Dr.Necro says: Some games are made for different crowds. I remember when Tekken3 was on the PS1, I ALWAYS saw it whenever I visited some girl's apartment. It was like, the official girls fighting game because they could actually pick it up and mash the buttons and the characters on screen would do stuff. Well thats something good I guess. That the game is accesible for everyone. I admit that to be really good at it you need some degree of skill. BUT c'mon I have seen what they do in tourneys because everyone here plays Tekken. They pick this absurd strategies based on wahts is unbalanced with the game. And they keep insisting on landing that. The fight ends when one of the players finally lands the absurd launcher-juggle-wall-juggle-wait for wake up-launcher-juggle-repeat. LOOOOL Whatever man!!! I think it must be fun for some folks to land those. Well, I think VF is more like some kind of sport. You really have to earn your wins and learning its logic is like some kind of science. With many many varaibles for each situation. I wont say one is better than the other. They are just two very different things. Each aspect of the game must be studied and analized and when you finally figure something out you get a very rewarding feeling of accomplishement. Tekken is just for fun. As a psychologist. I recommend Tekken for teraphy. Its like Zoloft. Its good for your self esteem!!! Learn some cheap stuff and you start winning matches!! You see? Instantly gratifying!!! No frustrating Akira command lists!! I wont deny that yes.. you can get to higher levels of competition in Tekken. But well, I still dont understand why gamers "compete" on a broken game. The moment my friends showed me ALL the cheap stuff, I was instantly drawn away from it. I said: What can I do to avoid from getting hit by all that cheap stuff? And they just stared at me and said: "Dude, this is not VF5,you just gotta be be cheaper than them." ........................Go figure. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazy.gif Well I think if you just want to have fun or satisfy your ego, go play Tekken. But if you really want a challenge. And if you're willing to endure VF's learning curve, well, you are most welcome.

/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cool.gif Remember that Dr.Necro recommends a dose of Tekken every once in a while if you start feeling recurrent depressing toughts after losing in VF.

I admit, I play Tekken just to play the kangaroo.

I see what you're saying, but it does suck that most Tekken players actually like all of that stuff...

I suppose I was just playing the wrong game for too long...

No wonder I love VF so much, it represents everything that contemporary Tekken isn't! ^_^

I just got VF5 and play it a lot with my girlfriend, but once she's lost a couple fights she starts bitching about how her Asuka Kazama would beat my Jacky... guess girls do like Tekken best.

.... are there any girls in this forum, by the way?

    Hahaha, yeah me too!!!

People always complain about the "stupid" characters in Tekken, and how they need to be removed to make the game more serious, but really...without the kangaroo I wouldn't be playing it. I mean, who doesn't enjoy beating up people with fighting animals???

    For me,

    DOA = boobs
Tekken = kangaroos and pandas and bears

it is. it's actually one of the hardest combos in the game done by Castel (owner of Tekkenzaibatsu.com!).

    I like Tekken.
I know this is blasphemy to some VF'ers but every once in a while I like to get away from the seriousness of VF and go and play with a robot or dissapearing ninja.

It's one of the few games with a huge following that does not take itself too seriously.
Tekken knows that it's broken. It doesn't deny this, if anything it seems that it's getting worst, which is sad but that's alright with me bc I don't take it seriously.
I would NEVER join a Tekken tourney but I can play it against somebody who isn't all about exploiting the game's weaknesses all day.
If you're all about having some fun and doing some crazy bear versus kangaroo or dissapearing ninja versus robot madness or some Muay Thai versus TKD (my favorite), hit me up, my gamertag is tonyfamilia and I play T5DR.
But if you play with Lily you might get banned.
I've only played 1 out of like 25 Lily players that don't just cheeze to death, it's one of the few Tekken cheezes that I can't get over, it disgusts me everytime I see a Lily player abuse her easy, hugely damaging flow-charts. Flip, flip, flip, rinse, repeat. Ridiculous. It's crap like that that makes me quit and turn VF5 on again and play the CPU or just do dojo.

Broken games are fun sometimes. Hokuto No Ken (2d fighting) has 50%+ (even 100%) combos where starter is a low jab (lol). The game system is whole bullshit where you can physically "dribble" the opponent, but fuck all that this one of the most enjoyable game I ever played. Fun, violent, quick and flashy, just to have good time.

