get crushed non-stop. Invite me to play if you want to feel good about yourself!

Thanks for putting the link here. Are the guides over at gamefaqs.com for the Dreamcast version worthwhile? I can't get to gamegaqs from work. (But I can access VFDC-- stange.)

Yeah, the Dreamcast VOOT FAQs should apply pretty much, especially if you're starting out.

Also check out the forums at http://www.oratan.com which are filled with goodness.

Which VRs do you guys use?

I use mainly use Temjin, Specineff, Grys-Vok and sometimes Apharmd B. I may have to start using Dordray now that I've learnt that he has a throw.

Can anyone here use Bal-Bados properly? Setting up his limbs around the arena is fun (Pyramid Trap is awesome too) but I can't use him outside of practice mode.
