Well Leo doesnt have stances where she can stay in, unlike characters like Lei Fei; and Akira does have stuff like [1][P]+[K]+[G] (which reminds me of Leo [6]+4 stance etc).

That said I dont know anything about Bajiquan/Hakkyokuken..

Akita looks like he hits way harder than Leo. AM2 captured the explosiveness of Baji, Tekken doesn't capture the force of the style nearly as well. Honestly, Akira is one of the most bad ass fighting game characters there is. He's got an intimidation factor unlike any other character in any other game.

Akira literally has a mistique unlike any other character because he's notoriously difficult to use, but deadly in the right hands.

I've always like Akira because it sounds like he's got a sawed off shotgun hidden in his sleeves that he fires when he punches. Seriously, all his attacks sound like cannon fire. Which is why I'll probably be playing Jean when FS comes out because he's the same way.

I actually bought my first stick after trying to play Akira on a pad when vanilla first came out for 360. I'm glad he's got some tough inputs cause I probably wouldn't have discovered the beauty of sticks if he didn't.

After my 2nd or 3rd Hori EX2, I got myself a SFIV TE stick (bought a second one later) which I believe to be the best stick money can buy.

This is pretty much why I picked up Akira. Aggressive, powerful, difficult to use. No other character I can think of, other than Magneto in Marvel 2, comes close to having that much clout, and everybody plays Magneto, and few play Akira.

That's because those sfx are literally called "Gun". Your observation is actually fact. It dates all the way back to VF1.

I'm really surprised by the lack of Jean mentions in this topic, so far. He's unquestionably the dude I'm looking forward to rocking when I'm finally able to next week. All of his stuff looks so visceral, it's awesome.

Traditionally, I've been a big Lei fan and I also love Goh, but I'm much better with Lei than I have been able to get with Goh. Regardless, Jean's style looks like he was made for me and it's been so hard to wait to be able to give him a shot...next week can't come fast enough.

I'm so gonna enjoy getting back into VF with learning a completely new character from the ground up...espcially one I can turn into my best impersonation of John Lawrence. Strike First. Strike Hard. No Mercy. Cobra Kai, never dies! lol

    (1) If we're discussing IRL, then there is no such thing as "Ninjitsu." The term is a misnomer. You might as well have "Viking style."

    (2) I took a look at Leo in Tekken. WTF... it's Rock Howard?! Wow, Namco how blatant can you get? And yes, Akira is friggin' scary with those explosion sounds. If Sega added a "screen shake" it would be even better lmao. It's like this man could punch Superman and make him feel it.

If there's a DOA-version Aoi in VF, I'd totally use her LOL. I like reversal-happy characters, but Aoi is just too difficult to get into. And to time her reversals online... forget it.

In Samurai Shodown, I use Yagyu Jubei (reversal). In CvSNK, I use Geese Howard (reversal). Not that reversals got me victories... but it's such a rush when I predict correctly.

I'm not saying ppl who teach/practice "ninjitsu" can't fight. I'm saying historically there's no such thing in terms of a centralized martial arts discipline. Ninjas are basically spies and assassins. They learn whatever gets the job done, and most of their useful knowledge is not unarmed combat. That's just Hollywood perception.

You can see "modern ninjitsu" as Asian krav maga, if the teacher is anywhere near serious. Just a collection of "real world" martial arts techniques that kills.

I think they did a good job of bringing the moves you see in enter the dragon znd chinese connection etc to the game. It would be better if he made the bruce style yips and growls though. As far as being like real JKD...well, that's just whatever works, no?

Sort of, though there are certain techniques, stances, and combat theories that define Jeet Kune Do. You got its basic “on guard†position, the straight lead, keeping the fist vertical when punching, the specific way kicks are thrown with it (no chambering of the leg, stepping into the kick and quickly stepping right back into the guard, etc), using your attacks to intercept the other person’s attack. If you find someone claiming to use JKD, but they aren’t following these basic guidelines, then you know they’re lying, and are trying to use that “everything goes†line to justify their con game. But Jeet Kune Do was never meant to be a catch all for any martial arts technique that you feel like using.

