Mistakes on part of the players are part of footballs appeal. I dont think theres a single person who thinks that football is enjoyable when referees make errors... Except Blatter of course. I dont want to make BBC account just to comment but feel free to relay what I said.

Sepp Blatter? More like Sepp Twatter.

England deserved to go out though. The Germans were far superior, and they gave me 10gb of free download.

And I'm backing an all South American semi final round: Uruguay vs Brazil and Argentina vs Paraguay.

    Brazil
    Ghana
    Germany
    Spain

final is going to be germany vs brazil. I dont think any of the matches will see lot of goals. Some might go to penalty shootout. EDIT: well would be cool if Ghana would continue, but I dont really know uruguay and paraguay national teams.

Brazil who? It's funny that everyone had Brazil as the winner and potential world cup winner when they have been playing worse than the Netherlands over the whole tournament. Hopefully we are going to take this shit!!!!

Do you actually believe the Netherlands deserved that win over Brazil? Two goals from set pieces, with the first being extremely lucky own goal due to goal keeper error. Other than that, the Oranje were barely stringing 3 passes together for the entire match.

Ultimately, it was the culmination of the play acting by the Netherlands leading up to the red card that was Brazil's undoing. No matter how much that fucker Robben flails around due to mere suggestion of contact, Felipe Melo was stupid for stomping him when he went down. With that sending off, Brazil's chances for equalizing were severely diminished. And how Van Bommel wasn't sent off, let alone yellow carded, for deliberately fouling on multiple occasions whenever Brazil were on the counter attack completely astounds me. It's the oldest and dirtiest tactic going around, and it still angers me that FIFA allow teams to get away with this even today.

Oh well, my dream final of Brazil vs Spain won't be realised.

LOL, Brazil intentionally made those fouls because they were afraid of the dutch team. They couldn't made a good offensive attempt at all, only going for the counter. They have been playing this shitty way the whole tournament and I just don't understand why everybody is idealizing them so much. Admittedly the Dutch did give that first goal away easily by letting Robinho walk freely. As for the Robben remark, Felipe Melo made that foul, he shouldn't have done that, but he was so stupid to do it anyway. Kaka was also falling all over the place the whole match so that makes that even imo. About Van Bommel, yeah he is really sneaky with that shit, but personally I think that it is funny how he does it, almost makes an art of it.

What I don't really get though, is that people talk that Holland played dirty in this match, clearly to me Brazil was playing more dirty out of frustration and this shit has been going on the entire world cup.

Oh well, here's hoping The Netherlands is going to win it.

I actually made a bet with all my mates saying Holland would win they all chuckled at me in the pub. I really should have put some money on it..
Brazil were so lacklustre even after taking the lead. The Dutch fully deserved their victory.

How some players escaped bookings though..
Melo stamp was a red card though.. It was just as bad as Kaita's in the Nigeria vs Greece game.. even though Kaita missed.

Well Melo acted stupid by losing temper (I missed it myself but I guess it happened) and caused an own goal that started Brazils collapse. Sometimes big things are down to chance.

    WTF.

I understand it should be difficult to score a goal in soccer. I get it. But at what point do the rules of the game effect the delegitimization of a contest? Intentional handball at the goal line by the last defender like the one in Ghana's game today should be scored as a goal.

    Fucking bullshit.

sanjuro, totally agreed. Unfortunately, many rules and the policing of the rules still remain in the dark ages. I can only hope when Sepp Blatter steps down that FIFA refresh their outlook on the game and make an effort to help it catch up with the times.

Football is not supposed to be fair, it's just all about dramaturgy. That's what make it so great.

While I want Germany to win so I get more free download, I don't want them to win as it'll prove Manji right.

And I don't want Manji to be right.

    WHOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

I thought last week was crazy against England at this bar? Ten-fold this week! Oh my lord that was amazing. I really did not foresee the match going this way, I don't think ANYONE did. Even being up 1-0 you could feel the stress in the pub (95% German fans lol), Argentina spent so much time on offense and had how many shots on goal? Too stressful. I didn't feel comfortable until the final 10 minutes.

Likely to be Germany Vs. Spain, but we'll see later today!

EDIT: Also, I think that handball in the Ghana Uruguay match was brilliant. I understand why some dislike it but them's the breaks. It was an incredibly smart play given the situation and worked out in Uruguay's favor. I actually think the ruling is proper too. How else would they handle it? If it was on its way to be a goal, it should be allowed? That's too subjective. PK or die. So be it.

That said, while I think most of the rules are proper, I do think they should consider replays or contesting for certain stuff such as goals. At least for the 2014 Cup. This year's Cup was riddled by blatant off-sides and the England goal, no-goal. The Ireland handball during qualies would also make a good case for that.
