I knew that no matter what my posts would come across a certain way. Unfortunately that is the way of words over the internet. To clarify, I was never looking for props. But you're right, it kind of was a "last man on earth" situation.

If I understood you correctly, I don't agree with what you said about playing people from a far off land. It was definitely a show of strength or skill in the fact that the people I promoted from were very, very good. My connection with Japan isn't that bad either, in fact sometimes it's barely noticeable.

Never once have I ever cared about my rank because of its title or status, it was always merely a goal to me. Goals in any video game is always what has driven me to do well and succeed.

@EMX - you're right that it isn't necessarily a knock on someone if they have to ask, but I guess the point he was trying to seek was attained for him, which was that he was trying to understand people's true knowledge of the game, at least in his eyes anyway.

Listen man. I'm not upset at you, or even trying to make you get upset, nor trying to disrespect you anything. It's pretty civil, and there aren't any name calling between us in this discussion.

Every post you've been making, you establish a point and then someone will post telling you exactly what it looks like, different from your point of view, or will refute the point. And then you basically go on to say in response, that it doesn't look that way to you, and that's it.

You do realize that connections are also asymmetrical, right?

How can you go on to say you never cared about your rank because of the title or status, and then go far as to downplay the concept of a goal saying it's merely just? The title and status comes with the whole package, and with that, you get people playing the way you describe all the time, because of all of these things.

What would be the difference between player matches and ranked matches then? The goal is still present, except the titles and status aren't attached to it.

If it's because you want people play as hard as they possibly can, then there should be no reason to have a preference on what opponents you face, or what character they're using regardless of if you feel it's their main or not.

Air Jacky just standing there doing his fights, just perpetuates the assumptions that you both have shown to have, about the effort someone would put in a player match, anyway.

People can still go hard in both player and ranked matches. People can go hard using things they don't normally win with either, meaning people can play as hard as they can and still experiment. You're supposed to experiment with effort anyway, that's how you grow and find new things, not just in video games. I'm the type of player that experiments NONSTOP. My experiments could be reducing my play down from 100 too, but whatever it's topped out at even if it's 50%, you're getting all of it. Maybe I want to know the specifics and ins and outs of one move, offensively and defensively... then I'll just use that one move whether it's ranked or player. Sometimes throwing your hands in the fire with some shit you know nothing about is a good way to know something about it, like picking some character you never use.

I'll be the first to admit that there are plenty of times where I'm not at my best when playing. A lot of it has to do with my own personal issues that I suffer from, and I can't keep my head in the game(I even apologize to people when I'm rusty or playing bad). Other times I could just be experimenting. A few years ago, I had a terrible ego a big part of that is because I thought for years that's how fighting game communities did things. I've long since dropped my ego a long time ago.

Somebody can have 70% in the tank and give all of that 70%, and that would be their best at the time, even if you've seen their 100% before. Player or ranked matches shouldn't have someone only going 50 out of their 70 or something less than 100 when their 100 is available. Maybe that's what you and Air Jacky do, and if that's the case, then that's a problem. I hope that isn't the case for you, but Air Jacky already admitted to doing so.

Re: What Have You Learned? / How Have You Progress

I definitely ALWAYS give my all with anyone I play, always! And yes, people will always have different views and opinions, and we all have right to have them, and we all feel they are justified. Is it unreasonable or unbelievable that people don't always understand exactly what someone means? And yes, if people are trying to say it looks a certain way to them but it's not at all the fact of the matter or the point at hand, why wouldn't I refute it? If I seem adamant in my refutes it's because I'm an extremely fair person, never mean disrespect, and won't allow people to suggest otherwise or say something it's not. Nevertheless people have their opinions and I can't change that, but I definitely will stick up for what I say and what I believe and what I know is true.

I really still don't understand at all what you're trying to say about rank, title, status, downplay, goal, etc. So I'll leave it at this - I LOVE RANK MATCHES! I DON'T HIDE! I DON'T MAKE EXCUSES! I LOVE THIS GAME! Oh and did I mention, I LOVE THIS GAME! And I think 99% of people will attest to this on VFDC.

Still with respect, and toward you also, Slide,

I could ask you these same questions, but other than that though, I mean, if you're actually playing the game and love to play it, then there's no reason for either one of us to be arguing really.

The big reason I came in here was cause, Air Jacky's statements, and I felt like you were backing his perspective. It just didn't seem right, and I had nothing better to do, so I went on some lengthy posts trying to figure out if your stance was similar or different than his.

    Take care

I should have clarified better. I wasn't necessarily backing him, but thought it was interesting enough to post. Maybe I shouldn't have said anything at all because I didn't want to offend anyone. The VFDC (or VF) community is so small that we need to take care of each other.

LIES!!!! There were many legit SS players on DOA4 and I was one of them. The rank wasn't a joke because of cheating it became a joke after the major update Tecmo did where after patching the game they gave players the option to reset all their stats back to zero and start over. Many players did it thinking that they could get it back now that they knew the game even better than when everyone started. Unfortunately for many it didn't work out so well. Since many more players also knew the game as well achieving SS seems damn near impossible except for a few elite players. Just maintaining an S rank was very hard due to how the point scaling worked if you lost versus the little you get from winning.

