The quote was just unexpected and just as funny as the origional, but the roflness wore off in the caride home as we were discussing the less amusing parts of the movie. I give it a 7 out of 10 because at the very least it was entertaining and some of the stuff definitely caught me off guard (eg my man Fraiser playing a good beast, scott and xavier dieing, and rogue giving in her super powers (wtf)). All those things might have been deal breakers if I were a fan of the Xmen but I enjoyed seeing the twist rather than the usual Xmen bs'ery. I HATED the pheonix saga and all its incarnations and was glad to see they didnt drag on the bs. I also agree its better than the other 2 xmen movies. FFVIIAC was better tho =)

The movie wasn't awful. I thought it was better than Mission Impossible 3, which is worse than its two predecessors. It definitely changed cannon, not as much as

    Spoilers......

<u>Superman Returns</u> will with Lois Lane's non-kryptonian son, but still has major deviations.

    End spoilers

A couple of things jumped out at me.

#1 - The thought that a pyschic / telekinetic could kill Professor X turns my stomach. Professor X > all mind users. But I understand that characters power levels have to be kept down in order to make for interesting conflicts.

By the end of the movie I figured out that Prof. X didn't die. Now that I know how he survived, I have little hope that the next movie, which will obviously be made, will be as good as it could be.

#2 - The complete rape and trivialization of Scott Summers/Cyclops character. Scott has never showed real presense or leadership throughtout the entire movie series. That is out of character. He really is the leader of the X-Men and he is a very good leader at that.

#3 - Obviously the writers made a conscious effort to stay away from the notions of magic and/or aliens. Indicated by the change in the Juggernauts origin.

#4 - Obviously the star-power became an issue in this movie. There was too much Wolverine and too much Storm, well there can never be too much Halle Berry in a movie (she is THAT fine), but you get my point.

#5 - The writers are trying too hard to put too many characters in. They are showing semi-major characters without any real plans to use them. In doing that, they mis-define them in case they want to use them in the future.

Going forward I thought that Phoenix had not been killing people but rather somehow forcing them into the Astral plane. But now that I know that Prof. X never died, I question my Astral Plane theory. It will probably be deemed to complicated to be understood by the general public. So Scott will be just lost somewhere and Jean, as the Phoenix, will simply rise from the ashes.

I don't think the series needs the star power, or rather, I don't think they need these actors. The only must-have actors are Patrick Stewart and Ian McKlellan. Before the first movie was released, my friends and I used to talk about whether the X-men story was too big to fit into a movie series. We have seen enough Wolverine, Jean, and Storm already. There are so many good X-men stories left to tell. Some of the already used characters/actors should move aside to make room for some of the lessor-used or even unused characters. Look at some of the great characters who could get more mileage.

Cyclops - has barely been used, despite being in every movie.
    Gambit - not yet seen.
    Jubilee - not seen.
    Dazzler - not seen.
    Mr. Sinister - not seen.
    Apocalypse - not seen.
Angel - barely used, despite being in the 3rd movie
    Bishop - Unseen
    Cabel - Unseen
    Psylocke - Barely used.
The list goes on and on. I could name another ten with no effort.

I don't see any reason why a good X-men movie can't be made entirely of characters that haven't been used at all. They don't have to use any character that has already been used, save for a short cameo of Cyclops or Professor X giving marching orders.

It would be wise if you applied a "spolier" heading to your Superman Returns infomation since the film hasn't been released yet...I wasn't so lucky.

I don't get why you didn't use the proper code. /versus/images/graemlins/confused.gif

    It's ["u"] ["/u"] ICYDK. (in case you didn't know) /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif

VFDC features instant code for url's, bold print, italics and underlines in a post. Not trying to be a smartass but if their isn't a built code to emphasize; people make up code like [sarcasm]. This isn't the case. I'll stop my nitpicking now. /versus/images/graemlins/indifferent.gif

Adio, that information has been public for months in all hype articles about the film. I wouldn't call that a spoiler.

We went there with 6 people, and at best one of us didn't feel like they wasted 10$.

The best parts were when the movie was over and we could laugh at it, or when Fagan yelled out "it's Stan Lee!".

Erm, he got killed by a character that eats solar systems just because she's hungry. If they toned down anyone's power levels, it was phoenix.

Nah. Lets go back to the original text, Uncanny X-men #136 (got the comic in front of me fresh from its mylar!) where Xavier thinks: "would...have lost--but I...sensed Jean...fighting her phoenix-self...helping me".

Need more? Lillandra--from the same issue--states that the threat of Phoenix may "pale Galactus to insignificance".

also in the same issue Beast says to Nightcrawler, "you were saying, fuzzy?". okay, so that doesn't prove anything but c'mon. Xavier more powerful than Jean? Sure. More powerful than an essential force in the universe? Nah.

I can't remember which issue(s), but phoenix is confirmed to be more powerful than xiaver ever will be.

She's such a threat that aliens all worry and start packing up when they hear of Jean going crazy.

I corrected that. BTW the proper code is ['un']text['/un'] I remembered that it was not ['u'] because on VFDC ['u'] is actually the code for [8]. I thought that I remembered it correctly and didn't check for mistakes.

If there are only two truths in X-Men comics they are...

    1. No one who can be attacked from on the Astral Plane can defeat Prof. X unless he allows it.
    2. Any timeline where Professor X is prematurely killed is fucked up, all-to-be-damned.