Tekken is alright in my book!! It's possible to play at a high-level, the graphics are good, the characters/storylines are cool, and the graphics are killer.

Out of the 4 main 3D fighters (Tekken, DOA, Soul Calibur, and VF) every series has it's fans. The problem is: it is not good enough for fans of a particulaur game to say that they prefer their fighter, these fans must also explain why all other games in a particular genre are garbage. This applies not only to fighters, but other genres as well. Try going onto a COD4 forum and seeing what the fans think of Halo....then try vice-verca.

Me personally, I'm a fan of all 4 of the big fighters. For the sake of discussion, I'll list my likes/dislikes of Tekken.

Likes: The fighting system in general. If you put the time in to learning combos that take precision timing and like 15 button inputs- you deserve to do 70% damage!! And hey it's not my fault you were careless enough to get hit with my launcher. The moves themselves arent exactly the most difficult in the world, but I would definatley say that you cant do a whole lot button mashing-at least playing someone who knows what they are doing!!

STORYLINES!! With a few exceptions (kangaroos, etc) I really dig the characters storylines.

DISLIKES: I dont have a PS3, so will probably never get to play T6.

Not a big diversity in fighting styles. Even though I like the overall system, it seems like every character plays the same way. (wait for an opening and launch) Although characters move at different speeds, and their moves LOOK different, essentially you are always looking for an opening and laucnhing regardless of what character you have. This is why I think it is easier to play a bigger diversity in characters in Tekken. (I play a decent Lau in VF, but if I tried Akira, you would probably think that I am playing the game for the first time)

    Anyway, there's my two cents

    My opinion about Tekken:

-The fact that you HAVE to use certain characters to win is just stupid.

-The fact that you can keep your opponent juggled in the air indefinitely is just stupid. This means that who ever is able to get his/her opponent into the air first will always win the match. NAMCO need to fix this. They should limit the amount of time you can keep an opponent in the air, or they should limit the amount of hits you can do to an opponent who is in the air.

-The fact that there's a character cough:paul Phoenix:cough who can take all or almost all of your life bar away with one measly hit is just stupid. (Can someone say: "Overpowered.")

-The fact that so many characters are just copies of each other (Nina and Anna, Christie and Eddy, the Mishima's, Jack and Kuma/Panda) is just stupid.

-The fact that the game developers waste character slots by putting in animals to fight against (bears and kangeroos and dinosaurs) is just stupid.

-The fact that they are now turning Jin into the bad guy is just stupid.

-The fact that all you need to do to win is spam your character's 10 hit combo is just stupid.

Other than that Tekken is ok to play now and then. Though in my opinion the game is not suited for tournament play.

good players can win with everybody.

    it is limited.

    only on CH.

-The fact that so many characters are just copies of each other (Nina and Anna, Christie and Eddy, the Mishima's, Jack and Kuma/Panda) is just stupid.

that was tekken 2. nina and anna are now almost completely different. christie/eddy and kuma/panda are just costume swaps.

-The fact that the game developers waste character slots by putting in animals to fight against (bears and kangeroos and dinosaurs) is just stupid.

true. i could live without them.

-The fact that they are now turning Jin into the bad guy is just stupid.

why? it's their story. they can do what they want.

-The fact that all you need to do to win is spam your character's 10 hit combo is just stupid.

only online during massive lag. otherwise it's easy to block them.

Well in Tekken 5 I (and a bunch of other people that I have played against) can keep the opponent in the air from the moment the match begins until it is over.

Also in Tekken some characters DO have major advantages over others for no reason other than NAMCO has no idea of how to make a balanced game.

Tekken can be fun to play, but it is far from being a fair game.

  18. Jaytech

    Jaytech Well-Known Member

yeah, it can be unbalanced. especially high tier against bottom tier chars, although t:dr is pretty fair i'd say.

in juggles the maximum number of hits is 7 after a launcher (without wall). vf can come close to that with certain chars. first hit after the launcher deals 70%dmg and all followups only 50%.

I've never played Tekken: Dark Ressurrection, but I have played every Tekken game before it. With Tekken 5.0 I got really fed up with how much emphasis (spelling?) the developers put on juggling. Tekken is still a fun game though. Even if it does have a few annoying aspects.
