I don't think people had ill will against you, at least the ones who know you in person.

WCG isn't very clear with their rules. They don't communicate it well to the players. Knowing that the qualifiers are used to figure out who will represent the US in China. Since you are not a citizen or permanent resident, it may pose a problem or disappointments later on. You're time may very well be wasted.

This didn't really matter if you just wanted to play for the sake of competition. But it also brought up the question of whether you are taking up a spot of someone who is genuinely interested in representing the US. It's a valid point in principle. I don't think it should be taken personally.

In the end the only group of people who can disqualify you from competing is WCG. They haven't and according to the e-mails they won't stop you from participating. That's all that matters really. So carry on with the games.

Well, I could see some of people here definitely don't want Yosuke to gets prize money or join to the tournament.

I will not say who was tring to say that, but I felt in that way. However, this is just my opinion, I may be true, but I may not...

Can I say something from my opinion?

Like Oioron said, WCG isn't clear with their rules, so if someone who doesn't want Yosuke to get win prize money, they can say "Oh hey, he isn't American, can he really get prize money?" something like this.

And whenever if someone said this, someone...especially players who will have to fight in the future, have to check that out no matter what. Beucase win prize money is pretty important for the tournament even if it isn't very high prize money.

If Yosuke was me, win prize money is very important for me. I honestly wanted join to this tournament, but I've been pretty busy, and I couldn't join to the tournament, because my 360 got a broke, and I didn't get new one yet. However, I'm not Yosuke, so I don't know that he feels in this way.

But if there is no win prize money, I would not join to the tournament for sure. I may join to the tournament for just have a fun, but I'm not sure.

Well this is my opinion, I wanted to say something else, but I forgot what I wanted to say. haha

Well this opinion might be bullshit for Americans, but let you try to think about this again if possible.

Part of the rules of WCG at that time was no mapping of buttons.

There are quite a few of us who actually care about not only the cash, but also representing Team USA (sorry Sal & Monty, it's the truth!). Last year in Germany was just amazing, and you bet your ass that if my schedule allows this year, I will do everything in my power to represent USA again. It was a lot of fun!

Yosuke, $3000 is a lot of money to some, and can you blame people from not wanting you to play?! You're the best player in the US, and you stand in their way of getting this much needed cash. (Even you made it clear from the beginning, that you were competing mainly for the cash!) So, of course they would rather you not participate, especially if you're not eligible! It is nothing personal towards you.

Denkai is a friend of ours, and we made sure that he was not allowed to map buttons last year, but he understood this, and didn't really complain. He knows he would have done the same. It has nothing to do with "trusting" one's skill, and everything to do with minimizing the other person's chances, while maximizing one's own. You may not agree with this way, but I'm just trying to get you to understand the mind-set of many competitive players in the US. They actually care about the outcome, especially since $3000 is involved, and not to mention the possibility of more money (and not to mention the great atmosphere) at the World Finals in China.

Competitive attitudes are obviously different between Eastern & Western players. I'm familiar with both "ways", but I don't necessarily think one way is better than the other. I don't think you should either. While it may be hard for you to get used to this "American" competitiveness, it may be best for you to adapt to it while you are here. Japanese players like Shota, Hiro, and Kazu (who are all gone now) all eventually adapted to the VF "norms" here, and were able to make the best of their VF time in the US.

Please don't take what I've written above the wrong way. I too wanted to express what I was feeling.

I understand that everyone wants to avoid playing good players as much as possible in the tournament. I said that the way they wrote on the thread was not understandable to me. (I don't know to other players though) why do I have to think of losers?

