I think WCG has a while to go before its anything close to professionaly run so something like this probably wouldn't really hurt their image. A world championship on a game that is broken with lag or how about the round count for last years tournament? Cmon now :p

    Hey Adam,
You mentioned we need not only SS# but also an American passport / citizenship. How about resident only?? I'm a resident but I haven't lived enough time to apply a citizenship. Can I still join the US final with sponsor? All I want is to travel and hang out with you guys, that's it.

hmmm, im gonna be with LA on this one.

when he forfeits his final match, the next person in line should take his place, that person couldn't have been any scrub to get where he is, so theres no fears of a "nobody" taking the top spot. besides, like LA said lets help him out.

edit: what's gonna be the headache if he forfeits? how bad is the scenario going to be? maybe i'm missing something.

That's why I said that WCG tries to emulate the Olympics. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif It's OK to shoot for the stars and fail. They'll eventually get it right. It's an ambitious goal after all.

Fair enough. In principle, I'm in agreement with you. The online qualifiers aren't a good way to seed players, but it's the most efficient way from the perspective of WCG, which has finite resources and a lot of other games to deal with.

Well, I agree with this point.
But we can't change anything and the only solution is that Yosuke needs to contact and deal with WCG.

This is what i don't get. "Help" him out? How? They didn't let people even map buttons last year, as Denkai said, so they should change rules that are set in stone for all games - just because players from the least popular game that they showcase, demand them to? We're lucky that our game is even showcased!

If it were possible to "change" these rules, then yes, i'm all for it! Let yosuke compete! However, given my dealings with WCG the past year, they are quite strict about rules regarding eligibility - especially at the level of the Grand Finals. Let's just keep things in perspective here.

Dennis - I'm not sure bro. I think it's OK if you are resident. However, if you win the Nationals in California, they will ask you whether you have an American Passport. I will check with Paul Brewer and let you know, OK?

FYI - Andy (CrewNYC aka chigger) tried to compete for a spot on the team representing China last year, but they refused him! They told him that he needed a Chinese passport.

This is where its silly. Pad player cant map buttons but the game is played best 5 out of 7 where shun rules. Cmon! hahaa

Until they have offline east and west qualifiers like evo did in 2007, im never gonna take VF for the WCG seriously. Neither will players like phoenixDth and GoatCheeseBlues, etc.

I think Yosuke should drop out. These citizen/passport rules don't appear to be negotiable. There's nothing personal about this.

So does that mean dennis needs to forfeit his spot too?

I understand. I too want offline qualifiers. I play A LOT better offline. However, I will not deny that WCG is a very cool experience (especially at the Nationals & Grand Finals level). It gave me another chance to see and hang out with all of my VF brethren.

We have SoCal, NYG, and WCG. God - it's a pretty good time to be playing VF! I get to see you guys 3 fucking times a year!

If anyone is not eligible now or ESPECIALLY when it comes time for the USA finals, I think they should drop out. The outcome of the tournaments won't make sense if an ineligible person wins.

NOTE: I will benefit if Dennis0201 forfeits his spot.

Thank you. If Dennis wins the Nationals, I think he can claim the money since he is a resident, but he may be screwed when it comes to having to fly to China to compete in the World Finals.

I will find out for Dennis ASAP.

It bears repeating what Talis said: It's not personal.

I'm not getting involved in this, because ALL of this could have been avoided it Yosuke has just simply taken my advice and contacted WCG the moment I mentioned how this whole scenario would play out.

At fight club when I found out that we had the choice to not let Yosuke compete I was completely against the idea of denying him the chance to play. First reason being because I know him and consider him a friend. Second reason is because Yosuke has done a lot for me in terms of making me a better player and I treasure all of that information.

