Why don't people use Akira's counters more in VF5?

I've found his counters to ROCK on wakeup kicks...

Since few people have 'weird' wakeups like a headbutt and shtuff, his counters are more useful than his Sabaki. [he has a low sabaki? I forgot]

That and being countered is quite demoralizing, especially if your foe does it to the point where you can't hit them and that puts you in position to spam throws. [which your counter happy foe may fight back using attacks at last]

but nobody alive can read perfectly so /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

It basically comes down to risk vs reward. In vf2, if you botched a reversal, either a low on high punch came out which would protect you from a throw or an attack. Low damage but very safe. In vf3 and on, lets say you try to reverse jefferys low punch and he does a splash mountain or a knee instead. Since there is whiff animation now, jeff does a throw or a knee, you get hit by both which will probably take off close to half life.

Wasn't the damage of reversals much higher in VF2? Like 50 and, yeah, no tech roll...
