I lived with somebody who plays the same game for about 4 years.
On the paper it sounds good. In facts that's terrible. It's repetitive and boring as hell. Brings an awfull routine. With bad habits. I was playing all my opponents the same way that I was playing my roomate.

In a few month playing with somebody else and playing online other characters (when it was still possible - nobody on the game today...)

I think it makes sense in the way that it makes sense in the game of chess. Everytime you lose, you also lose ranking points. The difference is that with higher ranked players, the point loss for a lower ranked player is small. Conversely, the point gain is small.

I think that's the way VF already does it, if I'm not mistaken. :)

Understood, but VF is pretty good about emulating, insinuating, imitating, replicating other aspects of martial arts, why pick the chess ranking paradigm when it comes to rank?

Here's a more legitimate demotion scheme

    1) you have to lose 4 consecutive matches(each lost must be against a different player) in a lower ranking group than you are and who has a lower license class than you do. You will be warned on your next match that you are in threat of a demotion. If your next match is a loss against someone in your rank or higher, you are not demoted, but remain at demotion threat status. If your next match is a win against someone in your rank or higher then the demotion threat status is removed(you are redeemed). If your next match is a win against someone lower than your rank then the demotion threat status remains (you are not redeemed). If your next match is a loss against someone in a lower rank than you regardless of their license class. You will be demoted. And in order to get your rank back: You must defeat (20 different players) in your current rank or higher than your current rank.

This demotion scheme guarantees that you can't get demoted by someone in the same or higher rank than you (no matter how many loses are involved)

This demotion scheme demonstrates that you were demoted because you lost 5 consecutive matches to 5 different ppl with lower rank than you are and during those losses you were unable to get a win against someone in your rank or a higher rank.

This demotion guards against just having a-bad-day-demotions or predatory demotions

Some players get a cheap and sick thrill out of demoting lower rank players. This demotion scheme would only allow you to be involved in the demotion of a higher ranked player.

This demotion scheme has many advantages:

    1) It would encourage more ppl to play in rank,

    2) It would enourage more ppl to take chances against higher ranked players
(it can be lonely at the top when no one wants to play you)

    3) It would discourage player from using lower ranked players as joke matches
(cause you could mess around and get demoted LOL)

    4) It would stablize rank hoping. getting rid of the "Sentinel today, Hunter tomorrow, Defender the next day.

Should these discussions be moved to another thread? It's starting to take over the original purpose of this thread...

Hey dude, you in London? I'm in south London and play regularly offline with my mate mostly at the weekend, sometimes for many hours. We would welcome another player in the mix if you can make it down to Brixton. It's great for improvement because you can play many matches and try different things and characters. Plus you can discuss during and after the matches. We are also still learning. Let me know if you are interested.:D

Well if someone retires from ranked matches at a certain rank there is nothing one can really do about that:) . I've never done any of the license challenges. Are they worth doing?

I'm a big believer in the rank challenges because not only do they teach fundamentals of the game, they present you with a lot of the tricks other players will do against you online.
Any you get a different feel if you do them on very hard versus normal and hard.

Well they do that, provided the amount of players is large and varied enough.