Now look at where we are because Yosuke refuses to do what is right which is a very simple task. He needs to contact WCG as I mentioned, explain his situation and find out if he is eligible. I'm sure his main reason for not contacting WCG is because he probably thinks that we do not want him to compete, but I can assure he is wrong. The reason people have a problem with it is simple because he is being stubborn and he is denying someone, or many people who he has already faced a chance at winning one of the qualifiers. What is Rayblade got so pissed off by all this that he decided to drop out of the other qualifiers? Sure we could say he is being a little bitch, but try to understand the frustration that this is breeding because again Yosuke is not respecting the rules. I can assure you even if he wins the Nationals he will need a Social Security number to get paid and in regards to travel he will need 1 of 2 things. First he will either need to be a US Citizen, which he clairly is not. Second he will need to be either a Permanent Resident Alien (like me) who has the rights to work, live and travel back and forth between the US. On top of being a Permanent Resident that is not all you will need to travel. Depending on what country WCG will hold there finals, Yosuke will then need to visit the Consulate General for that country either here in New York City or if they have one upstate where he is located to apply for a Visa to visit that country. During the application process he will need to provide all sorts of documents which can vary from a simple birth certificate to criminal records if he has ever gotten in trouble with the law. The Consulate General will then review the application and make the final call on whether they will let him visit there country. He may even have to get WCG to write a special invitation letter. I know all this because this is exactly the bullshit I had to go through just to visit Japan for that Beat Tribe event we went through a few years back. Let's say I get lucky and I win the Nationals this year. This is exactly what I will have to go through to participate in the finals. So Dennis to answer you question this is most likely what you would have to go through as well. This is why I said last year even if I won the finals I probably would not go to Germany, because I don't feel like being bother with all this bullshit.

So now everyone should have a better understand of the original statement I made to Yosuke weeks ago about Fight Club.

Yosuke continue to play if you want, but the longer you refuse to find out where you stand on this tournament the more people you are going to piss off. No one is against you because if we were we would have stopped you at fight club.

Does anyone have a link to actual printed rules about this? So far all I've seen posted is hearsay.

I personally think it's a great thing that yosuke and dennis are playing. Like LA and sudden said, when either one of them get to the point where wcg officials tell them they cant advance, deal with it then. Whoever's the replacement (2nd place) should be obvious - if dennis isnt allowed to go to nationals, plague gets his spot. It's not like by them being in the online brackets they take up space that someone else would have wanted, there are plenty of holes in the brackets.

Ray's behavior has nothing to do with yosuke not respecting the rules. From my point of view, he got pissed cause yosuke didnt wait around for him to show up late. . . and yet ray was totally unwilling to make schedule concessions to allow dennis to play in the first qualifier's finals. Ray, you seemed like an ok guy in person, but rules lawyering cuts both ways - don't dish it out if you cant take it.

We are trying to help Yosuke out.

This will only happen AFTER the event KOD after both players have already traveled to LA to compete for the grand final. WCG isn't going to search their online brackets and email the players they believe do not have a SS#,passport individually especially when they do not have proof until when the officials met you in PERSON.

It's starting to look like the ones arguing against us are the ones who think little of WCG as an organization. To you guys it seems like we're the villains here but all in all we are trying to prevent trouble and time..it's really not that hard for him to just figure it out on his own and contact them..that's all we're saying

I don't have a link to the printed rules. Everything I've stated has been verbally told to me by the operations personnel.

But, as some have stated, the onus is on Yosuke & Dennis to find out if they are eligible. Simply blazing ahead and completely disregarding what others are saying is kind of disrespectful in itself.

Here's a cut and paste from last years player packet for the nationals:

    <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">
It is highly suggested that all competitors competing in the National Finals submit the necessary
paperwork to obtain a valid passport, as one will be required to travel to Germany. Obtaining a passport
can take a considerable amount of time, so please keep this in mind when making arrangements to
    acquire yours.

    Required Forms
Note that a digital W-9 and parental consent forms are included along with this information packet. A
completed W-9 will be required at registration in order for a player to play in the tournament and
receive the travel stipend. Parental consent forms must also be filled out by players under 18, and
signed by a legal guardian. </div></div>

It says A passport, not a US passport.

It says w9. you do not need a social security number to fill out a w9. resident aliens can use w-9, foreign citizens can use w-8 for basically the same thing, its just covering wcg's ass on taxes.

Tax consequences are totally separate from eligibility, and if wcg requires people to be citizens to be eligible to play in the tourney, they need to do a fuck of a lot better job of letting people know that, cause there is no info i've been able to find anywhere on their site or in the player packets regarding eligibility.

    Thanks man!! I'll appreciate that~
Actually I don't care about that further going to China coz I don't think I'm qualified. All I want to is get a free ticket to travel either LA or NY this year!!!

    Plague,
Sorry I don't know thing is going like this. Last time Ray checked with me about SS# and I think I'm okay plus I have a green card already. If the final result points out I have to forfeit and I will, don't worry.
