But as for the rest of VF, I stopped playing console and arcade games because of Starcraft (which will always be better than VF any day).

SF2. I was really excited about champion edition and SSF2 and SSF2T.

I was a little into alpha1 when a friend showed me VF2, then I slowly drifted from alpha and into VF. Especially when they fixed/changed chain combos and alpha counters, which made the game scrubby and easy for a guy to casually jump in and hang with good players.

Karate Champ, maybe Kung Fu (though that was not a fighting game....shit...I've always been a fighting game fan.

Street fighter2 was the first fighting game to grab my attention. Vf1 was ok, but when I saw Vf2 and Pai was screaming(why did Am2 take that out), I fell in love with the game.

Looking back now, this is how I would class all the good 3D fighting games I've played.

    First gen. :

    1) Toshinden
    2) Tekken
    3) VF1

    Second gen. :

    1) Tekken 2
    2) VF2 ; Tobal #1 ; Soulblade
    3) DOA
    4) Street Fighter 2 EX
    5) Toshinden 2

    Third gen. :

    1) Soulcalibur
    2) Tekken 3
    3) VF3 ; Tobal 2
    4) DOA2
    5) Rival Schools
    6) Powerstone

    Present gen. :

    1) VF4evo
    2) SC2 ; TTT
    3) Tekken 4
    4) Hmm... DOA3 I guess, since the rest is garbage.

P.S. I wonder what new gamplay aspects and ideas the next batch of 3D fighting games are going to bring to the table ?

Soul Calibur 2 has 3 special character based upon the system version you buy.

Gamecube = Link (Plays similar to Sophitia with better projectile ability)
PS2 = Heihachi (Plays just like Tekken 4, but AI kills his juggles)
X-box = Spawn (Plays nice, very overpowered, and unique.)

All three game are exactly the same minus special characters if content and controls are your concern. If you're interested in graphics, then the X-Box is your choice. Gamecube rules when it comes to load times. The PS2 version I think is the worst of the bunch, but that in no way says it is a bad version.

SC2 Gamecube = Fast load times, Link, and Hori makes a nice stick for it. Downside is graphics are a touch fuzzy at times.

SC2 PS2 = Crisp graphics, Heihachi, and Hori makes a nice joystick for it. Downside is graphics are plagued with "Jaggies" and load times are slowest of all releases.

SC2 X-Box = Beautiful graphics, Spawn, and good load times. Downside is crappy choice of joysticks unless you buy an adapter or custom stick.

You can't go wrong with any version not matter what any fanboy wants to say.

Hey Replicant, thanks for the breakdown. Looks like Xbox for me - and if you like the Xbox controller as I do, then there really isn't any downside to the Xbox version of SC2! And, I gotta have Spawn - SPAWN screens for SCII

I have all three consoles, so I could get all three versions if I REALLY wanted to play Heihachi or link, but the only extra character I really care about is Spawn, so Xbox will do just fine for me.

Oh yeah, Heihachi is real "special" all right, not to bring up the past, but he really is an awful choice for another character, and they already have Yoshimitsu anyways, *sigh* /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif

He has no weapons, and is not even close to being as cool as some of the Sony licensed characters anyways, and even non Sony characters, Lol it would have been so funny if the GTA3 dude was in it. /versus/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Personally I think Mr. Driller would have been a better choice. I think of the console characters Link is the coolest. Spawn? I don't know did they pick him because he was on some exclusive crappy xbox title, aside from the Mcfairlain connection with Necrid?

Its just a cheap gimmick because SC2 can't beat VFEVo's greatness. Apparently in OPM SC2 is the deepest most fun creative fighter ever. It will cure cancer and teach your kids to read. I enjoy it but I eagerly anticipate the US Evo much more.

Yes it is a gimmick. I think Spawn is lame and if I wanted to use Heihachi I will put in TTT. But I think that type of thing goes very well with SC 2. Can't beat VF's gameplay, so have to go for the eye candy, etc. Guess you can't expect a casual gamer to be able to handle something as deep as VF, its just too much for their minds to handle and without all the bells and whistles they won't think its "good". It's going to make me furious when SC 2 is released and just about everyone will be praising it as the best fighter ever. I just about can't pick up a magizine or go to a website without people already claiming that, makes me sick. Yea, thats funny Barto, I read that issue of OPM too. They said its the deepest fighter ever and its deeper than the previous deepest fighter, SC lol, because guard impacts, ground, and air juggles are easier to do. Like those weren't already easy to do. Guess it they want to give the average brain dead gamer the illusion they are doing something awesome.

Who cares whether a reviewer says "it's better than evo ; the best game ever..." ! It's his opinion and there ain't shit you can do about it. What's important is what game you think is the best.

SC2 is a very good fighting game. Better than evo. ? I dunno about that but it's still a very good game. If you don't even give it a shot and sleep on it, I guarantee you'll miss out big time. C'mon guys we're not talking about Tao Feng for crying outloud, we're talking about SC2 !!!

I know its a good game, I played Soul Edge and SC a ton. But I grew to a point where I thought, why play this when there are better games like VF 4 or even TTT
