Look man. No skateboarding game captured the realism and fun in skateboarding better than skate.

So when I played the Skate 2 demo, the only con I found was that it was running at 60FPS (running at 30FPS like its predecessor would've given the game a grittier fell, considering it's darker storyline). I was pretty lucky finding one at Play.com going for £17.

    agreed,
I heard FEAR2 was boring and not scary and dead space is DEFINITELY a good game.

RENT DEAD SPACE THOUGH! it doesn't have that much replay value IMO. I ended up selling mind after 1 playthrough (But it was a fun playthrough :D)

Oh, great, now you reminded me of the terrible music of Crush 40 and Zebrahead. I'm going to slit my wrist now! [IMG] It's gotten to the point the only new good "old" Sega games are fan made. Looking forward to Sonic 2 HD. And might have a look at BR, KOF and BB as soon as I can get it. But still [IMG]

Hmmm, Dead space the only scary parts are just your usual ugly thing coming out of nowhere moments. The story line is also poop and doesn't contribute to anything, so yeah only scary thing is that some of the enemies look ugly.

FEAR 2 on the other hand is scary for all the right reasons, not just ugly things jumping out of nowhere.

Both good games though, if you want a good game could go with any of them. If you do actually want something scary then go with FEAR 2.

Dead Space is worth a rental. And that's it.

I've had the game sitting on my shelf for months after running through it the first time. Perhaps if the Wii version gets good reviews I'll give original Dead Space another run through, just to immerse myself in the game's universe, for familiarity.

Meanwhile a game like Oblivion, I'm 95 hours into the game, and have yet to even start the main quest. Amazing. If you have played Fallout 3 pick up Oblivion Game of the Year Edition. It's easily ten times as large as Fallout 3 and the leveling system is incredibly intelligent. You only level up what skills you use. You don't just kill a bunch of enemies then put points into 'gun' or 'lock pick'.

@InstantOverhead - I'm also almost 100 hours into the game and I have yet to start the main quest [IMG] The game is huuuuuuuge, and let's be honest. Travelling to the island (expansion), the whole "butterfly effect" (you know what I'm talking about) is THE MOST BEAUTIFUL thing I've ever seen in an RPG game.
Of course, the game has some issues but such a great experience that Oblivion surely is.

Dude, I disagree with you on the leveling in Oblivion. I think it could be a lot better. The game keeps compensating for your leveling by making the enemies higher level, so the challenge is always about the same. It hinders the feeling of your character getting better. Believe me, I'm a huge Elder Scrolls fan and have been playing since Arena (the first game on CPU) but that aspect of the leveling bugs me. If a part of the game gets too hard you can just slide the difficulty down and get around it, you don't have to play through it.

In a game like Star Ocean (also a good RPG for anyone who is looking), if you go back to an older area, you'll be killing the enemies in one hit. That lets you feel like you've gained power. There's a lot of content in Star Ocean as well, including some levels, bosses and items you can only get after beating the main quest... I definitely enjoyed the game.

I was talking about how you level. Skills level as you use them. There isn't a ridiculous points system like Fallout 3 where you kill a bunch of enemies and then somehow you gain 20 points in Science and Repair...

But leveling monsters makes sense. As you progress in the game so do the monsters. It's more realistic to have the environments and monsters change in an RPG than to remain static. What sense does it make to have enemies remain the same difficulty after having the same 90 hours of battle experience that you have? They learn just as you do. And it goes beyond monster difficulty as well.

Take the Thieves Guild or any quests that requires heavy lock picking. If you do those quests at a lower level than you need to really have good lock picking skills, tons of lock picks, or great alteration magic. But if you are level 14 or above you can get the skeleton key and any quests or areas requiring locks to be picked can be done automatically.

And not all monsters in Oblivion level nearly as much as you, the main character, do. Rats and crabs can always be killed easily by mid and high level characters. And lastly Bethesda made the difficulty slider for combat in the options menu just in case monsters surpass you in terms of combat experience. So if you level up only illusion magic and speechcraft and find yourself getting your ass kicked by trolls and bandits them you just lower the difficulty slide to a lower setting and the game will adjust itself (combat wise) to your character.

I always hated Final Fantasy style games where you could just kill low to mid level monsters over and over until you were level 99 and then beat the final boss easily. Also FF is guilty of the Zodiac Spear type weapons where you hunt for the 'best' armor or weapons to dominate the final boss with.

In Oblivion many of the 'big' weapons or armor are leveled as well. So if you pick up a 'big' quest item at a low level the benefits are very low. But if you wait until you are level 25 you might get a top notch weapon for a high level character.

Hmmm, you can't constantly fight weak enemies in FF games to get to Level 99, even if you could it would turn an 80 hour game into an 800 hour game.

Also you don't need to be high level or have decent equipment to get to the end of the game, most FF games can be beat easily without surpassing Lv 50. The only bosses you'll need high levels and good equipment for are bosses that are part of side quests, be pretty stupid to be able to level up that high for no reason afterall.

DV, that's part of my point. Once we have 3rd and 4th generation AI you might not be able to tell online if you're playing one. And would you care if the experience was good enough.

For example, don't you bump into a lot of players online that you don't know? When you loose or win against people online that you don't know, how would that experience be any different from winning or loosing against an advanced AI? Especially if the advanced AI could do simple text messaging. Especially if the AI stuck to the normal online abbreviations. Obviously if you had a head set, or web Cam, it would be a little harder to fool you but even that could be done.

Remember VF4 had that simpleton AI that you could train? What if I trained mine to do everything I would do in the same situation and then I sent my AI online to play others. If you were used to playing me, then you would be fooled by my personally trained AI [IMG]

I know, the implication is very sad but true. At some point in the near future we will be playing against AIs online, especially as some company tries to gain a foothold in an industry.

Imagine you publish first person shooters, you put out a new online shooter, problem is everybody is playing modern warfare, or metal gear, or socom. The person that buys your game logs on but noone is ever playing it, you loose sales. Companies don't want this so they're going to supply an artificial online competition. (Dude, its right around the corner)
