See the problem with you people is you are just now playing FMM after playing VF4 and VF5. Any game will suck after that, by comparison. For somebody who was in teenage years back when FMM came out and imported FV1, FMM was awesome! Unbalanced as hell, but still a great game and very fun. Of course it doesnt have the depth and sophistication of VF5 and the lack of an evade system is a glaring deficiency, but back then it was great, because we did hadn't experience the glory of VF4 yet. The thing was you had to like Fighting Vipers in order to like FMM. It brought back Siba! The character who's omission Daichi Katagiri was complaining about in his Dev interview.

I know FMM was imbalanced, but that imbalance gave my friends who weren't as good at Vf as me a fighting chance. All that extra armor and weapons evened the odds a bit. Like I said you had to live in that time to appreciate FMM. At that Time, SEGA was in a will "they or wont they " stand still about releasing Virtua Fighter 3 on the Saturn. There were rumors of an upgrade cartridge for saturn to handle the graphics. While all us VF fans were in a similar position of you guys waiting for word on a VF5 R port, SEGA gave us FMM to tide us over. It had a near complete VF3 Movelist granted to all the VF Characters . That, my friends was the major selling point of FMM. since you all have Vf5 tinted glasses, you cant see that FMM was basically VF2.5 ,while we waited for the eventual bad news that VF3 was cancelled for saturn. AOI was actually in FMM. Janet from Virtua Cop had her almost her complete movelist, so essentially Janet was Aoi with a gun (of which she could fire three shots at her opponents for decent damage).

no. I played it when it was released on the saturn and as an import. People rightly complain about the mechanics of FMM because they blow pretty badly. floats, hits, gravity ... all very bleah. it took all the badness of FV and said, what if we made it worse? and then they did.

The game was fun only because of Hyper mode and the VF3 moveset (which were ass because they were glued over the awful FMM system) we, otherwise, chose to play VF2 and wait for OB in the arcades.

FMM was not VF2.5. at all. as in 'no way'.

I played FMM back on saturn in the days when I knew next to nothing about the series other than it was fun. I didn't actually buy FMM though, Blockbuster rental only. I stuck with VF2 and my SF games for the most part.

I could go back and play FMM and have fun with it today, but I'd still prefer to get my hands on the new hotness instead.

I really wish I knew about hyperfighting mode, or what it did. Sounds like it was pretty fun.

Oh my god. The fact that All the VF characters had their VF3 moves doesn't affect that assumption? "no" way? Only in the ways that normal people measure by, you know, movelists and all. I will say this for Fighting Vipers, and in turn FMM: the characters had air recoveries, by hitting P+K+G. As opposed to Vf where you can get juggled across and out of the ring by a mere anemic standing jab. Whatever.

For me, FMM wasn't as good as VF2 or even Vipers. The idea was a nice one, and it was a fun game, but it wasn't as good as the two games it brought together.

And I was saying that before I even played VF3, so this is before 4, let alone 5 came out.

And if I remember right, Hyper Mode just allowed you to string attacks together ridiculously. I can't remmeber if it was as good as Hyper Action Battle in Evo, but it was fun.

The music in FMM was one of the best as well. Interesting side note. The ending theme for the Boss battles (Path E?) was later used in Shenmue as the Shenhua theme.

I like how could choose which engine you used (VF or FV) and all the cool extras in it, like Siba, Hornet, even the stupid Sonic Fighters, lol. Rent-A-Hero was dirty with his projectile as well!

see, your assumption (I'll leave you to bold the relevant section of that word) was that everyone that doesn't like it was coming from a bias of the later works when, in fact, most reasoning folk could tell it wasn't good without travelling into the future and then back again. we knew intuitively it was a time waster and little more.

    but, you know, whatever.

FMM was a bad competitive fighting game.

But it was fun fan service. I liked the idea, I liked that they made it even, and I have fond memories.

But objectively speaking, it was not a good competitive fighter.

Even back then, glossy-eyed as I was, I kept on playing VF2 until I stopped playing my Saturn. And without hesitation I would tell you that VF2, VF Kids, Fighting Vipers, and Last Bronx were better IMO. And I wasn't even playing VF properly yet!

I loved FMM for what it was. The Marvel "What If?" of Sega fighters [IMG]

Btw, I would also tell you FMM is way better than Toshinden [IMG]

About the topic... I love all the VF games so much and I will still play any iteration! Biggest nostalgia for me is VF3tb and VF2. But every single VF is truly special to me.

FMM had two features that I love till this day. Team battle and vs the cpu. Playing 1st to 5 rounds vs the computer was a great way to learn the game. But my fav is VF4 Evo

FMM was fun for what it was. I don't believe it was intended to be a serious competitive fighting game, just an enjoyable mash up and it succeeded in that. I'd love a sequel that used a greater range of Sega characters.

Bought a Saturn, a stick, VF1, Remix, VF2 and VF Kids last week. Fucking hate them. Option select throws FTL. I'm just so glad VF has grown far beyond those roots.

Dude, come on. That's like playing Donkey Kong and complaining that its level design is subpar to subsequent Mario games. Virtua Fighter 2 will forever be one of the greats. If not for these early efforts, you'd never be able to play Final Showdown. Now, I'm sure you well understand this, but I feel that you sound terribly unappreciative of how progress typically works. I do suppose it's a little harder to appreciate without nostalgia backing up your feelings on the matter.

As Akai has said a number of times, everyone starts somewhere, y'know?

I love vf2, however it hasnt aged well when it comes to character move list. Atleast in my opinion. Is way limited compare to the other, but i still love the game.

Vf3 in my opinion, has aged beautifully my fav vf by far

I actually think that vf1 graphics have aged well too, yeah i know, they look blocky as hell and really laughable But the game (atleast the arcade version) still looks really colorful. It almost looks shell shaded which i love. It was way ahead of its time. Buts that just my opinion

VF4 EVO was just plain crap... Just kidding, it was good, but not as good as vf3. The music wasnt as epic as 1, 2 or 3 but i loved the quest mode.

The only VF that just sucks ******* is the Genesis version of VF2, dang was that awful

Please no hate, is just my opinion.

You really can't knock VF2 or VF4 cos there were the most commercially successful Virtua Fighter games that definitely got over with majority of video game players and the consumers market in general when they came out in their respective eras.

VF2 was for example was massively popular during its time and enjoyed a successful run in arcades, looked like a massive leap from the first game and had tons of moves for the characters. looking at it now yeah its dated somewhat agreed but i've have way too many fond memories to ever insult that game at all. While VF3 was also good but felt like it was a step back in terms of interest outside of the fanbase. VF4 to me, took things forward again hugely, and also made the combat system of the game way more indepth than it had ever previously been (some would argue VF was at its absolute peak with the 3 VF4 games releases) so i'd have to say despite the fondness for VF2 and VF3 tag battle, VF4 is still the title thats most playable today should i ever feel the need once in a blue moon and decide to start replaying it again.

VF5 vanilla while a great game we've all seen for some bizarre reason fall by the wayside (in terms of popularity and success) and wasn't the juggernaut it should've been in the fighting game community'. In time, we'll see if the first VF5 is ultimately replayable next to Final Showdown however, and looked back on as a great game to pick up once more.
