You mean Charles Xavier, AKA Professor X? In the comics throughout the years he’s been on and off his feet. Initially though he lost his legs in a cave-in, caused by a generic villain who’s name escapes me.

    I don't recall the films giving a reason why he's in a wheelchair, that or I don't remember. /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

    Spoliers:

You know, at the end I had this funny feeling that Wolverine killing Phoenix would bring everyone back to life...thats how it usually works out but this wasn't the case. I was surprised that they'd actually wax the Professor X and Cyclops, off screen even!

I just feel for the people who aren't fans of the characters because if I hadn't of been one I wouldn't have flinched when the Professor bought the farm. They really should release an extended version like they did for the first film on DVD...

You obviously didnt sit to watch the snippet at the end of the credits. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

    Spoiler;

In the beginning Xavier has this moralspeech transfer about a telepath transfering his conciousness into another body yeah? Well he does that in the end (or rather when Phoenix toasts him), to the exact same body that's in the video and hence the 'Hello Moira' (she was the nurse). Apparently putting yourself into another body changes the vocalchords in the process (I can't wait to see how they're gonna solve this one in X4 but I wouldn't be suprised if many actors jump the ship for that one so..).

So, with Magneto getting his powers back, think we will see Apocolypse in the next Xmen, or maybe even him ripping out Wolverines skeleton...there really are a ton of great stories to be told. Didn't Xavier, in the comics, eventually leave to some asterial realm to pursue his true love (forgot her name)?

personally, I really wonder if there will be a fourth movie that isn't radically different from the first three just because of cast changes. Its so hard to keep a cast that large stable and returning without them turning into demand heavy prima donnas.

Personally, I think now is the time to just concentrate on smaller cast lots and very specific stories. X4--if there is such a beast--might look comical in contrast simply by a changeover in characters.

    Argh! You can't be serious...

I saw the movie last night and went home discussing how they could depart from canon quite this far. I like the first two movies, they're not canon, no, but they don't mess about with huge stuff like #3 does either.

But I didn't see the snippet at the end... I always stick around to the end darnit! ALWAYS! And that one time I leave... Doh!

Funny thing is though we were discussing how they could bring characters back ala hollywood. And I indeed explained exactly what happened in the snippet to my friends... Talk about seeing too many of these kinds of plots.

But really, changing Marrow into a guy got my stomach in a knot... (it was supposed to be marrow rite?)

Halle Berry wanted to drop out of the series, they had to change the script to be more storm-centric (hence her becoming squad leader etc) just to keep her. The megaflop of Catwoman certainly helped as well.

Thing is they don't care about the fact that the comics themselves have great stories. Them changing phoenix into some split personality thing shows this... And in the end it all becomes a fuck up cause of this (comicbooks have better writers then hollywood directors?) - this entire story with leech (who isn't a boy in the comics) is proof of this. It's a riot that the serum would stop working when they would get to him (so they extract a million liters from him or what and he's all content there in his cave playing supermario like a retard until some random mutans start pulling at him?). If certain keycharacters plan on dropping out (for instance patrick stewart ian mckellen and maybe hugh jackman) they should bring in the Onslaught saga. I just wish they had the balls to do something more complete that isn't finished in every movie but is ongoing in a trilogy (think lotr).

/KiwE (please don't let Callisto and/or Spike be in the next movie as they made turkeystyle performances)

I think the think the thing people should consider when looking at a movie conversion of a comic book is that the end product has to satisfy more people than just the nerds on the paper end. It needs to have broad appeal or it will never make its money back. "canon" really doesn't mean much when you stick it in the context of comics anyway since their continuity is tenuous at best. The shared universe phenomenom really messes with timelines and characters. Anyone that's been collecting for a while knows this and likely just picks the areas they most enjoy and selectively ignores the other stuff. If I'm not reading the Ultimate imprint line my "canon" is rooted in the early claremont/byrne years with some Joss Whedon and Morrison thrown into the mix. Nothing else exists.

All that being my biggest concerns with the film was the idea of "broad appeal". A so-called "popcorn flick" should entertain and I'm not sure it did that. Look on Rottentomatoes and even the bulk of critics who gave it a positive spin are negative. I don't know that that's the hallmark of a "good movie".

Well, there's always the upcoming wolverine movie...which is amusing since all 3xmen movies = wolvie movie anyway.

I'd rather see X4 with apocalypse and Cable in it. Maybe a nice teaser of onslaught in action but thats dreaming. I still wanna see Gambit, he'd make for some cool martial arts scenes.

I guess the wolvie movie will do...not like we all know the story anyway. It's only been explained in every possible way already...oh wait, not a hollywood style!

I quit comics about the time when Cable got introduced. The writing and art teams were so sub par (looking at you liefeld) with few exceptions I just couldn't justify plunking down $2 (or whatevert they were worth at the time) for what I considered to be a crap comic. Gambit was huge but I never got it and when I finally got caught up with the digital underground I honestly felt I hadn't missed anything.

Apocalypse, the never ending AoA saga and all of the badly written "i'm my own grandpa" summers brothers BS was a real turn off (although I hear scott is fantastic with the Yo-Yo). Its not just a nostalgic eye either. reading back issues I dislike a fair amount of the claremont stuff but it was mostly because he started to recycle plots or forget to tie off loose ends.

Wolverine could be a good movie if they ignore the Origin stuff and go back to when he was, like, 600 years old. Any of the Miller influenced stuff would be great source material in my opinion. Really though, as long as it holds up as a story, has believable actors in it and is well directed I'll have few complaints.

But I will be waiting for Ellen Page's reprisal of Kitty Pryde.

Also on topic with this movie: Yes is was bad, but for those to think so because it didn't follow this story or that - it's a movie adaptation and therefore a should be seen as a separate entity. Godeater is right.

I didn't think it was bad becos it didn;t follow the source, I'm ok with it totally.

I think it's bad because it's just badly done, badly edited, one poor scene after another.

For example, the xavier funeral scene was laughable at best, if it was supposed to depict doom n sadness, oh lord did failed badly.

And the whole secetary of mutant affairs 'hank mcoy' going to the lab, looks at leech, 'u got a great gift'. Sure it was supposed to show Hank being grateful for the fact he can see his 'old' hand and very happy about it.

    But!

What was he doing there in the first place???
I have this strong feeling that the movie is edited to be a summer action blockbuster, aka, strip the meat...just show logan do the following :'slash, hack, kick, roar, jump, diving stab, show manbeef-ness' .It's almost like going through the character's movelist.

I love forward to the Director's cut. Hopefully, it will be as good as the DD's director's cut (which was a much better movie than the theatrical cut. Of coz, the editor that was responsible for editing the DD's theatrical cut insists his ver of the movie is better)

The only thing this movie is missing to truly be the epitome of humanity's artistic endeavours is CG Hulk, Elektra and Richard Pryor.

Man this movie was bad / dissapointing.

me n my friends gave it a 7 out of 10 once the initial funnyness of the Juggernaught line wore off. I think thats a fair score for the movie

The quote (funnier in the original parody) was near the end of the movie. What was your score before that?

Also, I think you're off base. I think you meant to say 3 out of 10. /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif
