Caps just refer to the number of times a player has played for their national team.

But yeah, it'd be great to see if this young German team can put on a similar display of dominance and attack against stronger opposition. I have little doubt they'll face any trouble in the remaining group stage matches.

Australias players did some panic errors in my opinion, and their positioning was not so good. Well, its a learning experience I hope and I can tell Australia did better than Finland already cause youre in the final tournament and we are not( I wonder if we ever get there)

I remember one goal where Germans were attacking with about 3 players, German forward was running down center with the ball and the Australian center defender abandons his post in front of the goal and runs to the side for some reason, the german forward just runs into this huge hole and scores. I was like what the hell. I think Australians need to learn some discipline in holding their correct positions and positioning in general, they sometimes ran to the nearest opposing player instead of positioning themselves strategically correct. Defending is all about cutting off the opponents lines to pass the ball (just watch what USA did against England)

I admit I couldnt watch the whole game though.

It's a very quiet workday in The Netherlands, I can tell you that. I'm looking across a workfloor with barely half the desks filled.

One of the commentators came up with an interesting tidbit btw. It seems England has never been all that good at beating the US.

    Aside:
You can bet your arse Gerrard, Rooney and Lampard could get work abroad if they wanted to. There's probably quite a number more but I'm not that well versed on the who's-who of football.

Vortigar, my comment still stands, the british players playing abroad are stil a minority, Beckham is the only player I can think of that played for Real Madrid. Look at Ronaldo, compare him to Gerrard, Rooney and Lampard. Why was he soo keen to move to Europe? English players dont seem so keen on it. It could be a factor why Englad never wins at international competition. Thats an idea, lets hear your opinion!

English premier league is very good place to work in, make no mistake. England's national team as a whole have a tendency to overestimate themselves regularly, which I kinda hinted with my previous post. Analysis shows that they have actually been overperforming a bit over the years..

Matteos idea may have some merit though.

as always, germany is impressive in the round robbin, but I don't think they can win this world cup, I don't remember who's got this sign on VFDC:"offense sell tickets, defense win games" but it applies perfectly to football in general and to the world cup in particular.

There's no discussion that Spain and Brazil are the great favorites for the final win, but I would bet on Argentina too which seems pretty solid.

I disagree Myke about group A. I think Uruguay and France will pass through for the same reason as above. However, I have to say that I'm not really proud of the boring style of play of France but we started the same way in 2006 and we've got some great talents who can wake up anytime soon, so who knows?

Don't bet on Argentina. Like England, they'll struggle as soon as they have to play a top side. Also, Maradonna is insane. left Zanetti and Cambiasso out of the squad, but took a player because he was in a dream he had. bonkers

Holland have a better chance of doing something special, but their star players are made of glass (Van Persie [IMG] )

I was commenting on the line: "there isnt anybody THAT good to the point that real madrid or barcelona wants them"

Maybe Real or Barcelona might hold up their noses. But there's loads of teams out there who'd pay money for a lot of the Englishmen out there.

You're absolutely right on the English leagues simply making them more money and thus not wanting to go. Also note that the English league is known as one of the toughest national competitions in the world so on that alone you should go far. I personally judge many of the Dutch internationals below the level of play of quite a number of the English purely national players.

But even then, the English have a certain style of play and despite their qualities many of your players are unfamiliar with other modes and patterns that can appear in the game. So yeah, international inexperience may be a problematic factor there.

    Also:
Wasn't Robben known as the Crystal Man in England?

    And:
Oh boy, we're under way, radio's popped up all over the place here and the network is slow as molasses.

Premier League is the best in the world,no need 4 the english stars to go to Madrid or Barca.Rooney,Gerrard and Lampard are some of the most skilled players in today's footbal.Thats not the problem of the three lions...The english team is always super nervous. They have problems to perform under pressure.Hard to say y.Its almost traditionally.Green did a good job to keep the tradition alive.

Germany has the most technically gifted team they ever had.Seems we learned from the dutch how to scout players u dont have to be afraid they injure themselves when they are in possession.

My top favourite is Spain.Good chances 4 Netherlands,Germany,Brazil,Argentina,England....U never know. Its World Cup!!!U need the luck.Netherlands and England need it most otherwise NL will lose after an amazin offensive performance and E will lose after penalty shoot-out

I definitely have enjoyed watching the games very much.

I do have a huge issue with the vuvuzellas (plastic horns to make annoying, loud noises)...

I find that CONSTANT noise in the background to be absolutely grating and annoying. That noise alone makes me hesitate to watch cause I have to basically mute the TV.

They need to ban those things QUICK. I know they're banned in Europe and this world cup needs to follow suit.

I wouldn't surprise me one bit if those stupid, cheap horns haven't hurt viewership of the games already. It's seriously that bad of a noise.

every Africa Cup and so it is at the first World Cup in Africa

You right; but as the world's host, is it not a mark of good manners to make us all feel welcome?

If we had guests over and they found our central heating was too hot for them, we'd most likely turn it down to accommodate them.

The official sponsors certainly won't be happy if the watching world are being annoyed by the that constant din; it doesn't help them sell their products.

Oh ok, thanks much, really had no idea haha.

Watching ITA Vs. PAR atm, really impressed with Paraguay's defense so far, hopefully they can maintain it and sneak a few past midfield on occasion. DOUBLE EDIT: Zomg that header was brilliant, keep it up Paraguay [IMG]

EDIT: I missed the Japan Cameroon match but watching these highlights, it looks like I missed a really fun match. I can't get over how many crossbars and posts have happened this early into the Cup.

Paraguay is a strong contender, I heard they beat both Brazil and Argentina in their qualifiers. And I heard it was no fluke.
Argentina is just waiting for the disaster, if they do well its no thanks to their coach, lol.

Vuvuzuelas are annoying, but thankfully not as annoying watching via TV compared to what they must be on the spot.

I'm not even watching this. I decided to YouTube to see what the fuss is about.

    Fuck!

I swear... vuvuzela... the word looks like vulva. So it's a vagina-horn... making one loud, cacophonus, unending, pussy fart (which is normally a wonderful noise). Thanks a lot. Vuvuzela: ruining World Cup and fucking all at the same time.

you must be kidding. I betted Japan would lose Cameroon by 0-2, but they won by 1-0.

my friends called me a traitor.

what the hell is this!?!?!?!? my guess had been more likely to happen!!!

I believe some people agree with me.
I am pretty sure Japan would lose Netherland by 0-2.

In FIFA 2006 I wanted Iran to win since that's where I'm from and they qualified, but unfortunately I don't see them in the 2010 FIFA therefore the team I wish to win is Japan! I know it's dreamlike thinking but I don't care I want them to pull upsets and beat Brazil and Germany etc. Before I get too ambitious though first things first and that's the Netherlands as Yosuke mentioned. Oh, and when it comes to last place I think that should go to Australia. [IMG]
