Because I believe the Wii stands for the type of casual gamers that I do not respect. When my friend is trying to tell me how good Wii golf is and that it's better than SFIV or VF5, I know something is wrong.

The Wii is trash for fake gamers. That's my opinion. If hardcore gamers have a downfall, it will be causally related Wii in one way or another.

I only know one person who bought the Wii and used it for longer than 3 months... A large portion of Wii's out there are sitting unused, collecting dust.

    Wii Golf... WTF???

And I'm afraid of this too:

I think that would be truly BACKWARDS. We are the ones that have been here all along and still will be when the Wii players move on to Tiddly-Winks or whatever the next "casual gaming" fad is...

Hardcore gamers are the long-term players. Some people have bought Wii and that's the only system they ever bought because it is a fad. They don't even use it anymore and will never buy another system or game again. That's just NOT the customer base devels. should be aiming at...

The one reason the Wii will never be taken seriously by the hardcore community of this generation is that the Wii is not nearly as powerful as the PS3 and 360. Any hardcore game this generation on the PS3 and 360 needs to be toned down graphically, aurally, and in overall size as you can't install games on the Wii.

Street Fighter IV, Resident Evil 5, Dante's Inferno, Unreal Tournament III, HL Orange Box, etc.

Even the AAA exclusives like Metal Gear Solid 4, Gears of War 2, Killzone 2, Resistance 2, etc. blow Super Mario Galaxy or Zelda away when it comes to pleasing the hardcore crowd.

Most of the top AAA titles coming out multi-platform are games that the Wii just simply cannot handle. Take a look at Dead Space. In order to move the Dead Space IP onto the Wii they had to develop a completely new game, a rail based shooter, they couldn't even figure out a way to port the game to the Wii and have it be comparable to the PS3/360/PC version.

The Wii is a gimmick. Mine collects dust and is serving as a coaster for my cereal bowl right now.

Does it really matter if the Wii is a fad? Are we forgetting here that out of the 3 console out ATM, 2 of them are aimed both the casual and hardcore?

I keep seeing people mentioning GoW, killzone and resistance.

These games are about as casual as it gets, stop trying to make me lol please.

So you own a Wii, huh Cuz?

Sorry, it's just NOT my thing. I'm looking for a much more cerebral experience than the Wii has to offer. Point blank.

A lot of the games I play, I'm still strategizing even when my console is off. Like VF5 or SFIV or Civ Rev... Just thinking about strategies and more advanced ways to play the games I enjoy...

I don't own a Wii. I probably will buy it because my girlfriend would no doubt like playing it and some of my favourite games are the ones we play together. They might not be "cerebral", but they're fun.

But please, don't let that get in your way of proving how cool and hardcore you are. It seems to be important to you.

There's only two consoles. And a toy. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

I don't really care about proving myself as a hardcore gamer or anything of the sort. I'm just a gamer, and I don't consider most of the Wii crowd anything remotely close to that. It's just it. I see the Wii as a hi-tech toy, that's all.

Yes, Nintendo has the casual crowd on smash, but they also happen to make amazing titles under their watch. Super Mario Galaxy is a prime example of this. The level design and pacing is a thing of beauty. No game has come close to Mario Galaxy in design and originality this gen. The only game that gave me a fresh experience like Galaxy was Portal.....But guess what school they went too...The school of Nintendo, Digipen. This gen has given me a abundance of FPS and a shit load of Black and greys. Theres no "Hardcore" gamers this gen, just a bunch of fucking hipsters. Hardcore gaming die in 90's.

So kill that noise. A bunch of fools here didn't play JRPG's with a printed translated guide. Modded their Saturn to play games like Deep Fear, Giant Gram, Policenauts, SNK and Capcom games, Shmups titles, Doujin fighters like Sonic Council, Asuka 120%, Rabbit and Groove on Fight. Same with the PSone with Rakugaki Showtime, Vib Ribbion, Elemental Gearbolt, Panzer Bandit, I.Q. and Gunners Heaven to name a few. Hipsters

Some people in this discussion seem to think more graphical power = better games. Just because the Wii is weak doesn't mean it's games are destined to be "softcore".

A system doesn't make great games, developers make great games for it. Nintendo so far has been the only ones to intelligently use their systems' individuality. It's not the systems fault that developers can't get a handle around it, that's just poor design and creativity on their part.

Put the blame where it's due, the developers not the systems.

That's awfully casual, real hardcore folk didn't need any kind of guide.

Sorry Shinobi, the more you talk, the more you confuse me. Your last definition of hardcore, for me, is a definition of oldschool (of which, I'm one too). It's a load of bull to talk about old gens in such holier than thou tone and calling out on the new generation of gamers. What counts is the present, not the past, at the end of the day. (oh and printed guides are for the weak. I actually learned English just because of Phantasy Star - no guides)

Graphical prowess doesn't make a game hardcore. But are you telling me that Joe Notagamer will walk up a store, look at Killzone 2 and be like "oh I saw this on TV the other day, I think I'm gonna buy this to play with my kids on the weekend"? No, this is a competitive game, for competitive FPSers, people passionate about their hobbies as much we are. I don't play FPSs btw, but I have tried, which is why I'm using it as an example. I reckon there's a learning curve in those games, a "science" behind its mechanics. And even certain single-player experiences like God of War (and possibly Madworld) exhibit enough challenges and details in its designs that shun non-gamers away.

Now there are certain genres or games that offer more depth than others, but that's really beyond the point. Casual games are games that you will see non-gamers actually caring about, and more than that, playing it well without any trouble. You don't have to make it any more complicated than that.

I never said Mario Kart Wii, SSMB or Mario Galaxy are shit. I just refuse to acknowledge them as hardcore games. In fact, I actually want to play Mario Galaxy, just because I appreciate a good platformer every now and then (my cousin has it and lives nearby, but I'm lazy lol)

The games itself does not make it hardcore...its mostly the people who play them and how much time they are willing to put into the same game. The concept of hardcore games is a gimmick.

Back on topic, will hardcore gamers save the day? No, the gamers willing to spend money will save the day :D.

If the game has no depth there is no way you can be "hardcore" at it. That, or the wall separating hardcore from non-hardcore will be so thin that you wont be able to tell them apart.

Dudes I'm so hardcore and like being hardcore makes me so much more cool than anybody else because the games I play are just you know better than anything else.

You don't get it, I'm not arguing whether or not I'm not hardcore, that's way beyond the point (as I said, I don't even care about such 'label'). The point I'm bringing is related to the OP: Will hardcore gamers save the day? Yes, because ultimately it's the hardcore gamers that buy games. Someone brought up the Wii and casual gaming into discussion, some are trying to say the Wii is hardcore, some are implying that the only hardcore games are fighting games, one voiced that in his opinion oldschool gamers are the only hardcore and some others are trying to say hardcore games don't exist.

All I'm doing is explaining my point.
