I believe their choice of Kage (Tetra also used Kage vs Adam in quarterfinal but didnt do so well) had something to do with distancing. Maybe Adam had trouble with distancing and they tried to capitalize with that, or something. Obviously their playstyle with Kage was mostly poking and punishing whiffs from distance. And the potential of ringouts of course too.

I couldnt do Kage's combos on Jeffrey... I only practiced 2hrs before trying Kage on Adam. My vanessa is close to 50/50 with Adam with Adam in the upperhand. Adam is strong along with his character match up against my van. So I had to try Kage or some other character /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

Danny and I used Kage because we knew Adam is weak against Kage. Not knowing a bunch of his frames. We could also ring out him half the time cos his throw breaks isnt that good(same with us lol).

double palm is minus 15 and easily punishable... free damage. Elbow is only minus 4 i believe... at least it's safe and I can still fuzzy. Akira can't just be throwing out double palms like candy.

BLACKLAC, yeah, the commentary is just awesome, those punches and throws and kicks... I loled hard /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Anyway, no offense to the opponent, but it looked a bit like crouching and juggle practice /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Danny is probably the best person to answer that question, but my guess is the following...

    - Danny first of all is a GREAT Kage player. He has played Kage as a secondary/tertiary character since VF4 and is extremely comfortable with him.

    - Kage is a really good tournament character - top tier, safe moves, easy to execute (unlike Akira), R.O. potential, etc.

    - Kage is a tough match-up for Jeffry whereas Jeffry is a tough match-up for Akira. (Also the reason Tetra used Kage against Adam...Vanessa like Lion is a terrible match-up against Jeffry).

    - As for Itazan...would it have mattered which character one uses? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif Maybe Danny just wanted to try something different after having played against Itazan with Akira many times.

I missed Wilson's post, but that'll be the official reason Kage was used. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Just watched Danny vs. Adam...Danny's use of /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif and OM-P...brilliant!

We woke up at 7am that morning to have a quick breakfast and focus on helping Tetra's game against Adam. Tetra isn't so strong on Kage's combos vs heavies so we spent the whole morning letting him get used to it. We didn't even allow others like Krye, Manjimaru or Wugga to play!

Since we were already developing on strategies to beat Jeffrey using Kage plus I didn't expect that quarter finals and semi finals would be played on the same day, I decided to use Kage as well, focusing on playing totally different from Tetra. Kage is my 2nd character anyway.

I picked Kage against Itazan as it was really difficult to play against shun on a best to 5 setting and THERE are many times that Itazan does not do throw escapes. You can see from the video that I managed to ring him out once. I decided to capitalize on that.

hehe! I called it! I knew the switch was because Jeff owns Akira.

Any way good stuff again on everyone parts! Congrats to all. I am very jealous I couldn't be there. I was really looking forward to a Danny(Akira) vs. Adam's Jeff match up though. I wanted to see how a stronger Akira player does and hopefully learn a trick or two.

Danny any advice you can give a struggling Akira player? I'm seriously thinking about really pulling a switch nation here.

I dont know about you, but I felt much more confident against Adams Jeff than against many other characters out there. This is because against Jeff my attacks actually hit instead of magically whiffing due to some VF5 'feature' /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I suspect you have big trouble simply because Adam knows you so well, you have played a long time together I reckon.

Yeah that could be it, because I don't feel half as helpless against any other Jeff, but still I am sure there are tons of options / possibilities I haven't explored yet.

Nonsense! Akira has the upper hand against Jeffrey. Just ask Adam how many 42p+g > 66k > dlc combos and 43p+g > bodychecked(back crumple) > 66kk I pulled off on him. The latter was specially reserved against Adam *wink, who knows how to get out of it already and the risk involved when that happens.

Krye should have taken some of my akira vs Adam jeffrey vids.

Wow! Now I really wish I saw those matches. This really sucks that there is no footage! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif
Then I guess Adam just knows me to well and I need to work harder and develop some new skills.

I personally feel super comfortable against Akira - anyone's Akira. It's just such a straighforward matchup, which i love. I really wouldn't say Akira has the upper hand. In my opinion, the matchup leans slightly towards Jeff.

Yes, those 42P+G & 43P+G were an annoyance, but i wasn't too concerned. It was easy to land the 1 or 2 knees that i needed against your super agressive Akira. Also, K - cancel --> throw FTW!!! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

But yes Rodney, you defintely should use those combos that Danny mentioned. That 43P+G one is especially @!#%~!%.

That Kage tourney match did open up my eyes though. After learning some of the guaranteed stuff, i fared much better in the casuals afterwards. Alas, too little, too late. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Adam I watched the vids and theirs one thing you didn't do to often that you usually do after blocking kage attacks and that was Shot knee 4K. I guess since it was a tournament you 2p a little more then normal even after blocking -5 moves. Danny was using OM P and kage's double handed 3 P+K move quite often to much success which I believe he did to capitalize on your 2p habit you developed in the tourney. I was expected you would scared him with Shot knee (which you usually do) to stop his offensive after a -5 move is blocked. You played nicely however despite that

Superb play from Danny however I was hoping you would of used Akria I heard great things about your Akria.

Adam's jeff is the most abare jeff I've every played. 3k on guard -11 still do knee. knee on guard I do p,k, he does another knee, i do another p,k, he does ANOTHER knee still. This seriously mind fucks your oppponent which was what happened to Wonhee(Korean) who ate more MC knee than the delicious sausages I ate in Germany.

Anyway Adam, it was really emotional for me when I first saw you at the doorsteps of the German room after 6 solid years. I hope you get even stronger and lets do the team tourney thing in Japan!

My report of the whole WCG Germany is almost complete. Stay tuned!