So since getting back SS ranking became sure a daunting task, players developed gimmicks such as the private room thing you spoke of to boost there score and then eventually someone figured out that major cheat to gain practically infinite amount of points.

A dunce item for achieving pull rating of 10% or 20% in your matches would be awesome.

    On topic btw
I know I haven't progressed at all, and have regressed a lot.

Eh, well either way the system was broken. I started playing DOA4 about a year after it came out, and by that time it already seemed like the odds were stacked. I was able to maintain a rank on the high end of S, but I was never able to push it over the top.

Re: What Have You Learned? / How Have You Progress

^Meh, whatever Kobster, its cool. Can't please or make everyone laugh eh? [IMG] No big deal.

Something i've learned so far from playing fighting games again. Is you gotta give most people time to develop. Let them learn how they learn and at their pace. You can't expect someone that's starting out give you good battles if you've been playing for 2,5,10+ years. And wonder why they aren't learning quick enough/why they can't hang with you. Or why they're doing this instead of that. Decisions have to be made quick in this. (unless you play someone that just waits for you to come in all the time, turtles I believe they're called)

Lots of times fluffed inputs come out. Maybe they did throw escape but just didn't hold the direction long enough (that happens to me a lot). Maybe they did try to evade but they accidently hit a diagnol on the way back to neutral so the evade didn't come out. That one right there has been kickin my ass ever since I came back from that 8 month window of VF I missed moving back to MN. Since after that, I can't evade down for shit. And I get hit by lots of shit I should be dodgin. Lots of times I accidently jab instead of single palm too.

Me personally, I mostly learn by just playing over and over vs studying or going over things with somebody/talking. I'm not saying I can't learn by or wouldn't try studying and labbing. I just prefer the simple playing method. I feel I made it over a hill this last week or so too. Diggin it.

Another thing i've learned is that Online has created some shit talking and nose high up in the air monstazz lol. I don't exactly know if it's always been like that (sure it has). Hek, I never even used computers hardly at all till 2007. Only reason for that was EA Skate (Even some of them fools were off the meter. Was pretty unreal). Shoot even back in 93-94', I caught myself saying some dumbass shit in them tourny videos. I'm suprised no one whooped my ass, shit I wanted to whoop my ass hahah. Probably cause I was so little/only 12. But online, I wasn't ready at all for what I was walking into.

But man, just the level of arseholeness is high. But at the same time, no one is obligated to say jack to anyone. Which is fine to me. I'm not much of a talker in person myself. And I guess no consequence for actions helps a 90% of it too. (I say 90 cause i'm sure 10% of them will talk shit right to you in person AND be ready to box lol.) But back at arcades, unless you was pissed off, it was mostly laughs, people switching off rounds n stuf. If someone that sucked kept playing you, cool! Makes the 50cents last a lot longer. If dude played a wierd style, whatever, try and beat it. I never seen a cat walk away from a machine cause he didn't like how the other guy was playing.

But that was at MY local arcade. Wasn't very big as far as regular players. Plus I don't remember a whole lot from then. Not even matches. But some. Like when I got 2nd place in Samurai Showdown, and was hella pissed that I didn't win shit. Not even some fuckin tokens lol. Plus some other moments.

I'll admit though. I don't like playing turtles too much. But I do simply to try and learn from it. I can only take so much of it though. But i'll drop a 15-20min. sesh with a turtle. But oh my turtleness, they seem to be everywhere! I don't know if it's a USA fighting game thing or what. After seeing that Jwong vs Daigo thing in that 3rd Strike Evo Moment. Could be. That fool was turtling so much, Daigo just stopped moving like he took his hands off the stick. A couple times.

Guess the object is to hit and not get hit. But man, lots of times I feel in VF and HDR, if I didn't put on pressure/move foward, there wouldn't even be a fight going on. Unless, the other dude is better than you. Then he'll move foward.

    TL;DR
People learn at different speeds. Can't do something for 2,5,10+ years and expect all others to be at your level quickly. Lots of madness over internets, I don't like turtles but will rock whicha for 15-20min. But seems to be a bunch of em.

I agree that turtle style is pretty lame. Crouching backdash is very useful, but when a player is poke poke 44 11 44 11 poke poke it is very tedious. And then you end up getting recruited to their alternative lifestyle because if you don't also start doing the bicurious turtling matador routine, you become a sitting duck while they are always out range of your attacks because of 44114411. What I don't understand is what kind of sense of accomplishment one gets from winning largely by having the bigger commitment to making the opponent whiff by running away.

Re: What Have You Learned? / How Have You Progress

I have reconsidered here is my new position:

I disagree that turtle style is pretty lame. Crouching backdash is very useful, but only when a player is poke poke 44 11 44 11 poke poke is it truly awesome. And then you are forced to rise to an equal level of manliness because if you don't also start doing the super tough turtling matador routine, you become a sitting duck while they are always out range of your attacks because of 44114411. What I don't understand is what kind of sense of accomplishment one gets from winning largely by just walking up to someone and beating their ass rather than prancing far far away. Turtle runaway is da truth and is only rivaled by the awesomeness of runaway-> spam/dmpk.

    VF5 is muy perfecto.
