I actually think the complete opposite of this. One of the many complaints I've seen around my parts towards the VF series is that the characters are bland and have no personality as compared to for example Tekken.

The problem is Sega's blatant ignoring of the storymode, cutscenes etc to build up the personalities. No, winning some world cup as A PLAYER doesn't cut it. If you were to put, say, Kazuya next to Akira, with no premade conception of them, nobody would give a fuck. But when you add layers of cutscenes and endings to one of them he becomes the more interesting one.

A layered personality for a character makes people want to BE that guy and PLAY that guy. It can also spark interest. At least amongst casual players. And no, this isn't about 'OMG VFZ MORE HARDCORE FUCK TEH NOOBS HAHA THEY HAVE TO HAVE VISUAL CANDY TO PLAY LIKE TEKKENZ'. This is about what I think has been a poor business decision from Sega for years in retrospect. VF wants the players to project their OWN personalities into the characters and I don't think people play fighting games (or games) in general for that. They play for escapism. Just look at how certain people always tend to end up with female characters or the taekwondo guy or the big strong guy. Just like in movies, characters need to be fleshed out with motivation and be made into interesting protaganists and while people laugh at tekken forcemode even that POS is designed around this very core.

Nice thinking there, yeah I agree, VF should have a story mode even if the characters are cheesy although except for very few such as Sarah. I'm sure a lot of us (especially SB fans such as myself) have noticed that Sarah is no longer cheesy since VF3, she is one of the few characters that is not cheesy or at least not horribly voiced like the other characters, I don't know, but I'm guessing she's the only English-speaking character that isn't cheesy or at least when compared to Vanessa, Lion, Jeffrey, Jacky, Brad, El Blaze, and any other English-speaking character that I didn't mention. Anyone agree or think differently on what I stated?

We know you don't, unfortunately the majority do. However, even if it did have a story it doesn't really mean it will fly off the shelves.
GG has an awesome story in terms of a fighting game and that doesn't really fly off the shelf either.
It needs something but I don't really know what..

We need to go back in time and make sure the Saturn and Dreamcast were successful consoles outside of Japan, if those consoles did well people would actually know what VF is!

You know I would like to see some CGI action with Virtuafighter characters interacting or doing something cool. What? You say you wouldn't? Don't most of you go nuts at every promo movie whether it's showing non game shit (Lau blocking Lei Feis kicks with kicks)or in game shit?

VF with some kind of eye candy is > vf without. What does it hurt?

I don't care why you, or anybody else HERE, plays virtua fighter. If you play virtua fighter and stick with it it's obviously not for the story in it of Jeff getting a new boat. I care about attracting new players to the series and anything that can make it more popular and make the franchise grow. With that comes character profiling. If seeing an intromovie of Akira mountaintraining or Goh having a rivalry with Akira in turn (Goh and Akira being sort of Yin and Yang) somehow even attracts a few new players to the series (or make them motivated to continue practicing to see the ending) - why the hell would you be against it? I can bet you it would do more for the casual gamers then having lion have a dog on his back while fighting or the Eiffel tower on his head.

Re: Virtua Fighter6 Character wishes

Cause some people prioritize VF feeling hardcore (in their opinion) cause it in turn makes themselves feel the same way. This feeling overruns everything, even having a bigger local scene, for some people. They (in their mind) have made a conscious choice to stand over graphics and intros etc and see the true light and JUST care about gameplay. They've never played other FG's for any period of time - they've just learned to talk shit about them. They've never learned to ETEG - they just do evade p+k online playing for themselves.

But they still feel hardc0re.

So the answer is; It hurts fucked up Ego's in a deep way even though they would just be a startbutton away from a skipped cinematic.

If you add up all the milliseconds of skipped cinematic up then that can mean some serious time my friend. I don't care if the cinematic is only seen in story mode or arcade mode. That's where most people spend their time playing VF right? Single player? I never see anyone online so it must be.

Frankly I think they should just cut the in game intros out altogether. What's with all the item bullshit too. What's Akira
a barbie doll?

I like it when the characters have intro quotes/poses, maybe that's because my favorite fighter, Sarah, is not cheesy like most of VF's cast.

You're right Sarah is kewl! Can you right some of her kewl quotes for me! I forgot how awesome they were since my favorite character; Sarah isn't cheesy like the rest of the cast!

Re: Virtua Fighter6 Character wishes

Sarah's quotes:
-Better run home to mama now (VF4;Vf5[said in a bit of a dull way or something in VF5])
-Yahoo! (says it when doing a moonsault from regular fighting stance in VF5 as opposed to a win quote in other VF games)
-Even good guys blow it (VF4)
-Hmmm? Maybe I should pull back a little? (VF4)
-Let's see how many seconds you'll last, are u ready for this? (VF5)
-You'll enjoy this, trust me, ready? (VF5)
-So you're my opponent, won't you take it easy on me (winks)(VF4)
-Come on, let's begin (winks) (VF4)
-Here I come (VF4)

Now that I think about it, a few of these quotes are a bit cheesy but are NOT said in a cheesy way like all the other characters or at least most of them have both cheesy lines and voice acting.

I'd need like ten hands to count the amount of sexual innuendos there, seriously i'm suprised they don't just have her covered ass to lips in cheese.

So I guess all the wanking winking makes it less cheesy?

it always seems strange to me when someone says they wish the ability to edit character outfits would be removed, considering this is a part of the game you can simply choose to forego if you wish.

It seems to make about as much sense as: i hate spaghetti, i wish nobody served pasta on a menu where i can order whatever i want.

i didn't specifically mean you. I kinda thought your comments were sarcasm. I just remember in previous threads there was someone who was hating on character edit, but don't remember who it was.

No need for them to remove content. I like intros and win quotes.
