Im curious as to what is the situation here. Im pretty damn certain that WCG requires the competitor to have citizenship (passport) in the country he is representing. (Similar to olympics). That cant be too hard to find out can it? Its still unclear to me what passport Yosuke has?

It might have been different in the NY event, which was kind of a national event, but to qualify for the grand final you really need to be citizen of USA I think.

EDIT: I havent found from the official site any mention about rules who can participate and represent a country.. But Im pretty sure of what I said above. WCG are just masters at relaying the info and forgot that from the site.

Well, they made an exception for the NY event, because the prize was only $500. Since no taxes need to be paid on this prize, it didn't matter that Yosuke didn't have a Social Security #.

For anything over $600 (i think), the winnings must be claimed and taxes must be paid.

But yes - to qualify for the Grand Final, and even the National Finals in California, you need not only a SS#, but also an American passport / citizenship.

Yosuke - shall we play at 7pm tonight? The time is perfect for me.

Rayblade is correct. Yosuke isn't eligible to compete in the World Cyber Games to represent the USA. During the WCG NY event the officials let him slide simply because the prize was only 500 and it wasn't a requirement to tax on anything at that amount. However, the WCG officials told us it was up to us (Me,adam, Konjou akmal etc) if we wanted him to compete or not since it was stated in their rules that Yosuke cannot enter a WCG event. Even though we warned Yosuke that he might not be able to compete he came anyway and we thought it would be messed up if we agreed that he couldn't play. Theirs no exceptions in this event though he is not eligible to play in the main tournament and the officials will no longer even give us an option at that point.

Playing in the online qualifications is just taking up a spot that can actually be used for a person that is able/willing to travel to the main event. Yosuke, you should respect the rules and drop out of the online qualification out of good faith for the other players that can join.

I see no real problem with it as long as he doesn't WIN the entire thing. I mean, he could play for fun then just let the last opponent report a win even if yosuke won. Besides I highly doubt the brackets past this one are full. Last year there were only THREE people in the one I played in.

    lol whos gonna beat him?

Has anyone from the WCG told yosuke he cant compete? I'm not talking about you guys telling him, im talking about the WCG.

Until they tell him directly that he is not eligible, he should continue to play and I think some of you guys should be a little more eager to help him out. Yosuke has taught all of us ALOT about virtua fighter and if it wasnt for him and other japanese players, some of us certainly wouldnt be where we are now.

I'm actually a little surprised some people aren't trying to help yosuke out more.

That's pretty wrong imagine if Yosuke join EVO and did that, think about it. Why take out players that have the potential to win the whole thing just so he can have fun when he isn't even supposed to compete? I'm not trying to be a hater here but simply put rules are rules and him competing then dropping out on the last match is just silly. He would of changed the whole outcome of the tournament and even someone who never touched VF would the have the potential to win as long as they aren't in his bracket.

Good point. It's just hard to say "Hey you, get out of the tournament". All the brackets are connected though so I don't think someone who never touched it could win. Those 4 "winner" spots play against eachother on sunday, at least thats what Shag told me.

Yosuke loves virtua fighter. Don't you guys feel he should be allowed to enjoy something he really likes? Just seems like people want yosuke out so they can win for themselves.

Well I know I can't win it anyway, that's probably why my initial reaction was "let him play".

But looking at it from someone elses view it's more clear. Random example: Yosuke beats denkai and moves on to fight Adam in the finals. Since yosuke can't go it would be an automatic for Adam. But if he wasn't there it would've been between Adam AND denkai to see who qualified.

Like I said I've got nothing against Yosuke at all. And I still think he should keep playing. But it's really not fair to people who actually have a shot at it. It's so hard to explain this without sounding like an asshole /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

Yosukes done alot for some of us and now when we get an opportunity to help him out, we aren't doing it. Seems pretty fucked up to me.

Honestly if that was the case then he wouldn't have been playing in NYC.. since they let it up to US to let him compete. Shessh I know everyone loves each other here but come on no one cried foul when they didn't let Andy compete. I'm just relaying what they told us. Last year I couldn't button map and my skills suffered cause of it, was anyone on my side trying to support me?? no they didn't. If enough people cared I would of been able to button map but hey you guys said it was all part of the rules. Its the rules man don't assume things cause someone states them

I understand what you're saying LA - believe me, and i personally don't mind if he competes, but rules are rules. And when you get to the level of the Nationals & World Finals, they are NOT flexible. Like Manjimaru said, WCG tries to follow the template of the actual Olympics. So, i don't know how we can "help" him as you say...

In all fairness, WCG doesn't require people to provide their SS#, so they really don't know if someone is eligible. WCG hasn't told Yosuke directly, because the only way they would know is when Yosuke wins the US Nationals in California (where they will ask him whether he has an American passport), or if we caused a big stink about it - which no one has done.

No one has really escalated this (and people could if they wanted to), because we respect Yosuke. It's just that there will be a big headache in the end for everyone. And that's not cool.

Again, personally, i don't mind competing against him.