I made it clear why I am competing mainly for the cash is that I think the tournament is small, and nothing is exciting.(sorry to say this) Since it is a competition, I am not supposed to say "I play like lnstructing other players when I play them," I needed to make a reason to play it. Rather than that, there is no reason to play it here whether I am eligible or not. Not only this tournament, but all tournament in the US. well, $3000 is a lot of money to everyone, but as you know, I am studying here spending my parents money, so it really does not matter. Unfortunately(?), everything I do in the US is based on the parents money.
It depends on the schedule, but there is still a possibility that I might go(if it is held during my summder break). booking 3 days of a hotel and getting a flight ticket is almost the same to me. he said he can cover the cost of hotel, but not flight cost.

outcomes are important. I understand. talking of this, I just wondered why he said that. I mean, you know? if the tournament had been held with an arcade console, I competely agree with you. However, it was held with XBOX360, right? Sega ''officially'' created it for not only good players, but also beginners to control characters easily with pads. Then, why do you need to change the buttons before playing? isn't it based on contfoller setting for pad players? or, is this tournament for only professional players? Besides, did the one really needed to offer friends, denkai(and akmaal?) not to use the pad sholder. this is kind of my curiosity.

I have no clue how the other Japanese players enjoyed playing you guys since there is each way for each person to get adapted to it, but I thought I am already adapted to this community. If not, I would not tell Talis and Jerald when I can visit there, think of if we have an event during my visit, and constantly visit LA not just, but mainly to play VF. The things I hate in the US are that players who get upset/mad/angry just by losing and players who compete out of the game. Talking one's participation/pad control setting is competely outside of the game.

since I know you pretty well and you are fair enough, I don't take your comment in the wrong way. I may have wanted to say the competition is for the game, and why do you need to compete outside of the game.

I understand Yosuke and i understand Adam. In Lehman Terms for Dummies. Nobody's scared of Yosuke but you can't have Yosuke Eliminating people if he can't advance himself. I'm cool with yosuke and all and i wish him the best. But Adams right though.

Oh Yeah NO button mapping is Bullshit.

Indeed. Unfortunately, thats just how crap WCG is at these issues. Its not even funny how craptastic they are at giving out info.

Yosuke&Dennis: If you have resident status in US it propably will be okay, although I just wanted to warn you about this issue. I didnt want to spoil anyones fun, quite the contrary. I personally wouldnt want to be turned away 1 day before the trip to China after having won the national finals, just because of this little detail called passport. And it might mean no US representant at all because they will find it out in the nick of time.

also: if you do not receive any answers to your emails from WCG, DO NOT ASSUME ANYTHING. It took them months to answer my mails here in Finland. And even then the first answers were "we dont know"-sort. I wanted you to know this.

I am. More than prizemoney at least. I earn more in 2 weeks than I have ever won in any VF tourneys counted together.

No one is "hatin" on him because he is a better player. Everyone has already acknowledged that he is a stellar player. It's a matter of practicality: Yosuke was fortunate to sharpen his VF teeth in Japan, and given the competitive environment in the US, it's just not possible to get to the same level here. No matter how hard one tries to "level up, and go work at it". It's just not feasible.

It's about the paper, son. I will take advantage of every edge I get. Times is rough...and getting money to play VF is nice. "So tight, so nice." - Kazu

Amen. I know i sound like a broken record, but meeting up with VF players from all the different nations, sharing meals, and of course playing VF - it was just so...good!

This is a fact. The US or any country outside japan just doesn't have the same VF environment Japan does and that is what it's about. If we had the same environment as over there, the general level of players here would be much higher. You can play all day all night but its hard to progress by leaps and bounds when your competition is around the same level as you are or lower.

Yosuke would probably tell you the same thing.

I dislike and disappoint SEGA abandon hard core players outside of Japan since 3tb. Back to 1995, there were a lot of VF2 arcades in Taiwan, and in main arcade stores they had at least 20 regular sets in a row on "both" sides plus 4 to 5 big screen sets!!(Amazing appearance!!!)

The high tech consoles that we have today killed the arcade scene. I can play a much better looking game at home on my PS3 or 360 for pennies over the long run compared to the crap that's at arcades nowadays.

I miss those days too, Dennis.