Speaking of lying in martial arts, I have to back up Mlai here. There really is no such thing as a ninja today (as far as the job description is concerned), and most of the people claiming to teach Ninjutsu are fakes who are just pushing off Karate, Jujitsu, or some mix of the two and maybe some other stuff plus weapons on you. I don’t really want to go into all the stuff about how Ninjutsu is really more about espionage and information gathering than actually fighting people (the Japanese already had top fighters for their battles and wars… they were called Samurai.), how many people in the past who are considered ninja actually came from Samurai families, how the Koga line doesn’t even exist anymore, so anyone who tells you they have Koga training is lying, or how Japan’s own martial arts circles don’t really recognize Ninjutsu as an official style. All I will say is this: ask whoever is teaching it what their lineage is, and see how far it can actually be traced back to real people who can be verified to have taught the skills and are tied to so called Ninjutsu Ryu. If that can’t be done, and/or if they talk about some secret master that no one knows about, they’re lying. End of story.

    Anyway…

As far as characters in the game who’s styles I like but I’m intimidated with picking them up… I'd have to put Akira at the top of the list. He’s always been a character I admired, ever since the first VF. For one thing, he practices Bajiquan, one of the coolest kung fu styles out there. For another, he’s one of those difficult to master, but so satisfying to win with characters, and I’ve always like characters like that. That’s part of the reason why I picked up Lei Fei. I just can’t seem to get the hang of Akira’s button inputs. But I’m going to pick him up sooner or later.

I also want to get good with Shun Di… his drunken style was always fun to see in action, and his antics get more and more hilarious with every game. I just never could seem to fully get the hang of him and his crazy mix ups, at least in the earlier games. But now that I’m getting the hang of Lei, maybe I have a chance, since both characters have to mix things up. It’s just that Shun is pretty much all about mixing things up, and the drinking aspects add another layer of complexity.

Eileen is another character who looks like a lot of fun to use, but hard to truly master, at least to me. She’s just got so many options to chose from, so getting them all straight is going to take me a while I think.

And I can't forget Vanessa. Ever since she first showed up I loved her style. It's just knowing which stance to move into that gave me a problem when I first tried to use her.

There are other characters who’s styles I like but I’m not intimidated by their supposed learning curves. Lau and Pai are two that I would like to at least get decent with, especially Lau, since I used to use him in VF2. Goh has always amused me… his Judo is just so brutal to watch. I do have to admit that I did like the way he performed it in VF4 a little more than he does here, but it still looks great. And then there’s Jacky, the guy who is just a damn good fighter. I’d like to pick him up simply because, well, who doesn’t know how to use him, at least a little bit?

Of course, that’s a lot of characters to try to learn, so I doubt I’ll ever get to be good with all of them. That’s the thing about this game though… just about everyone’s style looks good, so you end up at least wanting to try them all.

Goh's actual 'styleeeee' is sick. However, speaking from point of view of what characters appeal to me, it'd be Akira but I know I could never pull off half his moves in a real situation.

Goh had made me want to learn Judo. Obviously I wouldn't expect to walk out fighting like he does, but Goh has made me appreciate the power of Judo.

I like how they made Goh's style more vicious. I bet he slaps some coke on his noodle before a fight

VF is one of the few games where I want to master (or play) ALL characters. Very recognizable fighting styles.

    my list:

    1. Akira - just pure grace and power
    2. Akira - just to show you how i like this guy. i have no other second
    3. Goh - the thug appearance and lethal Judo moves
    4. Brad - cool to watch and the whiffing sound is just insane
    5. Kage - when he flips and does his combos it's a delight to watch

I play Jean because I do kyokushin karate so I recognize the combos.

Lei Fei. To me Lei fei is the ultimate expression of improvisation. They can nerd him all they want, lei will always be "top tier" quality in the hands of a mix up artist. Oh yea.....and he can dance!
